    they premiered on the same night

    … and in their current timeslots.

    (You know, making that point relevant.)

  • methix

    Ahh now i remember. 2.5 was lead in for mike and molly

  • Honest Alias

    People are tuning it to CBS, then turning off at PARTNERS, then tuning back into CBS. Devastating. Cancel PARTNERS pronto!

    @Alexfan

    There hasn’t any conflict between the two sides because both are having problems. Both are seeing weaker than expected help from their lead in shows, and a show that is aided by the ratings fuel of the Voice and caters to the Hunger Games/ Scifi audience.

    Will see… My experience with this type of shows, i.e. as a fan of Jericho, Flash Forward, and The Event, I still expect Revolution to falter by the middle of the year. My expectation was that it would falter after the 3 episode, but so far it has not fallen as fast as I expected.

    4.1 11.65 /3.4 9.21/ and 3.2 8.32 does show a downward trend, but a slow one at that. The loss of a million viewers this week might be a signal that it is already weakening and will eventually catch up with the demo.

    Does anyone remember what H50 lead-in was for seasons 1 and 2 , my memory is telling me it was 2.5 men but i could be wrong , All i know is mike and molly needs to be moved to another night and h50 needs a decent lead in so it can complete with the voice, Or all i see is a season of it bleeding out slowly same for castle as well. Both shows deserve better.

    Mike & Molly has always been Hawaii 5-0’s lead in. So now that Hawaii 5-o is doing poorly, put the blame to the lead in which has always performed better than Hawaii 5-0? i would understand if Mike & Molly is pulling Partners type of numbers but no Mike & Molly has always been ahead of Hawaii 5-0.
    Mike & Molly is a decent lead in, sure it’s not as strong as 2BG and HIMYM but it pulls solid numbers.

    It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Castle. This is a quality show with strong writing and a great cast. Whether or not you agree with me, the total number of viewers speaks for itself. I know it’s that magical 18-49 demo that matters to networks, so I’m not even going to argue that point. I see the 1.9. I don’t get how it can be, but I see it, so I’m not gonna touch that.

    It’s just so disheartening for me as a fan, as I imagine it is for a fan of any show, to see something like this and know it’s completely out of the show’s hands. Castle is obviously a popular show. It pulled in 12.5 million viewers w its premiere last week (that’s w the Live +3 ratings, I know)…right now we know that (without the Live +3) it had well over 10 million, more than any other scripted program last night. Its total viewer numbers (even without the Live +3) put it in the same company as Grey’s Anatomy and OUAT and pulling just ahead of Revenge.

    I cannot wrap my mind around how it is possible that a show pulling that number of viewers (to make it the third most poplar drama on ABC) isn’t faring better with the demo? How is there such an insane disparity? There is NOTHING more this show should be expected to do bc it’s drawing the viewers. I just don’t get it and it’s very frustrating.

    If the number of viewers was seriously dwindling I could understand and even accept these demo numbers. However, the facts being what they are and Castle having such a consistently large fan base on par with ratings juggernauts like Grey’s, OUAT, and Revenge makes this business really hard to swallow.

    after looking at these numbers they are great H50 beat castle, and we are going t beat revolution too. people are going to ge tired of watching the same thing over and over again, running from the law or hiding from the law
    Hawaii 5-0 has the best cast on tv.

    That many people watched the Bears game in Chicago that The CW went down that much. AMAZING!

  • forg

    The CW special did decent for their low standards and somehow it’s good-ish platform to let their audience know that their shows are back with new seasons (and series premiere as well)

    The show just has more 50+ viewers just like its lead in DWTS

    What a bomb DWtS is.

    Partners is hanging on, the second episode was a lot better than the pilot so maybe Partners will grow hopefully in the coming weeks if CBS stays patient with it.

  • Hart of Rachel

    16 million viewers for Bears-Cowboys topped everything on broadcast last night and it aired on cable.

    Is ABC going to try to get Monday Night Football back from ESPN to duplicate Sunday Night Football’s success on NBC? DWtS is dying for them and they will be destroyed without it on Monday nights.

    The NFL seems to have gotten bigger since the last time ABC had the rights in 2005. So MNF would be huge on ABC these days.

  • trekker26

    it was announced on Revolution’s facebook page, NBC has picked it up for a full season.

    @ Elena,

    The problem is not Castle per se, but rather ABC’s strategy and brand. The ABC brand for all intents and purposes caters to an educated female audience in their mid 40s. It doesn’t have Football, so it can not appeal to a younger and more male audience. It also doesn’t have shows that appeal to the 18-34 demographic (a la Voice and Idol). Thus it can not use those platforms to appeal to a wider audience.

    If your brand appeal is narrow, the results shouldn’t be surprising.

    PS.

    For those who will say Modern Family, Greys, or OUAT, I will say:

    MF has Sofia Vergara who appeals to Latinos and guys. It also appeals to the LGBT community, and it is representative of what the new American family has become. OUAT has the Disney appeal that many people grew up with. Haven’t we seen the success of Mulan, Beauty and The Beast, and Shrek in the movies. Thus if a show incorporates some of those elements, and does them well, it could succeed. Greys.. Is the typical ABC show that caters to its brand. It defines the brand (Revenge is hoping to replicate it).

    @Hart of Rachel

    MNF isn’t going anywhere. For starters, ESPN and ABC are both owned by Disney, and MNF is far more successful on ESPN than it was on ABC. Also, I don’t believe the NFL’s current tv contract expires until 2014

  • Ultima

    @Sam vs Liz
    That many people watched the Bears game in Chicago that The CW went down that much.

    The Bears game likely had a local household rating of at least 30.0, although most everyone was watching on ESPN.

    The ESPN Monday Night Football deal lasts through the 2021 season. The FOX/CBS/NBC broadcast deal lasts through the 2022 season.

    I hope they don’t get rid of Castle, even if it does skew older. I’m just not interested in the action dramas. Not every drama needs to have regular shoot-‘em-ups.

  • Brian J

    Some of the comments here are a little too rash.

    “Revolution” is a hit. It could drop, but it’s not guaranteed to do so.

    “Dancing” is falling fast, but it’s still successful for ABC. I’d consider moving “Castle” from the night not because it’s struggling, but because ABC needs to use what power “Dancing” has left to nurture a new drama hit.

  • ARKeith2002

    @Elena

    Unfortunately, Body of Proof pulled in a massive amount of viewers, too, and it barely got renewed for a 13 episode third season back in May. It was pulling about the same numbers Castle is pulling now, when it had the DWTS lead-in, of course. Without DWTS, Body of Proof struggled to get mid 1’s in the demo, but still had around 7-9 million viewers.

    That being said, I’m a fan of both shows and was very appreciative of the BoP renewal in May… I don’t believe the show will be able to rely on DWTS as a lead-I when it comes back mid season, so that could be a problem…. I don’t see Castle getting canned at the end of the season if it can at least maintain the ratings it has gotten so far this season..just hope that there aren’t any more drops….this season isn’t starting off very strong for ANY network not NBC, for some reason….
