Update October 8 : The Mindy Project ranked third among those polled, far behind a couple of CBS shows, and Ben & Kate was even further behind, nonetheless...

With today's news that NBC has ordered full seasons of rookie's Revolution, Go On and The New Normal, our "who'll be the first to a full season" poll has come to an end (with very good results I might add), and it's time for another!

Which new Fall broadcast TV show will get the NEXT order for a full season?

For the uninitiated, rookie shows are usually given an order for 13 episodes as an initial commitment, and after a certain level of early success, are typically given an order for an additional 9 episodes to complete a "full" season of 22 episodes (although slight variations from the magic 22 are not uncommon).

These orders typically happen anytime from the start of the broadcast season until about Thanksgiving, but could conceivably go even later than that, for shows that don't premiere next week. The busiest period for these announcements is typically mid to late October.

What's your NEXT guess for this season?

While this poll allows just one answer per person, feel free to expand your choices in the comments.

  • CBS is pretty slow in renewals I think..so that’s why I didn’t say Elementary.

  • Nick

Here’s what I think will get pick-ups: (Remember, networks do it in groups)

Fox: The Mindy Project (Mid Oct)
    CBS: Elementary, Vegas (Late Oct)
ABC: Nashville, Last Resort (Late Oct)
CW: Beauty and the Beast, Emily Owens, Arrow (Early Nov)
    ABC: Malibu Country (Late Nov)
(B&TB and Vegas will still be canceled)

I said Elementary, but now would like to change it to Mindy.

  • JC

I’d love for it to be “666” or “Last Resort” but reality tells me it will be “Elementary”.

Normally I would say the Fox comedies, because they usually are pretty quick at renewing and they really seem to love the comedy block they have, and also because they will want to spin good news when they cancel the mob doctor. Hoowever, with goodwin games waiting in the wings, i think they will wait a bit more to see how they perform so that they get an accurate idea of which one to cancel. It will probably (sadly for me) be mindy project. But with baseball in the meantime and all that, I don’t think it will be very soon.

Therefore, I will go with Elementary, although it wouldn’t shock me if the cw renewed Arrow right out of the gate at the end of october. I am not expecting anymore full season pickups before the end of the month or november anyway, there are no clear winners so far.

  • Tom

Either Elementary for actual ratings, Mindy Project for good PR (to cover MD getting yanked off the November schedule).

Given that CBS may need their own good PR message to counter Partners, going with Elementary.

  • joel

It’s yet to be seen how far Elementary’s ratings fall. I kind of watched it but it was like taking a sleeping pill.

  • Jay

Just watched Chicago Fire On Demand. Excellent. Dick Wolf, great cast. That one is a lock.

  • Alex

I successfully predicted on one of the forums that Revolution would be the first renewed if it did well on Week 3, because a serialized show like that needs plenty of advance warning (one way or the other). I’m going to make the same call for Last Resort. If it does OK this week I think ABC will renew it for the full season.

Elementary seems like the obviuous choice here, with all The CW shows yet to premiere, and also Elementary is like the #2 New Drama, only after Revolution

  • joel

@ “and also Elementary is like the #2 New Drama, only after Revolution”

Tell that to CBS. They keep promoting Vegas as the #1 New Drama.

  • Andrew

    Where’s Revolution???

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

@Tom, others, CBS is typically later full season pickups than the others.

Not to be mean, but the reason why they ran this poll is because today NBC picked up Revolution, along with Go On and The New Normal for full-season orders.

  • Tom

@ Nick What makes you think the CW has enough inventory to replace any of its new shows? From what I’ve read, they had very few pilots from which to choose from in the first place. I just saw a preview of Emily Owens. With HOD as a lead in, I’d say Tuesday nights on the CW offers little of interest.

  • Sam vs. Liz

There’s some shows that are getting low numbers now and will be huge hits if kept around a few years from now.

There’s some shows getting decent or high numbers now that will be gone by next season or before that.

  • Nick

What makes you think the CW has enough inventory to replace any of its new shows?

I never said that. In fact, I said they would all get full seasons! I have no clue what you’re talking about.

  • Dan C.

CBS’s Elementary is the only one I think of that can get a back 9 right now.

  • Justin

    Guys With Kids

The Mindy Project would be 2nd.

  • Pepper

    Elementary and Vegas.
