via press release:
CBS News’ 48 HOURS “My Dad’s Killer” (P) (10:00-11:00 PM) was Saturday’s #1 program in households (3.4/06) and viewers (4.84m), according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Sept. 29, 2012.
Saturday’s broadcast featured Richard Schlesinger’s report “My Dad’s Killer,” which followed Hailey Sisco and her family’s quest to get justice for the murders of her father, Mike Sisco, and his fiancée, Karen Harkness. For a decade, Hailey was certain her mother killed her loved ones, but couldn’t prove it.
48 HOURS began following the case in 2008 when it was just a cold case. It’s a case family members credit 48 HOURS with keeping in the spotlight. The broadcast was there for the arrest of the killer and the emotional trial that included a son and daughter testifying against their mother. Mike Sisco’s sister, Cathy Boots, credited the prosecutors and police for not giving up. She also believes 48 HOURS played an important role. “I don’t think anyone would have taken note and pushed it as far as it did without it being televised first,” Boots says of 48 HOURS. “It was life-saving for us.”
48 HOURS: “My Dad’s Killer” was produced by Lourdes Aguiar and Sara Ely Hulse. Peter Shaw was the associate producer. Peter Schweitzer was the senior producer. Al Briganti is the executive editor. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.
“My Dad’s Killer” marked the start of the Emmy Award-winning 48 HOURS’ 25th full season. It’s the third-longest running primetime series and has been the #1 non-sports program on Saturday nights for six consecutive seasons.
