Based on Nielsen’s just-released NAD (National Audience Demographics) Live + Same Day Non-Sports Ratings for Premiere Week:

  • · ABC stood as the #1 network by wide margins during season premiere week (w/o 9/24/12) among Upscale Adults 18-49 ($100K+ annual income homes = 2.8 rating) in the non-sports averages, leading by double digits over CBS (+17% - 2.4 rating), Fox (+17% - 2.4 rating) and NBC (+27% - 2.2 rating). In addition, ABC also delivered the top ranks in other key Upscale categories, including high-income professionals or managers and those with 4+ years of college.

  • · ABC claimed 5 of the Top 15 entertainment telecasts during the first week of the season with Upscale Adults 18-49 (AD18-49 in $100K+ annual income homes), including the No. 1 series overall and 2 of the Top 3: “Modern Family” (8.8 rating) - #1, “Grey’s Anatomy” (5.6 rating) - #3, “Revenge” (4.2 rating) - #7, “The Middle” (3.8 rating) - #11 and “Once Upon a Time” (3.7 rating) - #13. In fact, ABC’s “Modern Family” outdelivered the No. 2 show by an impressive 42% (CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory”).

  • · Reporting an annual median income of $78,600 for its young adult audience, ABC’s “Shark Tank” drew premiere week’s highest median income for any broadcast TV show.

I’m actually surprised Once Upon a Time isn’t higher than #13

  • Marcos

Wait! Once upon a time lower than The middle and Revenge?! Say whaaaat

  • steve

I wish this was reported on more often. Very interesting.

  • EatMorePez

The people on Jersey Shore make more than $100K per year. So would they be considered “Upscale Adults” when they watch TV? (Because they’re certainly not upscale adults when they’re on TV.)

  • Hillbilly

ABC has out done itself. Next week will be ABC number 1 with homeless people. :???:

    @ Hillbilly

    LOL…. Best spin I seen in a while….

  • teamo

I dont know any “young adult viewer” who makes anywhere near $78,000. I can barely pay my student loans.

  • wichitahusker

Actually I think this is very interesting and very relevant. This information is DEFINITELY important to advertisers who might be willing to spend more on shows with fewer, but more upscale, viewers than on shows with larger audiences with less disposable income.

  • Bjm

ABC – #1 with rich people!

I wish the information was more detail….nowadays it seems as though we only get a small part of the information (the part the writer of the article wants to convey). I would love to see the actual list of top shows with total viewers over 100k of all ages.

Unfortunately, when you read the net spins for the same night it seems as though each net reports on a certain night but none of the nets spins match a competing net…

ABC – #1 with the Romneys

    @ Hillbilly

    That would be CBS
