Poll: Will the 'Supernatural' Premiere be Perfect Debate Counterprogramming?

Supernatural returns tonight. The CW has made the interesting choice to premiere it while the big four are airing the first Presidential Debate making it the only broadcast counterprogramming. The last time that happened -- when the CW aired America's Next Top Model opposite the Stand Up to Cancer telethon, the network actually won its time period in the fast nationals. While there is, to put it mildly, a lot more interest in the debate, it's not going to be as tough as competing head-to-head with its usual Wednesday night at 9PM adversary,  Modern Family.

Last season, when it aired Friday's at 9PM, Supernatural premiered to a 0.8 adults 18-49 rating on September 23,2011. The season finale on May 19 got a 0.7 in adults 18-49. So how will the brothers fare tonight?

  • Dillan

    I think it will get a 1.1.

  • Brittney

I have Cablevision so I don’t even have The CW anymore, although I can’t say that I miss any of their shows much. I still don’t think that Supernatural is going to do amazingly well, I say .6-.7.

  • Geordiegirl1967

The most obvious and likely option – of a 0.7 to 0.8 isn’t on the list!

  • Victor Hugo

2.5 million viewers and 1.0 ratings

  • bigbrotherfan

    0.9

  • s0303

i think it will hit a 1.0…good decision by the cw to run it against the debate…plus it’s not on friday anymore, so the ratings should raise a little anyway…

  • Jeff (Canada)

    0.6 to 0.7 I say.

  • Val

I’m guessing a 0.8-0.9 but of course hoping for more.

The season 7 finale actually got a 0.7. I can’t see it dropping from that, hopefully.

  • Nikki

The season finale on May 19 I think adjusted up to a 0.7

  • Anthony

I am gonna say a .7 although a .6 wouldn’t shock me. It’s in it’s 8th season, and moving to a new night, so I am not sure how many viewers will follow it (and I don’t see it picking up many new viewers). I could see it upticking next week though when Arrow premiers though because I think it will be big (for the CW).

    @Bill and @Robert

Supernatural disastrous season 7 finale got 0.7, not 0.6.

I am interested in the presidential debates, but I will be dvring them and watching the season premiere of Supernatural. True spn fans will probably react similarly to me.

  • KS

    0.8 -0.9 is my guess.

  • DW

    i went with a 1.0. a netflix bump.

What will be interesting is how the show does with the Cablevision blackout – those who have Cablevision do not get to watch any of Channel 11 or WPIX / CW programing and have to find the show on the internet.

This fact should be taken into consideration when calculating the numbers.

    Thank you.

  • Wright

1.2 or above for sure. The fans will definitely follow it to Wednesday night. Can’t wait for the new season to start.

  • Connman

Static would be better, so SN should do fine!

  • Mark

    .9

    Next week:
    Arrow – 2.1
    Supernatural – 1.0

I am not sure what the numbers will come in looking like, however I can’t see it doing more than a 0.8, at the most. Unfortunately the CW’s ratings are shrinking and the fact that is is off Cablevision in NY hurts even more.

Pedowitz is doing what he can to curb the slide, however, until the a new show hits like Vampire Diaries, they are in trouble. They need to find a way to make even more money off Online Viewing because they do have some of the top shows on the internet.
