Poll: Will the 'Supernatural' Premiere be Perfect Debate Counterprogramming?

Supernatural returns tonight. The CW has made the interesting choice to premiere it while the big four are airing the first Presidential Debate making it the only broadcast counterprogramming. The last time that happened -- when the CW aired America's Next Top Model opposite the Stand Up to Cancer telethon, the network actually won its time period in the fast nationals. While there is, to put it mildly, a lot more interest in the debate, it's not going to be as tough as competing head-to-head with its usual Wednesday night at 9PM adversary,  Modern Family.

Last season, when it aired Friday's at 9PM, Supernatural premiered to a 0.8 adults 18-49 rating on September 23,2011. The season finale on May 19 got a 0.7 in adults 18-49. So how will the brothers fare tonight?

    I’m not sure what number they’ll get but they’re losing a lot of viewers tonight because Cablevision took the CW off and hasn’t gotten it back yet. I just hope people realize this will probably be the reason why a whole chunk of viewers will be missing. It sucks that no one has done anything or pays attention to this fact.

  • Melanie

    I hope for .8 or .9 that would be awesome. I’d love to see it hit a 1.0 again — but I’m happy with it just being higher than last season on Fridays . . . . .

    Happy Winchester Wednesday!!!

    I will be watching SPN I suspect possibly 0.4-0.6 (I am starting low for a reason so I don’t get disappointed)

  • Immortal

    I think everyone’s excited but CW doesn’t air right now in so many states of EEUU, because of the problem with Cablevision and the owner of WPIX.
    So not so much rating for Supernatural, and because of Cablevision yeah thank you very much…

  • Cody

    Carver said he had a story through S10. Jensen and Jared are both signed through S10. If the ratings are good for the network, they show will continue for at least that long. Plus the network president loves it.

    I’m happy with the move to Wednesdays. Thanks to Netflix I got hooked on the show close to the end of last season and didn’t have room to record it on Friday’s, I’m not in a Nielsen household but I’d imagine there are a few others that are that had a similar situation, at least I hope.

    @Freyja

    That’s extremely low. 0.4 – 0.6. Seriously? I followed the same logic as you, and then I decided it to be 0.8-0.9.

    But I have decided to watch SPN during the mid-season hiatus. I can’t watch it now.

    @KS

    That’s extremely low. 0.4 – 0.6. Seriously?

    Yes, because I am counting in Cablevision taking the CW off their channels, in NJ and NY and the debate…

    I also don’t want to be disappointed, so I always set my bar low… =)

  • RG-X

    0.9 – 1.0 / 2.3 total

  • marie

    Unfortunately, Cablevision (optimum) no longer carries the CW at least here in New Jersey. Huge market loss.

  • Tessa

    @KS

    I’ve had so many Castiel and Destiel debates in the past couple of weeks I’m spent. The guy is MIA and people still can’t let go of him, or stop talking about his torrid romance with Dean.Dean is cheating on him anyways this season, with a vampire no less, so I don’t know if the old brotherly love vs. Angel bromance argument is even valid anymore. ;)

  • Pepper

    Hoping for a 1.0, expecting a .7 or .8

  • Tessa

    @Freyja
    Yes, because I am counting in Cablevision taking the CW off their channels.

    It didn’t seem to affect HoD’s ratings much last night.

  • Anon

    Yankees-Red Sox and Orioles-Rays will dent the major network ratings more than the CW.

    0.6 – 0.7

  • BobbyDazzler9876

    Let’s just all assume the ratings will be a big fat ZERO and then if it gets half a dozen viewers we’ll be happy!

  • Freyja

    @Tessa

    It didn’t seem to affect HoD’s ratings much last night.

    You do have a point there.

    I will wait for finals to make that call though.

    Although I will say this, I found 4 more guildies in (WOW) who now watch SPN and caught it on either Netflix or TNT reruns.

  • Tessa

    @BobbyDazzler9876

    What are you even saying?

  • KS

    @Tessa

    so I don’t know if the old brotherly love vs. Angel bromance argument is even valid anymore.

    My debate is certainly not about that, but just about Castiel. FYI, I never find him as an obstruction to brotherly love. My problem is I just don’t think his character itself is right.

  • KS

    @Tessa

    Not just that, I also don’t have any problem if the brothers are separate for an entire season and Dean and Castiel will have a love scene in purgatory. But the thing is, Sam and Dean should behave like brothers and right circumstance must lead to that love scene. In short, no one should behave OOC.

    Sadly, the numbers will be effected in the areas serviced by Cablevision. They have still not restored the CW programming to it’s customers and instead have bait and switched their customers with the NFL channel hoping they won’t notice.

  • LisaM

    I am hoping for at least a 1.0 but with some shows, I think people don’t know they’re new for the season, thus the low numbers.
