Poll: Will the 'Supernatural' Premiere be Perfect Debate Counterprogramming?

Supernatural returns tonight. The CW has made the interesting choice to premiere it while the big four are airing the first Presidential Debate making it the only broadcast counterprogramming. The last time that happened -- when the CW aired America's Next Top Model opposite the Stand Up to Cancer telethon, the network actually won its time period in the fast nationals. While there is, to put it mildly, a lot more interest in the debate, it's not going to be as tough as competing head-to-head with its usual Wednesday night at 9PM adversary,  Modern Family.

Last season, when it aired Friday's at 9PM, Supernatural premiered to a 0.8 adults 18-49 rating on September 23,2011. The season finale on May 19 got a 0.7 in adults 18-49. So how will the brothers fare tonight?

    A tree will fall in the forest. A big CW forest.

    This isn an interesting situation, with alot of different variables.

    I don’t recall (since Friday’s became a dumping ground about a decade or so ago) any show that was moved to Friday to finish its run getting pushed back to a normal week day (full time, not just a week or two trial).

    When SPN moved to Friday its DVR numbers increased dramatically. After two years of now getting used to that method ar people going to jump more to live same day, or jsut stick to extended viewing?

    Its lead in, isn’t a new fall program. First the first time on the CW a shows 8pm lead in will be summer filler.

    It will provide most likely (based on the last 5 weeks) the smallest lead in audience for any new fall show in the CW history for 9pm. Yes even lower then Nikita’s lowest episode in the last season.

    That’s a huge minus. Seriously why the network didn’t put Arrow up tonight just boggles my imagination.

    For the first time ever, SPN will air during a Presidential debate, in season four it aired during a vice presidential debate and had a sizable increase. But it also had started the season early and that season broke previous years records in either viewer or demo for every single original episode of the season. And it also had its normal (and still quite strong at that time) lead in Smallville.

    So that’s a plus, but not as big of a plus as it should be, thanks for CW for what should be teh lowest fall lead in in the CW’s history. Yeah!!!!

    Because of that I actually think .6 or .7.

    If Arrow would have aired tonight. I would guess in .8 to 1.0 range.

    0.8. The CW doesn’t have a pulse. And I’m not sure there’s enough awareness of Supernatural being on tonight.

    @KS

    This is an American TV ratings website. Leave your Indian politics out of it.

    Terrible idea to air the premiere tonight.

    This question appears to be presuming that the Presidential Debate itself isn’t supernatural.

    In my previous post, I made a mistake in converting Indian currency(rupees) to Dollars. It was actually $70 Billion dollars. It is officially estimated. I can’t imagine how much it is unofficially. Dude, it’s been proven quite a lot of times, India is one of the most corrupt countries of the world.

    I am really glad that in your country there is at least a definite number as to tell how many are hopeless. In our country, even that number doesn’t exist. You government does something to protect that 47%. At least your government would support them financially in education and health. Here illiteracy is rampant and a lot of Indians can’t actually pay for their health, government takes no action. Quite a lot of them are not included insurance. Many people die because of simple diseases, just because they don’t have money to buy medicines or for hospital charges.
    At the end all I wish from our government is, at least to take care of little kids, who sleep on dirty roads everyday. Hell, there is no foster care system here either.

    My guess would be 0.7 or 0.8.
    And there it will pretty much stay for the rest of the season too.

  • John A

    0.9 would be good. If Arrow does well maybe a 1.1 next week.

  • Kyle

    SpoilerTV is reporting a .8. If so that would be a HUGE disappointment.

  • Alex

    @Kyle
    Not really cause the show is 8 years old and it’s on the CW that’s steady dropping.

  • CrimTV

    @Kyle

    That’s an early estimate, almost garuanteed adjustments!

    @KS “…in your country there is at least a definite number…

    Not my country, I’m with the frozen chosen from the Great White North eh. That 47% figure was me poking fun at Mittens J. Romney Esq. who in a secretly taped event insulted 47% of the Americans by basically calling them leeches. No matter what country, most politicians, IMHO, should be doing a jig at the end of a rope.

    ymmv
