NBC need to give Parenhood a good final 5th season so it can go with out with some bang, the show has so become painful to watch.

A cancer storyline really 4 Kristina of all people how cliche and predictable is that, yes even for parenthood. Still better than the new NBC shows or other crap out there though but for its own standard, its has taken a huge step down. The writers are just running out of ideas.

    @eridapo
I see a problem that is getting worst every year.

If by getting worse every year you mean that the numbers keeping getting smaller, then I really don’t know what else to say other than it is expected. The big four’s network share has been declining for over 30 years, the only possible result of that is smaller ratings across the board.

If by getting worse you mean the rate of decline is increasing, then that is probably just perception. Last year was an anomoly, as the major networks were essentially flat year-to-year; we’ve now returned to the normal decline.

Bill, now that NBC has ordered full seasons of Go on and TNN will they air regardless of how low the ratings go?

  • Montecore

Vegas is a great show, but it will probably be cancelled because of some piece of garbage reality show! Hell On Wheels is another good show also.

  • AlexD

Guess I’m one of the few that really enjoys Go On and Elementary. :)

Why is everyone calling Vegas cancelled one it has some of the highest viewers of any new show this fall? It skews older it doesn’t mean it should be cancelled. Move it to Friday nights sandwiched between CSI NY and Blue Bloods. I watched Vegas and it quickly is a favorite. Vegas and Last Resort are my favorite new TV shows. Vegas was written by the writer who wrote Goodfellas. Its one of those shows that you kind of have to let kind of build and find its way. It deserves people to view it. Why wouldn’t Vegas be a great fit on Fridays? Honestly you could also move Blue Bloods up to 9pm on Fridays and have it lead into Vegas. Anyways it aint going anywhere.

    @Kyle

Do the NBC comedy numbers look bad? Sure. Will they get a second season? Well, it depends on when the free-falling ends, but as was said here, freaking “Whitney” was renewed with a 1.3.

NBC seems to be in the “beggars can’t be choosers” situation.

We will see who is a flop when the rest of the CW lineup (excluding The Vampire Diaries, Arrow and maybe Supernatural) premiere lower that Hart of Dixie did. A .7 may be awful for any other network, but at the CW that’s a guaranteed renewal. Saying that Hart of Dixie is a flop leads me to believe you are either a bitter Secret Circle fan or a bitter Ringer fan.

You are seriously naive, do you think those shows will do worse than Dixie. Its not like Dixie has an “real purpose” of a show. You know its possible to not praise HOD numbers without being some bitter cancelled show fan , sorry that people aren’t exactly kissing up HOD’s low ratings, just cause it may do better than other shows doesn’t mean its doing great. Those numbers are really nothing to be proud of. People’ opinions aren’t going to get your show cancelled, so relax.

Anyway looking forward to seeing how Raising hope will do without the episode being leaked. Its possible it may have affected it or, it just might how thing we be from now.

ok last fall i thought wow a new show with Rachel Bilson is going to be so much fun and when the show premiered i was like what , i mean all season 1 was about what a secret kiss, and now season 2 is just about Zoe with who to sleep with ? Oh come on, very bad writing !

“If by getting worse you mean the rate of decline is increasing, then that is probably just perception. Last year was an anomoly, as the major networks were essentially flat year-to-year; we’ve now returned to the normal decline.”

    That’s my guess.

Poor conclusions based on observational bias caused by limited data intake.

Vegas had more viewers than H50 yes, with a better lead in with the 2 NCIS shows, H50 had a 2.0/5 demo with poor lead in, Vegas had a 2.0/6 demo just seems the 10:00 hour on CBS has less viewers but does better in DVR viewing. Clarke you say Elementary is not a flop (I agree) but we will have to wait and see what their 2nd week numbers are going to be. Thank TNT for the H50 syndication deal, also the 230 foreign markets bring in Billions each episode and H50 is tops in the Canadian Market each week, not sure about the standings in the other 229 countries but those numbers might not mean a lot to advertising but I would think lining CBS pockets with Billions of dollars should count for something.

“I am over both of those shows getting cancelled as sadly their end ratings justified it. HOD however should have been cancelled aswell and it will be when it falls to 0.5s by 2013.”

That was said last year, and it didn’t premiere a 0.5, you have to just wait and see. HoD is the most consistent show in CW along with Supernatural and 90210. It lost so little audience from season one. If it stays at 0.7 and fall just a bit during the season, it will get renewed again.

“Bill, now that NBC has ordered full seasons of Go on and TNN will they air regardless of how low the ratings go?”

Shows *can* have their orders reduced, and its not a freakish occurrence (like, say a show moving from one network to another is), but its not common.

  • RAYRAY

    Go On must survive.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

@JONNYSBRO, total viewership is irrelvant. The sooner you internalize that fact, the sooner your disappointment over shows with high total viewerships being canceled can end.

As for Hawaii Five-0, since TNT has already bought it, nothing short of ratings cataclysm, and maybe not even that will remove it from CBS’s line up until at least May, 2014.

  • AlexFan

Dear Bill Gorman, maybe you an answer a very important question. Not being a Nielsen Family, does my viewership count at all, how about DVR viewing, online viewing or on demand viewing. If not TV viewing is as bad as politics where a few people decide everything for the rest of us but with politicians at least we can vote on election day. I am confused, Thank you

  • Wendy

I notice the Tuesday comedies on all channels will be pre-empted in two weeks for a presidential debate. So for all the shows that have come back only to struggle (maybe with the exception of “New Girl”), I think being an election year can also hurt or kill momentum since they will be pre-empted for politics. And for Fox, it is likely a double whammy as not only is there election stuff, but baseball to consider, too.

  • PV

Private Practice doesn’t survive without Greys. This should be the last year of the show.

  • nikki

no your viewing doesnt count.. if your not a nielsen house.

  • Colt

[I hope Hart Of Dixie can go higher next week. Hopefully over 2 million.]

Well, I would have hoped so from the beginning, but lol you cant be serious now, that ship has sailed, it can only go down from here. The show isn’t doing anything to gain an audience,. It would be lucky to retain the audience it has.
