What this .03% drop means is that the number of unemployed people dropped by 456,000 when only 114k jobs were created–well below the monthly average, and below population growth. Where did 342k people go to lower the number so dramatically just 31 days before a presidential election? Did they retire, leave the planet, die of old age in the unemployment office?
From ABC news
This time, the improvement was not due to people dropping out of the workforce but “actually reflects a substantial increase in employment,” Holzer said.
114,000 is a substantial increase and drops .03?
Good Morning again1
i was at the board of diirectors meeting at the local Realtor board and we had our lawyer and accountant there since we are starting the budget process for next year. The jobs numbers came out during the meeting…………I can not describe the level of laughter in the room!!!
Our accountant was almost rolling on the floor! Our lawyer went on to his IPad and pulled up an old email from some DNC group that he received a couple of months ago (he has saved every political email for the last 6 months from both sides). That email said and I kid you not that unemployment would be “at least 7.8% at the end of September but it is our determained goal to be much lower as President Obama has A PLAN!”
Our lawyers proclimation this morning “IT’S MAGIC”
This is how it is done. I did not know this
The number of employed Americans comes from a government survey of 60,000 households that determines the unemployment rate. The government asks a series of questions, by phone or in person. For example:
Do you own a business? Did you work for pay? If not, did you provide unpaid work for a family business or farm? (Those who did are considered employed.)
Afterward, the survey participants are asked whether they had a job and, if so, whether it was full or part time. The government’s definition of unemployed is someone who’s out of work and has actively looked for a job in the past four weeks.
The government also does a second survey of roughly 140,000 businesses to determine the number of jobs businesses created or lost.
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows President Obama attracting support from 49% of voters nationwide, while Mitt Romney earns the vote from 47%. One percent (1%) prefers some other candidate, and three percent (3%) are undecided. See daily tracking history.
These results are based upon nightly interviews and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. As a result, only about one-third of the interviews for today’s update were conducted after the presidential debate. The single night of polling conducted after the debate did show some improvement for Romney, but it remains to be seen whether that will continue or if it was merely statistical noise. Sunday morning’s update will be the first national polling based entirely upon post-debate interviews.

Even MSNBC is questioning the numbers
*Considering this, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough was baffled, and fellow panelist Willie Geist notes that rate should have been around 8.1%:
*Popular finance blog Zero Hedge echoed that sentiment, calling it a “complete preelection ‘massaging’ farce.”
*Economists were expecting 113,000 more jobs and the rate to rise to 8.2 percent. Last month saw 142,000 new jobs as the rate dropped from 8.3 percent in July.
@Rats & Doug
There are actually two jobs surveys released every month: “There’s the Establishment Non-Farm Payrolls report, which surveys businesses, and the household survey, which surveys households, the latter of which is always more volatile.”

there was an article out a couple days ago laying out the “new” way of figuring it and that had it at 8.1% also. You are correct with “shovel ready” report but you forgot the part that we all need some high top boots too!
I really hope for improvement but with all the BS getting flung around to make people THINK it is getting better is hurting more than helping at the public level! Give us real numbers so we cna all work to fix the problem!

Obama Campaign Shifts Into Extreme Attack Mode
With its candidate having been swamped in the debate by an aggressive and articulate Gov. Mitt Romney, the Obama campaign is switching fully into attack mode, moving beyond earlier assaults on Romney’s business record and wealth toward a new drive to destroy his character.
Casting completely aside the Obama 2008 brand of a hopeful unifier, Obama’s operatives Thursday dived straight the jugular, working on multiple fronts to brand Romney a liar. The campaign, Obama aides made clear, would henceforth be conducted exclusively Chicago style.
In a vicious and personal assault rarely conducted at the highest level of U.S. politics, White House senior adviser David Plouffe repeatedly told reporters aboard Air Force One that Romney was “dishonest.” With the president of the United States in a cabin just a few steps away, his top adviser pushed out the new campaign theme that the man who had bested him in the debate Wednesday night is an untrustworthy scoundrel.
Generally presidential campaigns leave such personal attacks to surrogates, at least preserving the appearance that presidential candidates are above such things
Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki opened Plouffe’s remarks by airing for reporters the new Obama campaign ad, “Trust,” which claims that Romney is lying about his tax plan and can’t be trusted to be president.
On a separate front, top campaign adviser David Axelrod convened a phone call with reporters telling them that the “question” for them “is really one of character and whether or not a candidacy that’s so fundamentally rooted in hiding the truth and the facts from the American people and deception is the basis of trust on which you assign the presidency to a person.”
Axelrod announced that this would be the new theme of the Obama campaign. “That is what we are going to focus on moving forward,” he said.
@Ratboy
I cannot find any site that did not predict a jump in the rate, and all of them were wrong? uh huh…
All the projected numbers I ever recieved from my trading site has always been every, very close to the published numbers, they had a jump in the rate of either 8.1 or 8.2, with expected 100,000 new jobs.
Even if you take the revised numbers they did with improved jobs increases, you only get a drop of .01
I don’t have much hope, but if the MSM actually does their job maybe we can all find out what method they now use.

Price per gallon of regular gas went up only 2¢ since yesterday, now at $4.70/gal. Locals who were mad at Bush and high prices are now very quiet…
Jeff probably won’t be worrying about it while he savours Coq au Vin (or Poulet-Fil-A perhaps) with Doug Z and James by the Seine.

Here is my Fav Jim Rogers quote about the plans both Romney and Obama have
“It’s worse than clueless, because they think they know what they’re doing.. and so they are dangerous! If they were just clueless and looked out the window, we wouldn’t have a problem, but they think they have the solution – but their solutions are what’s making the situation worse…” – in CNBC

I’m hearing gas will peak there at about 5.50 Avg before it gets better, and the left may be silent about the prices now, but they keep forgetting one thing Apple. People in the public are still paying. And if they drive to vote, bet your boots, they will consider that as well.
NBC Nightly news ran a story every night when Bush was in and it hit 2.50 pg.

Fact Check: Suspicion Falls on Labor Secretary Solis as She Misleads on Jobs Numbers
Suspicion about the federal government’s September jobs report has fallen on Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, who appeared on CNBC this morning and defended the numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), claiming–falsely–that upward revisions of 86,000 jobs were from the private sector.
In fact, the new number is entirely accounted for by upwards revisions to state and federal government payrolls.
