So Much For Our 'Mob Doctor' Replacement Guesses; What Is Fox Going To Do Now? (Poll)

A couple weeks ago, after the collapse and obvious doom of Fox's The Mob Doctor, we had a replacement triage guessing poll to try and figure out what Fox would do on Monday night.

But with today's announcement that Kitchen Nightmares is premiering on Friday, October 26, and Touch is being held until January (no date or timeslot announced), it seems that the "something else" answer (chosen by the fewest polled) is going to happen.

Monday October 15 is definitely baseball (NLCS game 2), October 22 might be baseball (NLCS game 7), Oct 29 might be baseball (WS game 5). Historically, a game 7 is relatively rare, but a game 5 is almost certain.

At this point, I'm almost out of guesses as to what Fox does for Monday at 9pm, so this poll is a simple one.

    Burn Mob Doctor off, let major league baseball playoffs take over, and worry about it later.

    Burn Mob Doctor off, run another X-Factor clip show

    Reruns of kitchen nightmares or hotel hell

    Reruns of their Tuesday comedies in the hopes of getting more eye balls

    Lots of possibilities

    Still think they might just be saying they will air Touch in January, but then move it to Mondays in November

  • John_M

    How much editing would they have to do to run Sons of Anarchy “Classic” at 9 pm

  • John_M

    Still think they might just be saying they will air Touch in January, but then move it to Mondays in November

    And they’d do that why? They just made a public announcement that they were pushing the premiere back.

    John_M, when you write “Burn Mob Doctor off” what day and time do you think that’s going to happen?

    “Still think they might just be saying they will air Touch in January, but then move it to Mondays in November”

    I’m with John_M, what possible motivation would Fox have to pull something like that?

  • tati

    It will be some other pseudo-reality tripe–even reruns will likely score better :(

  • John_M

    @Bill

    I think they leave it at Monday at 9, barring pre-emption by baseball games. I don’t know the baseball playoff schedule this year, I’ve not been paying attention cause I’m working on a pretty large NBA statistical project of my own.

    I was just spitballing ideas. I expect that whenever they decide to pull Mob Doctor (if) they’ll just fill it up with reruns of reality garbage, clip shows, or heck maybe they’ll run Touch from the beginning again and explain how that ‘special new episode’ in september fits into the chronology of the season finale (haven’t figured that out yet)

  • Julia

    While I can’t quite see why they would make an announcement about Touch being held until January, I can easily see why they would keep Mob Doctor in until November and then replace it, to avoid Touch getting hit by playoffs. And not announcing that would make Mob Doctor not look completely like a burn off. But, again, announcing Touch to January doesn’t jive with that.

    “I think they leave it at Monday at 9, barring pre-emption by baseball games. I don’t know the baseball playoff schedule this year, ”

    Monday October 15 is definitely baseball (NLCS game 2), October 22 might be baseball (NLCS game 7), Oct 29 might be baseball (WS game 5).

    Keeping The Mob Doctor on the schedule until January would be quite a surprise.

    @Julia – Fox doesn’t want to announce the cancellation of The Mob Doctor, they will air it on October 8 but will wait until after then to pull it. The January announcement is like when CBS announced Rules for saturdays last season. Its not gonna happen and when Mob Doctor is pulled FOX will replace it with Touch in November.

  • John_M

    @Bill

    So there you go – after the 8th, FOX is hoping the next three weeks is pre-empted by baseball – and they’re hoping that it involves the Yankees on October 29th and, well, not sure what NL teams they’re hoping for.

    I think after the baseball playoffs they’ll just fill it with reruns of stuff. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear a sudden announcement of some new ‘limited’ reality show (they threw together) to air in November/December to cover sweeps.

    Like ALL of the 4 nets, Fox is in deep doodoo. Down and dead on Monday, 3 of 4 sitcoms all but dead on Tuesday, the joke that is 20 million viewers for X Files on Weds and Thurs, the ever disappearing Glee, a non-Friday night and one decent but fading animated block. Touch makes Fringe ratings look like X Files. “Saving” it for next year is simply delaying that turkey.

    New February 2013 Fox President will have their work cut out for them.

    Well, Bones shoul have 26 episodes this season since there are 4 left and I think the renewal was for 22, so they could 2 episodes back-to-back here and there

  • John_M

    @Dan

    That presumes that CBS did that on purpose – and that FOX would foolish to announce such a thing and then a few weeks later change their mind. If FOX’s plan is to do such a thing…just don’t say anything. It makes NO SENSE to announce something like this if their plan is the convoluted hoop jumping you suggest

  • John_M

    @Shawn

    It occurred to me that 2 hours of Bones might be useful for FOX – but wasn’t sure.

  • Ccemerson

    Borrow from Sister channel FX and run season 1 of American Horror Story. Can’t believe they didn’t have a plan B on their hands if one or more shows failed. Crazy to me.

  • John_M

    @Bill

    Baseball
    Non November Sweeps – mob doctor
    November sweeps – specials to artificially inflate the monday at 9 numbers (does that actually work with advertisers?)
    Post Sweeps/December – it’s a big rerun season anyway – burn it off – show movies – whatever

  • Marcos

    glee may be possible that to pass on Mondays and Thursdays following?

  • Oliver

    Fox could have easily said ‘mid-season’ rather than ‘January’ . What incentive do they have to lie?

    Fox have lots of options but few sensible ones. I can’t see Mob Doctor still doctoring the mob in November and I can’t imagine Fox leaving a hole in their schedule.

  • MattM

    Should have renewed Alcatraz, it could have grown…just saying. :P

    What ever happened to the Following? They can always start that and just push Touch back a bit or move it to a different night.
