So Much For Our 'Mob Doctor' Replacement Guesses; What Is Fox Going To Do Now? (Poll)

A couple weeks ago, after the collapse and obvious doom of Fox's The Mob Doctor, we had a replacement triage guessing poll to try and figure out what Fox would do on Monday night.

But with today's announcement that Kitchen Nightmares is premiering on Friday, October 26, and Touch is being held until January (no date or timeslot announced), it seems that the "something else" answer (chosen by the fewest polled) is going to happen.

Monday October 15 is definitely baseball (NLCS game 2), October 22 might be baseball (NLCS game 7), Oct 29 might be baseball (WS game 5). Historically, a game 7 is relatively rare, but a game 5 is almost certain.

At this point, I'm almost out of guesses as to what Fox does for Monday at 9pm, so this poll is a simple one.

Interesting development, a rating loser like Mob Doctor hasn’t been yanked off and the possible replacements are gone, so what now? I voted “who the heck knows” because at this point FOX could put switch Mob Doctor and Fringe and would make more sense than letting Mob Doctor air on the it’s slot, still… reruns or things like that, but I don’t know, it could be anything

American Idol also looks bad for Fox considering the fight between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. Fox is not having a good year so far. They have the baseball playoffs. Then what?

@Ram510, the CBS comedies are still worse adversaries than the ABC and NBC Tuesday comedies combined I think. Also that would involve moving the schedule around too much (even though if there is a network likely to do such big moves during the season, it’s FOX). I think what Fox will do, if Touch really comes back only in January is:

    Next Week: Last Mob Doctor
    Then Basebaball
After Baseball: Glee is moved to Mondays following Bones, where it is completely slaughtered by the voice and 2 broke girls. The X-Factor gets a one hour edition on Thursdays.
2013: The Following is launched out of American Idol, with Bones/Glee keeping Mondays.

This is the only option I can think of. If Fox really does this, they will kill Glee. I don’t even watch the show but even I know that putting it agains the stronger hour of the voice and 2 broke girls is a bigger suicide than putting it against grey’s anatomy. it will die.

@Ben, We weren’t born yesterday, that Carey/Minaj thing is PR flim flam.

Bones has 26 episodes this season. That’s four more episodes than usual. November sweeps lasts for four weeks. I fail to see the problem with airing two originals for four weeks.

Plus, with the baseball preemptions (and the fact that Fox stopped original programming on Mondays the last week of November for at least the past two years) Bones will only have aired 12 out of the 26 episodes ordered and would still have 14 to air January-May, one more than the (presumed) season 1 order of The Following.

I’m really not sure what they are planning on putting there. The only other drama that I know of that is confirmed picked up for this year is The Following but I don’t think it has even started filming yet (and is only a limited order).

Pull Mob Doctor and replace it with repeats of Mob Doctor…

I don’t think the Carey/Minaj thing is PR flim flam (I think the blow up was real), but I do think it’s PR gold. I think Nigel knew he had a powderkeg on his hand, and just lit the fuse and smiled.

Someting like this happend before, remember Lone star and Lie To Me? Possibly they postpoint the Touch premiere so they can air it on mondays when they see fit (which would be after the possible game 7 i think)

It looks like Big Bill Gorman is now wrong twice! The Mob Doctor is now filming episode 7, good news for the show. Bill Gorman and guys like Dan should try watching the show first before criticizing it, instead of judging the show by the ratings only. Your followers talk about “feeding the bear” which is so juvenile for an adult website. Bill Gorman also told me “dream on” in regards to this show and that it would be 100% cancelled by now, as did 90% of the responders. I have an idea, why don’t we all try WATCHING the show and then comment on it, it is a good show.

Renew Alcatraz and put it on Monday. It prob would have hit at least a 2.0 if they renewed it.

The Following has 15 episodes, not 13.

  • SJ

It could open with a 2 hour premiere. Are we seriously considering Bones a good lead-in now? I have to think Fox is shooting for more than a 2.1 for The Following.

  • Greg

It’s a good lead in for FOX standards. But you might be right about the 2 hour premiere.

How about bringing a game show back? Don’t forget the lyrics, 5th grader or any other FOX game show.

Here’s a few theories I can piece together based on this decision.

    1) FOX doesn’t want to cancel or pull The Mob Doctor yet. One reason is that it doesn’t want the show to be the first cancellation of the season. Its likely to be pulled after next week’s episode in which case Touch might step in.

    2) FOX only said Touch would air midseason because they have not axed Mob Doctor. Therefore MD airing Mondays and KN airing Fridays makes there no available slot for MD.

    3) FOX wants Kitchen Nightmares to air with Fringe on Fridays because that combo works well. And Kitchen Nightmares does better for Fridays then it does Mondays.

    3) If MD is pulled Touch could air with Bones Mondays beginning November 5, where Touch can be evaluated for a full season. If it gets it than Touch will likely air there and the remaining episodes will be moved to Fridays to make room for The Following on Mondays when Fringe ends.

    4) Fringe is not moving to mondays. The shows over and it may confuse viewers to move it to another night. every remaining new episode will air on a Friday.

    5) Bones having 26 episodes doesn’t mean that the episodes will be doubled up, it just means less “Bones” repeats in that slot during the year until may.

    November 5
    8:00 Bones
    9:00 Touch

    Beginning February
    8:00 Bones
    9:00 The Following

    @ Jcc
The website is called tv by the Numbers, It deals with viewing figeres not the quality of the show your watching. And the Viewing figeres for mob doctor are pointing towards cancelation, and sooner or later it will be.

  • Tom

@ TVMan Enough already. Alcatraz opened with a 3.3 for the first two episodes. It last scored above a 2.0 demo for episode 5. That was a 2.2. Then the ratings progressively declined to a 1.5 for the final episode. In other words, the ratings were headed south faster than a bunch of geriatrics in winter. So, no way would it ever hit a 2.0 again.

  • Bill Gorman

I don’t buy the “Fox announced one thing for Touch today, but they’re already planning to announce something else entirely with it very soon” theory. I just don’t think they’re that nefarious, nor do they need to be.

  • Dan

@JCC – I never said The Mob Doctor was a bad show. Some really good shows are low rated like 30 Rock, Community etc. But as good as a show is, TV is a business. You can have the most critically acclaimed show on TV and if the 18-49 numbers are low then it will be cancelled. Bill only thought it would be pulled like everyone else because 1.5, 1.3, 1.0 is cancellation territory and more than likely after a few episodes with those dropping low numbers, shows get cancelled.

A similar thought last year was that A Gifted Man would be pulled before sweeps with terrible numbers and it wasn’t and instead it was given 3 more episodes and then cancelled in May. Why CBS did this, we’ll never know. Its more than likely that The Mob Doctor will air an episode next week and its cancellation will be announced October 8 or 9 but FOX probably thought a new Mob Doctor would do better than a Bones repeat.
