At 8pm opposite Fox’s The X Factor and CBS’ Survivor: Philippines, ABC’s The Middle beat out its NBC comedy competition (Animal Practice) by 2.7 million viewers and by 47% in Adults 18-49. In addition the ABC comedy bested Survivor in both Adults 18-34 (+7%) and Women 18-34 (+13%).
Retaining an impressive 91% of its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 8:30pm and 94% in Women 18-34, against the second half-hours of X Factor and Survivor, ABC’s The Neighbors defeated its freshman comedy competition (NBC’s Guys With Kids) by double digits in Total Viewers (+20%) and young adults (+11%).
Talk about spin.
And I thought the only spinning last night was after the Presidential debate
This is the exact same network that called Work It a hit comedy series in January 2012, (after a week on the air)! Maybe ABC can get some entertainment tv show (such as Entertainment Tonight) to say that The Neighbors is the new TV show that “everyone is talking about”. Of course what “everyone is saying about The Neighbors” is not exactly praise worthy.

Show held up pretty well if you ask me.
And does *anyone* on this site actually watch the show? Or just comment on how *bad* (they arent) ratings are?
“The Neighbors” is quirky and crazy, and it’s watchable… unlike other comedies premiering this season. I liked it.
“Animal Practice” has a lot of potential, just replace the woman with the black hair (not sure what her job is, and forgot her name) and keep the humor up.
The Neighbors will be around for awhile regardless of how good or bad the show actually is.
Maybe if the writers on ABC shows had the same level of creativity as their PR team the PR team wouldn’t have to work as hard to make crap look like cream.
As of late, we have to make do with half-half.
Jami Gertz and Lenny Venito are so likeable. If ABC were to cancel this show they better do anything they can to keep these two on ABC.
I never got the impression ABC thought this show would do anything close to say Modern Family’s ratings. That being said week 2 held up pretty nicely considering the weak lead in from The Middle but still managing to keep 90% of those viewers. The Neighbors exceeded any expectations I had…which were low I admit. But it does say something when you can premiere a show then move it and it still manages to hold an audience.
The Neighbors is 91% as good as The Middle. And I can’t disagree.
This show is dead especially when you compare it to what Suburgatory did last year and the NBC comedies are chasing it down now.

You know your comedy show is in trouble when Canada, known for it’s comedy and sense of humour, puts it on Saturday night @ 10pm … why even license it in the first place if that’s the best spot they can find to stick it until it dies.
