I loved GH today too! It’s been really good, and I can’t wait to
watch it. The writing and actors are doing so good. I’m mad at NBC
for the way they treated Ann Curry who has been there 15 years. And the way they treated Conan. Also this year the firing of our favorites Jack and Carrie on Days. They treat people poorly. Now Bo too, they could have given him what he wanted. He is the Tom Horton now on Days. I don’t like the way they
treat people. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth!

  • Kayla Rae

Sophie, what exactly are you claiming Peter Reckell “wanted” on Days?

IMO, Ann Curry got what she deserved. She just did not perform up to standards on Today. Truth hurts.

And, puh-leeze, your going on about NBC being “bad,” is amusing. Look at what ABC did to AMC and OLTL. LOL!

By the way, GH remains a bore.

  • Kayla Rae

I agree with you, Cab, that the Nielson ratings system is flawed at best. And much-beloved DOOL certainly remains a television institution which deserves to be treated with TLC.

    Go Days!

  • JayTN

I’m all for assigning blame where it belongs, but NBC doesn’t deserve any blame for the “firings” of Matthew Ashford (Jack), Christy Clark (Carrie), or even Peter Reckell (Bo). If you want to blame somebody, start with production company Sony. Usually in these producer/actor squabbles I take the side of the producers, because no actor or actress is irreplaceable. Just ask Charlie Sheen, and he was the star of “Two and a Half Men”.

Calling Bo Brady the current “Tom Horton…on Days” is a big leap. Tom Horton was a patriarch that was related to many characters and friends with many more. Who exactly is Bo related to or close to other than wife/ex-wife Hope? While the character may be biologically related to others, he doesn’t often interact with them.

This Thursday is Eileen Davidson’s return “on screen” to DAYS, I think DAYS ratings will be on the uptick!!

  • Sophie

Peter didn’t want to take a pay cut, I say give him what he wants, or work it out for him. He’s the next Tom Horton. They get Kristen what is she getting? Give it to Peter. NBC is to blame for the firings.I’m saying I don’t watch NBC anymore. Alot of people are upset with Matt Lauer cuz he got Ann fired. The ratings are going down in the morning, and on Daytime. People are saying they are tired of the way they treat people and I agree. And GH is winning against Days since they have taken these characters off canvas. Well deserved!! Ha Ha Days!! GH is soooo good, So glad it’s on one hour earlier!

  • LynTX

Thought some of you might find the Soapnet ratings interesting. These are top 10 shows viewed during specified week. If I recall correctly, they are in addition to Nielson. So for example, Y&R would have an addl 2M viewers for that week.

It would not have added two million viewers. The weekly number is an average of the viewership of the five days. By those numbers, Y&R’s added weekly viewership would be 404,000.

  • LynTX

    Thanks WMD for clarification……

  • Kayla Rae

Sophie, you sound bitter and defensive. GH deserves you as a fan. Enjoy while you can!

  • JayTN

Sophie…not to be rude, but who are these “people” you keep talking about? Your friends and/or family? If so, I hate to break this to you, but they do not represent the American viewer.

Obviously you believe what you want to believe, so I’m not going to bother to argue with you about “Days” or NBC. If you want to assign blame, go ahead. It’s obvious that you love you some Peter Reckell. For me, I say “don’t let the door hit you on the way out”. Good riddance. The next Tom Horton? Puh-leeze!

  • Kayla Rae

I get what you are saying about Bo’s character NOT being a Tom Horton, per se. However, Bo is related to the whole Brady clan and relates/interacts with several characters in Salem. He certainly is a beloved fixture on Days and among its citizens. However, he is not a stalwart patriarch as Tom Horton was.

As for pay cuts, I wouldn’t feel to sorry for the soap actors who make quite a tidy some to be sure…pay cut or no pay cut.

That said, I will miss Bo/Peter very much and wish he were not leaving Salem. Hopefully, he will return at least from time to time.

And I sure wish Days would bring back Patch/Steve and reunite him with Kayla. They are such a classic oouple and the actor who plays Steve is being wasted on Y&R…he belongs back on Days.

Also would love to see Caliope Jones and Eugene Bradford return to Salem as comic relief. What a great couple they are! No one ever pulled off eccentric comedic characters like Eug and Caliope! Spinelli on GH pales in comparison.

  • Chrisann

I truly enjoy GH. I enjoy Days and Y&R too. But others must enjoy B&B since it is rated #2 over GH and Days. I am not saying GH is the best soap of the 4 but I like it better than any of the others. Doesn’t make it the BEST soap just makes it my favorite. In fact it is the only one I have been watching every day. If I had the time I would watch Days and Y&R. I do try to watch them at least once a week to catch up on them. They just aren’t “must watch” for me.

  • Chrisann

Kayla I may be wrong but didn’t you say you aren’t watching GH? If so how can you say it is STILL a bore??

  • Kayla Rae

I do check in and try to watch GH from time to time…but, for me, it just never improves. Oh well. Days rarely disappoints, though I am disappointed at Bo’s/Peter’s departure for sure. He’s great and will be deeply missed.

  • Pinkle

Not a bad week for Days. Yes, they gained 45,000 viewers this week, most of which were younger viewers, but don’t forget that they lost 50,000 younger viewers last week. They pretty much gained the audience they lost back, and they are right back to where they were, so they are not out of the woods yet.

GH and Days are both in the woods with the cancellation bear lurking (Don’t know if any of you read other posts on this site, but the cancellation bear is a fixture on this site). I would say that GH is more likely to avoid the bear than Days because of ratings and the fact that Days tapes SO FAR IN ADVANCE. I think that their current tape schedule is hurting them because if things don’t work out, it takes too long to change them. Days is already taping episodes that won’t air until next year! That means that the material is probably written ALMOST HALF A YEAR before it airs! That’s not good, especially when people are not pleased with the writing and are tuning out.

I think that because of the tape/writing schedule, NBC is probably looking at Days’ ratings as they are NOW, and that is what they are going to make their decision off of. In the event that Days does get cancelled, I would hope NBC would give the show enough time to write and shoot a proper finale.

That being said, the only good part about Days right now is Will/Sonny, and they could eff that up if the whole Gabi is pregnant with Will’s baby rumor is true.

Thank God this is MAB’s last week on Y&R!

Don’t watch B&B and haven’t watched GH recently, can’t comment on these shows.

  • John

Read somewhere some time ago that the networks are micromanaging the daytime shows, so maybe there is something to the NBC thread on here. Started watching Y&R thus week after a four year sabbatical. Yikes! What’s up with all the blonds? And what did Phyllis do to her sexy strawberry hair??????

  • TimsDale4ever

I can’t wait until day after tommorrow when we can watch the first Y&R episode with the new EP and HW. I’m not expecting a massive change on the very first day, but you “should” be able to notice a difference in the style and flow of the show/conversations. THIS show MUST pick up the pace, as well as STOP telling the same stories over and over with the SAME characters. That is just plain stupid AND suicidal.

  • Annie

GH has been really good the past year. The only soap I still watch.

  • Chrisann D

MBMom, Hope all is well. Miss your comments.

GH is still my favorite soap BUT did anyone think it was strange that Anna just left Duke at her apartment with Luke and left for work? You would think after his big return she would want to stay and find out exactly what happened and just spend time with him. All in all loving GH.
