FOX has picked up six additional episodes of BEN AND KATE and nine additional episodes of THE MINDY PROJECT, bringing both new Tuesday night comedies to full-season orders, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“BEN AND KATE and THE MINDY PROJECT have everything we want to stand for in comedy: smart writing, hugely appealing casts and comedy that feels contemporary and real - which is why we’re confident they will continue to build on what is already an appointment comedy night for young, influential audiences on Tuesdays,” said Reilly.

In tomorrow’s all-new episode of BEN AND KATE, “The Fox Hunt,” airing Tuesday, Oct. 9, (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, BEN (Nat Faxon) and KATE (Dakota Johnson) discover an unopened envelope from 15 years ago that contains the yearly scavenger hunt their dad used to organize for them when they were kids. The find prompts them to complete the unfinished hunt, with BJ (Lucy Punch), TOMMY (Echo Kellum) and MADDIE’s (Maggie Elizabeth Jones) help, but raises old issues of sibling rivalry. Meanwhile, the scavenger hunt takes an unexpected detour when BJ enlists Kate to help get her belongings back from an old fling.

In the all-new “In The Club” episode of THE MINDY PROJECT airing Tuesday, Oct. 9 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), SHAUNA (Amanda Setton) takes the office to the hottest nightclub in town, where MINDY (Mindy Kaling) meets an unlikely suitor (guest star Tommy Dewey) who works as a lawyer for the New York Knicks. Meanwhile, DANNY (Chris Messina) hits the dance floor, JEREMY (Ed Weeks) hits on a bride-to-be, and MORGAN (guest star Ike Barinholtz) unexpectedly makes some extra cash as the club’s bathroom attendant. Season to date, THE MINDY PROJECT is the No. 1 new comedy among Adults 18-34.

From writer/executive producer Dana Fox (NEW GIRL, “What Happens in Vegas”) and executive producer/director Jake Kasdan (NEW GIRL, “Bad Teacher”), BEN AND KATE follows a pair of odd-couple siblings – one, an overly responsible single mom; the other, an exuberant dreamer – and their friends as they push each other out of their comfort zones and into real life.

BEN AND KATE is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Chernin Entertainment. The series is created and written by Dana Fox. The series is executive-produced by Fox, Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope and Jake Kasdan. “Like” BEN AND KATE on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/BenandKate. What?! Why? Now I’m assuming Bob’s Burgers gets one too…

  • Derek

That’s..surprising. All these pick-ups and none of the networks have done any cancellations. Why are they so scared to pull the plugs on some of these shows? We’re pretty aware of what shows will be gone on what networks, I’m just surprised they’re actually letting them air three episodes this year. Usually, I’m telling myself..”My God, it’s just the second episode, FOX?!..” New shows are kind of lame this year though..

  • postman

you got to be kiding watched both twice they are not getting better that brother on ben in kate is so annoying and mindy is not a lead actress on a show doesnt have enough personality to cary a show

  • jT

All this proves New girl is safe for 7+ plus seasons……NEXT UP: 2014 POST SUPERBOWL SLOT BABY!!!!!!!!

  • Sammie

I’m very surprised about this. What about The Goodwin Games? That pilot was great, I hope it gets aired.

  • iggy

Now I’m assuming Bob’s Burgers gets one too…

    Of course.

Why are they so scared to pull the plugs on some of these shows?

They didn’t order enough schedule spackle?

  • Rob R

FOX is seeing quality and potential and betting that the numbers will get better. Both of these shows are clearly above average, well written and performed.

  • badman

    FOX is soooooo desperate!!!!

  • hoki

Wow. I like both shows, but this is big surprise. This proves they are so desperate when they have to keep these two shows.

  • jT

@sammie something tells me raising hope may be on it’s way out………or pushed until into dead slots like breaking in.

  • Ryan

Personally; I don’t think the 2hr comedy line up is doing it for fox. They need a 1 Hr drama on those night as well; if they want to do 2 comedy blocks why not put some on Monday?

  • Hillbilly

Well i lost the poll on which show would get a pickup first. :???:

  • Hillbilly

If AppleStinx comes around he can ignore my comment above.

  • DM

Ben & Kate has surprised me at how much I’ve liked it. Some really solid writing.

  • ivan

This is a horrible decision i watch both shows and i dont like them at all and with this ratings they should be canceling them not giving them a full seasons when did fox become the cw and i’m not saying anything about the cw becpuse is my favourite tv I never liked Fox but it was always better then 1.6 for a show and this shows clearly will drop to maybe 1.3 or less by the end of the season are getting full seasons i’m so confused…

  • CrimTV

Take it The Goodwin Games will replace B&K in March/April then?

  • DamC

I guess Goodwin Games will take Ben and Kate’s timeslot starting February and Ben and Kate will end its run at 8 while Raising Hope is on hiatus

  • Cory

Seems a bit premature, but I’ll take it, as Ben and Kate is my favorite new show of the season. Mindy is kinda blah, but I’ll stick with it a little while longer.

  • The Hafk

These are definitely their best new shows this year. Glad to see Fox taking a risk on them hoping their numbers go up.

I hope Bob’s Burgers, their best returning show this year, is next.

  • Daw Johnson

Ben and Kate is the best new comedy of the season and third in overall quality only to Last Resort and Nashville. And, since it’s accessible (anyone can start watching this at any time), it’s worth keeping in an attempt to locate an audience.

After all, with Raising Hope posting 1.7s as a lead-in, it is not as if that 8:30PM slot is tailormade for launching a big new hit anyway.
