FOX PICKS UP TWO FOR TUESDAY!

NETWORK GIVES FULL-SEASON ORDERS TO NEW COMEDIES

Ben And Kate” AND “The Mindy Project

FOX has picked up six additional episodes of Ben And Kate and nine additional episodes of The Mindy Project, bringing both new Tuesday night comedies to full-season orders, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

Ben And Kate and The Mindy Project have everything we want to stand for in comedy: smart writing, hugely appealing casts and comedy that feels contemporary and real - which is why we’re confident they will continue to build on what is already an appointment comedy night for young, influential audiences on Tuesdays,” said Reilly.

In tomorrow’s all-new episode of Ben And Kate, “The Fox Hunt,” airing Tuesday, Oct. 9, (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, BEN (Nat Faxon) and KATE (Dakota Johnson) discover an unopened envelope from 15 years ago that contains the yearly scavenger hunt their dad used to organize for them when they were kids. The find prompts them to complete the unfinished hunt, with BJ (Lucy Punch), TOMMY (Echo Kellum) and MADDIE’s (Maggie Elizabeth Jones) help, but raises old issues of sibling rivalry. Meanwhile, the scavenger hunt takes an unexpected detour when BJ enlists Kate to help get her belongings back from an old fling.

In the all-new “In The Club” episode of The Mindy Project airing Tuesday, Oct. 9 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), SHAUNA (Amanda Setton) takes The Office to the hottest nightclub in town, where MINDY (Mindy Kaling) meets an unlikely suitor (guest star Tommy Dewey) who works as a lawyer for the New York Knicks. Meanwhile, DANNY (Chris Messina) hits the dance floor, JEREMY (Ed Weeks) hits on a bride-to-be, and MORGAN (guest star Ike Barinholtz) unexpectedly makes some extra cash as the club’s bathroom attendant. Season to date, The Mindy Project is the No. 1 new comedy among Adults 18-34.

From writer/executive producer Dana Fox (New Girl, “What Happens in Vegas”) and executive producer/director Jake Kasdan (New Girl, “Bad Teacher”), BEN AND KATE follows a pair of odd-couple siblings – one, an overly responsible single mom; the other, an exuberant dreamer – and their friends as they push each other out of their comfort zones and into real life.

and i thought nbc renewed the new normal too early…

  • Alan

This was a huge mistake. I wouldn’t be shocked if Mob Doctor gets a full season soon.

  • Bookworm

Do they know something we don’t?

  • The End

    @Bookworm

Perhaps, maybe they’l shove a 6th season of Fringe with these full season orders. To redeem themselves?

  • LaLa

By no means are these two series HUGE success stories..but FOX can’t cancel everything on there schedule. At least let these series continue for a full season. Why not. Its not like FOX has anything else to replace them with.

  • Networkman

I’m glad that FOX is committed to their scripted sitcoms. But if they are really serious about them being successful/building an audience they are going to have to start moving them to other nights.

Do they know something we don’t?

Apparently. FOX knows that they have to fill up their schedule through May, something that is lost on most people here.

  • Dan S

What a pleasant surprise especially for B&K less so for TMP. At least the nets aren’t too quick to pull the trigger on shows that may take awhile to find an audience. Still betting Mob Dr will sleep with the fishes after tonight when it goes below 1.0

  • Greg

The Mindy Project is the only new show I added to my own schedule, so… YAY!

  • cas127

    Ugh.

    Blech.

Of course – but there are always test patterns…

I think its a matter of opinion. I think Ben and Kate is really funny. The 2nd epi imo was better. Sometimes shows take time to find an audience. We have only had 2 shows air!! I dont think it would be fair to pull the plug based on two episodes. I am going back in time but the first year Full House ran it brought in horrible ratings to the point that it was on its way out after season 1. The network decided to stick with it and for 8 yrs it turned into their little goldmine! I am not saying these new comedies will do that. But obviously fox sees potential. And right now it seems as though more pdople are watching shows on dvr/itunes or on demand then live. People dont sit in like they used to and watch tv.

  • Kaylie

I love all the comedies except Mindy Project.

  • Networkman

New Girl has the chance of constantly garnering over 3.0 demo if it is placed behind American Idol. The Office is no longer any serious threat. The Animated shows The Simpsons and Family Guy get great demos. Raising Hope and Ben & Kate should be tried on Sunday Night following these programs to help improve their demos/viewership.

  • SJ

Don’t get me wrong, Ben & Kate is great, but it doesn’t deserve the additional episode pick-up. Well, as a fan of the show, I guess I’ll just be glad that Fox has stooped this low.

  • Joy

I agree sometimes switching nights helps in the demos.

  • jT

New girl is fine were it is. The show just needs to holdout until it gets the post superbowl slot. And it will only be in it’s THIRD SEASON BY THEN HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

  • Ram510

    Fox is in trouble

  • Ram510

This is just a terrible season across the board for everybody

    Better luck next year

  • JANET

OMG BRING THE CABLE UPDATES PLEASE!
