FOX has picked up six additional episodes of BEN AND KATE and nine additional episodes of THE MINDY PROJECT, bringing both new Tuesday night comedies to full-season orders, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“BEN AND KATE and THE MINDY PROJECT have everything we want to stand for in comedy: smart writing, hugely appealing casts and comedy that feels contemporary and real - which is why we’re confident they will continue to build on what is already an appointment comedy night for young, influential audiences on Tuesdays,” said Reilly.

In tomorrow’s all-new episode of BEN AND KATE, “The Fox Hunt,” airing Tuesday, Oct. 9, (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, BEN (Nat Faxon) and KATE (Dakota Johnson) discover an unopened envelope from 15 years ago that contains the yearly scavenger hunt their dad used to organize for them when they were kids. The find prompts them to complete the unfinished hunt, with BJ (Lucy Punch), TOMMY (Echo Kellum) and MADDIE’s (Maggie Elizabeth Jones) help, but raises old issues of sibling rivalry. Meanwhile, the scavenger hunt takes an unexpected detour when BJ enlists Kate to help get her belongings back from an old fling.

In the all-new “In The Club” episode of THE MINDY PROJECT airing Tuesday, Oct. 9 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), SHAUNA (Amanda Setton) takes the office to the hottest nightclub in town, where MINDY (Mindy Kaling) meets an unlikely suitor (guest star Tommy Dewey) who works as a lawyer for the New York Knicks. Meanwhile, DANNY (Chris Messina) hits the dance floor, JEREMY (Ed Weeks) hits on a bride-to-be, and MORGAN (guest star Ike Barinholtz) unexpectedly makes some extra cash as the club’s bathroom attendant. Season to date, THE MINDY PROJECT is the No. 1 new comedy among Adults 18-34.

From writer/executive producer Dana Fox (NEW GIRL, “What Happens in Vegas”) and executive producer/director Jake Kasdan (NEW GIRL, “Bad Teacher”), BEN AND KATE follows a pair of odd-couple siblings – one, an overly responsible single mom; the other, an exuberant dreamer – and their friends as they push each other out of their comfort zones and into real life.

The series is executive-produced by Fox, Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope and Jake Kasdan. “Like” BEN AND KATE on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/BenandKate. That being said……………i could see fox moving new girl to 8pm mondays after the superbowl to destroy an x-tina less voice.

The Voice would have to crash really hard to stoop to New Girl levels, much less levels where it’s being “destroy”ed.

    FOX ideal Spring Schedule:
    Monday:Bones/The Following
Tuesday:Glee/Ben & Kate/Raising Hope (Goodwin Games takes B&K timeslot when its done)
    Wednesday:American Idol
    Thursday:American Idol/The Mindy Project/New Girl
Friday:Whatever Gordon Ramsey show is ready to air/Touch

by moving Glee back to Teusdays it gives Ben & Kate a steady lead in and putting Mindy and New Girl after idol will only help them in viewership and demo. If fox is serious about building audiences for these new shows this is what needs to be done.

  • Nick

Good that we’re getting extra B&K episodes, but it feels like Fox is just filling the spot intil The Goodwin Games is ready.

  • Matthew

Well if they were going to keep the comedy block throughout the entire season one of them was going to have to have a full season pick-up and I guess they decided to pick-up both of them they can air The Goodwin Games after a 90 minute American Idol on Thursdays to pick up an audience.

AppleStinx – I think it has become charitable to ignore your posts containing the word “poll” or “bet”. Either that or ignore your credibility when it comes to predictions. I’ll do the latter and read about your latest by-the-numbers mishap.

I’m telling Sicilian Papa your picking on me.

I called this…. everyone knows that I called this…. many times.

FOX really wants a comedy block…. and the 18-34 numbers for these shows (esp dvr plus 3) is really , really incredible. FOX is letting this one grow because they see quality. Because there IS quality is each and everyone of these shows.

  • WoWza

    Quality and they youngsters ;)

  • WoWza

Because of FOX – TVBYTN you need to take into account 18-34…. because I know …. for a fact…. that FOX does….

  • jT

@nick read previous post about it getting the post superbowl slot.

  • a p garcia

I think FOX should have uncanceled Terra Nova instead of these 2 losers.

  • tv#1

Great news for Ben and Kate fans. I love that show. This and Go On are the best two new comedies of the fall season.

“I think FOX should have uncanceled Terra Nova instead of these 2 losers.”

Yes, because I’m sure everyone associated with that series is just sitting around waiting for that to happen.

  • Chicago Fire this Wednesday on NBC

FOX is really becoming the next NBC while NBC seems to be slowly replacing them.

This is probably the worst full season orders you’re going to see this whole season outside of The New Normal.

  • David

That’s the dumbest thing I have ever heard! They can’t give these shows a full season. Their ratings are horrible and look like they will not get any better.

  • ann

    With those ratings!?!

  • Emily

well its not 2 “full” season order, more like 1 3/4 season orders, I wonder if they’ll leave ben and kate with 19 episodes, or if the ratings get better, extend it to 22/24

  • Emily

@chicagofire fox has always had some pretty dismal ratings for dramas, except they’ve always had american idol, or house, or some really big show to pump their ratings ups, so really although they’re average is high, the 2’s aren’t awful for them, although this is the first year (yet) they don’t have something really big to push their ratings up

  • Joseph

I’m watching both shows. I still don’t get Ben & Kate but still watching it. On the other hand, The Mindy Project exceeded my expectations, i’m loving it. It was surprising to find out they got a full season order. Because of their ratings i thought they would be gone by the end of october, so i’m happy.

  • Joe

“I know Fox’s comedy block is a monster in 18-34 but is that enough to renew these shows with those numbers?”

If that’s true then yes, absolutely. 18-34 is just as important as 18-49…it’s just not as released so we talk about it less.
