Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

If you’re correct about The Good Wife and The Mentalist ratings, it means that CSI:NY and Blue Bloods will be way below 1.0 this spring, maybe at or below CW levels. If The Good Wife and The Mentalist get the axe, I assume at least CSI:NY (Blue Bloods is nearing syndication) will get it too. And don’t forget Hawaii 5-0, which is already below 2.0 too, or Vegas which seems to ake the same way. Could you see CBS canceling so many high profile shows at the same time ? I don’t know, but CBS sure has a tough season ahead of them !
As for justifying the return of a show, think about what FOX did with Fringe, or what NBC did with Chuck. I think it’s a little too early to rule out any of those shows, except CSI:NY which has become pitiful.

  • FOX.

LMAO @ the ratings for 666. That’s what the GG producers get for screwing up that show. No one will ever watch one of their shows again.

  • MoHasanie

Nashville better premiere well, or this season will be very horrible for ABC. I’m really getting tired of seeing all those promo’s for it as well.

  • Dan

@Bookworm – For CBS sunday is not for new series, Friday is better for new dramas even though Made in Jersey is tanking. Sundays is where older dramas facing syndication goes like CSI Miami, The Mentalist, The Good Wife.

  • Oda

I can’t believe how The Mentalist went from being one on the top CBS programs two years ago, to now being a bottomfeeder. Oh how the tides have turned on this five seasons of the same tired plot.

Scandal has a 13 episode season so come January, it’s finished for the season and I think Shonda and ABC agreed that was what it was. I saw an Interview from Shonda stating that she wanted to keep the season short and liked the Cable feel of it all –which I why I thought it would have been perfect on Cable, especially USA.

But A new show will premiere in Grey’s slot once Scandals season is done and if that show does better than Scandal, I would say I might be worried and Scandal will get a new night for sure but if it stays the same or tanks, I think Scandal has a better chance of coming back in that same time slot.

I’m optimistic. I think Revenge is a great show but I do believe Scandal is little better. Ratings be damned.

    i was right yesterday

I am predicting the ratings for The Mentalist are going to low tomorrow. This show was losing viewers last year with the constant Red John themes after the storyline should have been ended, and after tonight’s weird show they will have lost many more viewers.

This is sad because it used to be a great show, and had the perfect ending for the Red John storyline, with a great actor playing Red John. It fit the story line, and the Law and The Mentalist chasing Red John could make mistakes and keep going, but if Red John ever made a mistake or miscalculation – that would be the end of him. Then the writers ran out of ideas and kept the Red John storyline going, very bad.

The writers clearly ran out of ideas and gave up last year, and this year the show has been horrible. They should not even been calling it the The Mentalist anymore, it is nothing like the show it once was.

I predict the ratings will keep falling and it will be canceled by CBS

The Good Wife never should have left Tuesday’s at 10PM. It didn’t do GREAT behind NCIS: LA but it was pretty solid and everything since it has moved has failed in that slot.

Good to see American Dad and Family Guy up from last week. Family Guy and The Simpsons still the topped rated scripted shows on Fox.. pretty sad. Btw, is it just me or does Fox not have ads for animation domination during the week? Also a 2.2 for The Cleveland Show at 7:30 is pretty good. I’m still shocked it hasn’t been renewed.

  • Dean-W

I hope The Mentalist is not in danger because of its 1.6. After all CBS had decided to air a new episode at 10:30PM.

  • Jupiter

Revenge is going to increase to a 3.0 before October’s end, and by December it will have a 3.6!

I know for certain that people are just not sure of what they’re missing. Wait and you’ll see that everyone is going to understand! Before the year’s end it will emerge from the ashes and become the phoenix it was destined to be!

  • tara

CBS sports made a difference in the ratings. A lot of people seem to watch CBS NFL and didn`t change the channel. I mean look at the 3,8 for 60minutes. Was it ever that high? It did hurt ONCE. The half hour numbers for Once proved that, 60minutes ended and viewers switched to ABC. Kinda interesting!! Is next week sports on CBS again?

  • Alley Car

Revenge is always in the top 5 on ITunes downloads and gets major playback from DVR’s… now I know that doesnt count for some unknown reason but ABC isnt pulling the plug on Revenge anytime soon

  • Bookworm

I’m sure you are right but I don’t think moving The Mentalist was a good idea at the end of the day. Elementary could have been put some where else, probably not on Sundays like you said, but definitely in a time slot where the Mentalist didn’t have to move. The show tanked because of it. I really did like the POI and The Mentalist combo for CBS.

  • Lynn

I really hope that if it comes down to the wire between renewing 666 or Last Resort, Last Resort gets renewed. Next season I would really like to see a three drama block of Last Resort, Marvel’s SHIELD, and Castle!!

  • Spencer

It seems like almost EVERY show took dives town. And it seems like ALL shows premiering this season have been down. So maybe some of these low #’s is the new average compared to past seasons…

  • June

So glad that CBS dumped The Mentalist in their deathslot! Maybe now The Good Wife’s ratings will look like a keeper to them!

  • Ryan

@tara- Football was also on NBC though and it was on last week as well.

  • Alley Car

Most my friends watch Revenge on Hulu or iTunes

  • Dinaminjo

I know people love their shows, but no way a show is going to keep its slot behind a “blockbuster” just for you..

If a show can’t hold on its own (h5o, tgw, mentalist) it’s not going to last forever..
