With only a 13 episode order for this season, and the lowest ratings of all ABC dramas so far, the writing is on the wall for Private Practice. Even though it hasn't been announced as its final season, it's more likely to be canceled than renewed.

666 Park Avenue's results in its second episode drop it into the "certain to be canceled" range, while Last Resort will stay in the "likely to be canceled" category, for now. The non surprising drop in The Neighbors second episode ratings has it down to "toss up" for renewal or cancellation. Unclear how long it will stay there.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I have a feeling if 666 Park Avenue gets canceled before the order round of more episodes then the show “Mistresses” will be replacing it.

  • Kim

    What’s the deal with Castle?

  • Darcy

I guess ABC should have given GCB a second shot. Wouldn’t that have worked so well as an end of night comedy on Sundays? Even if it was for mid-season! It wouldn’t be doing worse than 666PA, in fact Revenge definitely would’ve boosted it. Big mistake, ABC. Huge!

  • Kie

Last Resort should be given a full season and when Private Practice ends its 13-ep order, Last Resort should move to that timeslot (and promote it!) and see what happens.

Ultimately, Last Resort should have been in the Tuesday 10/9c timeslot all along, and Private Practice should have been moved to midseason, but alas…stupid ABC.

  • The Other Tony

CCB — I actually meant that ABC could have tried Castle out at 8pm on Thursdays (and kept Scandal slotted after GA). The 8pm Thursday slot is just WAAAAYYY too early in the evening for a show like Last Resort.

My main problem with 666 Park Avenue, creatively, is that too many of the younger characters are indistinguishable from each other — and there is no overriding supernatural-oriented mystery/’WTF moment’ that’s grabbed my attention. Terry O’Quinn and Vanessa Williams are fantastic, though. The writers need to do more with that younger black girl who gets premonitions.

  • The Other Tony

Darcy — I’m not sure Revenge and GCB would have gone well together, either. Revenge should probably be paired with a show like Nashville in a 9pm/10pm drama block.

  • gerry

@ kie – i could not agree with you more. last resort 10 tuesday makes so much sense, and WOULD have made sense. we’ll see what happens.

  • Mike

666 park ave was great this past week. It needs a different slot.

  • Andrea

I still think Castle will be back for a 6th season. It’s still doing well when you look at other ABC shows. . Castle and Scandal are in the same boat- they have similar ratings, but Castle keeps most of it’s audiance from DWTS while Scandle loses it’s nice lead in. I’m sure we’ll have to listen to people talk about Castle and/or Scandal being cancelled all year.

  • omabin

What ABC schedule should be in spring:

(Assuming that they stick with the 3 hours of DWTS, which is a colossal mistake, it should be reduced to 2 immediately and that 666 Park Avenue cannot survive past January:

    Monday
    DWTS
    DWTS
    Castle

Tuesday (Last Resort deserves a real shot if its numbers manage to hold)
DWTS Results (with Zero Hours during seasons)
    Happy Endings
    Apartment 23
    Last Resort

Wednesday (sort of random, but worth a try. even if the timeslot gets worse than with nasville, i would think nashville gains following ga will outeight scandal’s loss with this move)
    The Middle
How to Live with Your Parents
    Modern Family
    Suburgatory
    Scandal

    Thursday
Body of Proof (I seriously dont see what else to put here. And there is no other procedural on the air at this time, so why not try it?)
    Grey’s Anatomy
    Nashville

Friday (The comedies should be swapped among each other and also, should air at 9 to avoid messing with Shark Tank good results)
    Shark Tank
    Malibu Country
    Last Man Standing
    20/20

Sunday (I dont think Red Widow looks promising, but I think it could fit with Revenge… The other option is trying Scandal here and Red Widow on Wednesdays, but this might be better, unsure)
    Once Upon a Time
    Revenge
    Red Widow

  • Match

ABC is in a pickle, so many show fail to deliver. Last season was so much better not just for them but for the other networks as well. This is what i through the schedule should be for ABC this season, maybe it would have delivered better ratings, who knows.

    Sunday
    08:00 Once Upon a Time
    09:00 Revenge
    10:00 666 Park Avenue

    Monday
    08:00 Dancing with the Stars
    10:00 Nashville

    Tuesday
08:00 Dancing with the Stars: Result show
    09:00 Last Resort
    10:00 Castle

    Wednesday
    08:00 The Middle
    08:30 Suburgatory
    09:00 Modern Family
09:30 How to Live with Your Parents
    10:00 Private Practice

    Thursday
    08:00 Scandal
    09:00 Grey’s Anatomy
    10:00 Mistresses

The only way i see Dancing with the Stars getting better ratings is by making an extreme makeover. To new hosts, Tom Bergeron won his Emmy witch was like a lifetime award. Four new judges who can judge better and more realistic and not give points just like that. And better contestants a head of anything.

  • omabin

I kind of like your schedule, but I love my Tuesday comedies too much to just remove them from the schedule.

  • JJF

Castle’s numbers aren’t great but the “it’s gonna be cancelled” crowd has been cheering that for over 4 seasons now. It’s likely closer to the end than the beginning now, but it’s still one of ABC’s better overall performers. (Despite the negative spin many try to put on it.) I think Castle’s probably safe until ABC finds some more hits. So far, 1 of it’s new drama arrivals is essentially doomed. 1 is one step away from being doomed. The other is “meh” on arrival. Do we really think any of these three are likely to survive the season?

Now if something takes off midseason, that could change things. But again, not exactly a promising bunch. With Private Practice likely toast as well, I am not sure ABC would really want to cancel another popular returning drama this season.

  • Mark

Not sure how long fresh stories can be generated for The Neighbors, but this show cracks us up. Hopefully it can have a full season plus a renewal.

  • Tim

    @Mark

I completely agree. The actors are hilarious, and I love the show and the storylines are great (my favorite is Jacks Joyner-Kersee)

All I want is a full first season and a 11-13 episode 2nd season.

  • Tim

Jackie, autocorrect is the worst invention.

  • Donna C

Depressing to me Last Resort’s numbers are so low. This is easily one of my favorite shows on network TV, esp. after the recent ep. No one’s watching. I remember another great show with Andre Braugher no one watched … how I miss Homicide: Life on the Street.

  • Lily

SERIOUSLY? Last Resort is facing cancellation and REVOLUTION has already been renewed? How do these people get hired and how do they keep their jobs because this is just.. I can’t. I give up.

  • Margs

I find PP to be way better than Greys & will be sad to see it end!

  • Gambler777

It will suck if they boot ’666 Park Avenue’ already, give the story a chance to get going. Give it a better timeslot as well.
