Yesterday's news that The Mindy Project and Ben And Kate both received full season orders doesn't change the Cancellation Bear's opinions of them, either or both could still be canceled at the end of the season (although at this point The Mindy Project doesn't seem to be in danger).

The observant will note that Raising Hope is predicted as "likely renewed" even with its somewhat weak premiere ratings. While the syndication gods ruling Fox aren't quite as predictable as those ruling CBS, it will take a ratings cataclysm for the show not to return for a fourth season. It would've gone in the headline this week if not for the news above. Look for it next week.

Fox's The Mob Doctor is still certain to be canceled no matter how many new actors they sign up for episodes that may never air. I'm guessing that last night's episode is the final one we will see in its original timeslot.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

They even mentioned in that article that a FOX spokesperson thinks Mob Doctor could last longer than Animal Practice, and the cast of Mob Doctor cancelled vacation plans because they were almost sure theyd be out of work!

  • Dan

Just realized that now but I wouldn’t be surprised if thats what’s really going on behind the scenes.

I’m only watching Fringe on Fox this season, so I don’t care what the rest of their crap does. And Fringe has jumped the shark, so the whole season on Fox is a total loss.

Fox used to be the network with interesting genre shows. This season – not a one.

does baseball start next week? if so I can imagine fox holding off on cancelling it, just to save the bad PR for first show cancelled (seriously what is up with the nets this year? like why isn’t anything cancelled yet?) but after baseball I can imagine it just disappearing off the schedule

  • Phil

Why the hell would anyone be thinking of next season now? Even the long-term finance guys don’t know what shows will be back. Believe it or not, some shows get watched more later in the season and some don’t. And shows aren’t renewed entirely by ratings. Networks know better that a point here and there is the matter of a single Nielsen family and not always representative of 1000s.

  • Phil

    MacFarlane, not McFarland. sigh.

  • Riff Rafferty

Oh, “The Mob Doctor” and “The Vanity Project” aren’t doing so well, huh? Maybe FOX should merge them together to create one exciting, laugh-packed and brutally-violent dramedy….

    The MOB/GYN

“Yo, nurse b!tch, what’s dat stench? Did sumtin’ die in here? Oh ‘ey, ‘ey, oh, I heard-a sleepin’ wit’ da fishes but dis is ridiculous! Alright, you dirty, dirty rat, let’s get in dere and see what’s goin’ on. Whoa, it’s like-a lookin’ at two giant slices o’ gabbaghoul! Am I right?! FUHGETABOUDIT!”

  • CalinCT

Mob Doctor wasn’t going anywhere until the MLB playoffs start(ed) on FOX. There’s no reason to bring in a new show, in that time slot, for one or two eps and have it lose momentum with the baseball break. Depending on how the NLCS and WS go, there’s potentially baseball on the 15th, the 22nd, and the 29th.

I’d bet we hear something within the next couple weeks. At least for now, there’s no real reason to announce anything going into next week…because they KNOW the NLCS is going to be on in prime time. That doesn’t mean they won’t..but they don’t necessarily need to.

The Mindy Poject: I have never seen a worse TV show. Ever.

They can’t act and the writing is atrocious and the characters are not likable.

  • Mindy Project Cancelled

I hope The Mindy Project gets cancelled. Hate that show.

  • Joseph

Well I hope it gets renewed for a 2nd season. The show is getting better, last episode was hilarious!

  • JohnnyRico

I like all 4 of these shows. I am really glad Fox are really seeing this out I feel like all 3 of the shows have a kind of broad appeal to be hits. As it is if RH gets to 88 episodes I full excpect this to be the type of show that is a constant in syndication for years to come.

  • YeahYou

The Mindy Project is the worse pile of hot garbage I’ve ever seen. Only 300 pound trailer trash women would like it.

  • KJ Styles

I’m surprised they gave full season orders to B&K and Mindy being that they still have The Goodwin Games to air this season. I don’t see any other night that they could possibly air it.

  • Joao

    Fox’s comedy!!!!

  • Honey Badger

The X Factor is a very expensive show with the judges and Simon’s salary.
    Britney Spears’ $15 Million
Simon Cowell $75 million a season payday
At what ratings does this show become unprofitable?

    Bad for Fox

  • Sammy01

Not sure why we have to go through the ‘Bones will get moved to Friday next year’ posts week in week out, year after year. That train of thought might be more viable if Fox wasn’t struggling and had Monday’s to fill for the next couple of years. Given the competition on Monday at 8 and 9, premiering a new drama and it not being eaten alive are looking very very slim. They aren’t going to put X factor or Idol against that competition either. Moving Bones to Friday would be taking the only show Fox has right now that can pull 2’s on Monday away from Monday, just not going to happen.

Right now Bones will continue to air for as many seasons as Fox can get out of it on Mondays, as there realistically just isn’t anything Fox can put there that wont be slaughtered or killed before it starts as new show (a la Mob Doctor).

  • joss

FRINGE, Family Guy and American dad

  • Kyle

I can live without Mob doctor. Mindy project is a no go because of the voice 2 mins was enough of that. I like BK but yeah there new shows have something to desire.
