@Scrootie But W&G was HORRIBLE in it’s first year. Sometimes it takes awhile for a show to adjust.

“They really want to kill 2BG” If CBS wanted to kill it, they would not have move it to the 9pm timeslot but on Sunday or Friday. Clearly CBS thought that 2BG was strong enough to take over the timeslot that saw Two and a Half men dominate for so long. Maybe CBS was just wrong in thinking 2BG could dominate that timeslot but I doubt Partners is taking down 2BG. What is taking 2BG down is more likely The Voice, I am sure those two shows share audience and 2BG gets DVR over The Voice.

I think Revolution and H50 are obviously figting for the same viewers. I

I am a Castle fan so my opinion is skewed, everyone says to look at the ABC competition as opposed to other networks. I do this weekly and Castle has the most viewers and has been 2nd or 3rd each week this season. I have zero worries about a season 6. Finish off then while it is still creatively fresh and they have the cast on their original contracts. Perfect way to go out.

Wow, great job for The Voice!!

@Chris – Two and a Half Men was aging. It was risky but its move was necessary to ensure that Person of Interest got a good lead in and it was to see if CBS Mondays could hold up without it. Its holding up OK and it doesnt help that The Voice is crushing it. You may not have noticed this but CBS over the years has moved all of its aging dramas to other slots (CSI, CSI NY, CSI Miami) Two and a Half Men got that same treatment this year. Creatively all monday shows are fine, Partners may be the only exception.

@Eddy – I agree about Partners staying put but I don’t think Mike & Molly will move anywhere, its doing fine in its slot. Rules would benefit from the 8:30 slot.

A 3 million drop is really not bad, compared to past seasons, when DWTS had 16-17 million viewers and Castle had the same number of viewers as now, give or take 0.5 million. So yes, for a show in its 5th season, in a slot that was “cursed” for years prior to its premier, with a lead-in that has aproximately the same ratings, on a day with moderate-high competition, Castle is doing better than most 10PM ABC Shows. Private Practice is decidedly doing worse, Scandal has Grey’s Anatomy as a lead-in and still in its second season and yet it has pretty much the same ratings as Castle, 666 Park Avenue has half the viewers and a 1.7 demo after just a couple of episodes. By canceling Castle, they could either risk ruining an established show by moving it in the time slot(because usually, that’s what happens in that time slot) or try out a new show which has an even smaller chance of succeeding. With Castle they have steadiness, syndication, and since the only reason it used to decline in ratings mid-season was because of the lead-in change( The Bachelor had lower ratings than DWTS back than)and now both lead-ins have roughly the same ratings, it will probably keep stable throughout the season.

@Kyle…saying that if DWTS was getting better ratings, Castle would be getting better ratings is suggesting that Castle is lead-in dependent…that isn’t a good thing. However, the L+3 numbers suggest a decent chunk of Castle viewers have moved to DVR. Unfortunately, advertisers don’t care so much for DVR ratings. Castle is safe this season (figure ABC wants 100 episodes) but next season, not so much

@thesnowleopard Actually GG had high ratings at the beginning of Seaason 2. Check Wikipedia

Again – excellent. I can agree with your EVERY word. Dennings&Behrs are like Caviezel&Emerson in my eyes. I think because great chemistry in both shows they are so HUGE hits and BEST CBS shows. Of course they are both unique, best scripted and 2BG is really funny. Funny all over the world. some US hit sitcoms like MF are not funny in Europe. But 2BG is my favorite. Greetings for you.

I live in NJ and my cable service is in a feud with CW, and it has not been on the air for at least a month probably more. Cablevision has a pretty big customer base. Could this effect the ratings at all? I doubt it could that much but this is a pretty big market.

  • Kyle

How is Castle lead dependent? Never said though. Obviously Castle has been around the 10million mark for viewers for the last 4 seasons. It has a loyal fan base. I am just pointing out an example. Castle is doing fine this season. I was just saying IF DWTS was stronger Castle would be stronger as well. That’s EVERY show who has a great lead in. Revolution is lead dependent, Go On was lead dependent.

  • Danny

whats up with all the Castle hate? people like it way more than Revolution and H50….ABC couldn’t find a better replacement to do better…the only reason why Revolution has a higher demo rating is because people leave while the show is on and they go take out the garbage or whatnot and forget to change the channel during a commercial break. And look at Castle’s DVR playbacks, holy crap! it kills it..so keep on hating…..demo ratings are so pathetic!

  • Dan

Castle retaining all of its DWTS lead in makes it in no danger.

  • SeawayOutset

Wow Chris, would you like to point out on a doll where Castle touched you at? Your hate for Castle is beyond anything rational. I don’t even watch Castle, yet you have to respect that it managed to beat/tie it’s lead in.

Not to mention every single show that isn’t “The Voice” is trending down this year, yet you jump on Castle? Can’t tell if you are a troll grasping at straws, or if you seriously have no idea what you’re talking about.

  • Grey

Yay. No downward adjustment for “Castle.” And as for it being down from last year this time, TV in general, across the boards, is down. I think there’s an article here about that, isn’t there? So it all comes out in the wash.

  • Match

Finally no adjustment down for Castle, and it was even adjusted up in total viewers. :)

  • j

In terms of Revolution vs. Smash: Smash hit a 3 once (and 2.5 two more times); Revolution already has 4 3’s.

And that’s despite declining ratings for Voice. So Revolution has stronger numbers with a weaker lead-in. It’s not Smash.

  • Chris

@Andrea–regardless of whether its competition is also down, Castle isn’t going to get a free ride forever. I’m not FOR those other two shows–don’t watch them. But Castle is the oldest of the three, the most-supported across its run, and is well down from last season. If it keeps dropping this way, it will go below the point of no return, this season or next. So to say it’s holding up is just wrong. It’s falling, hard. And for the same reason as the other two shows–people are losing interest. :)

  • SMG4E

I bet The CW wishes they renewed RINGER now. That network makes stupid decision after stupid decision after stupid decision.

  • Chris

@Seaway–seems like you’re the one with the persecution complex. It’s just a show, and we’re here to discuss ratings. What do you want to discuss–macrame? :D
