The adults 18-49 ratings for NBC scripted rookie darling Revolution keep falling week to week [4.2, 3.4, 3.2, 3.0] which causes some of our commenters to predict its demise. However, because NBC's scripted ratings are otherwise so completely woeful (only 2 other shows broke a 2.0 rating last week, and one is in its final season), Revolution ratings can still fall a very long way before it's in danger of becoming a meal for the Cancellation Bear.

How low? If the season stopped today, NBC would certainly be renewing scripted shows averaging a 1.7 rating, and maybe a 1.6. Will Revolution ratings fall that far? Never say never.

And for commenters who'll cry foul at Revolution's "retention", don't bring that Retentionista nonsense around here.

Up All Night and Animal Practice ratings aren't falling every week, but are already so low as to make them both likely to be canceled.

Where's the bear? He's not just in the NBC post this season, he's moving around!

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ie. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Revolution isn’t that bad. Sci-fi/Fantasy types are very hard to pull off on TV and film. A few minor issues with acting/set/costume, but overall a decent watch. Like most of the genre good storyline so far.

Grimm has been another good season IMO. Not sure what other people think, but it’s a great show for me.

  • Erin

I loved Terra Nova and was very upset that it was cancelled without finding out the rest of the story and REALLY hope they don’t do that with Revolution since I am really enjoying it too. Its very rare these days that I even bother to watch TV due to all the so called “reality” crap. TV needs more shows like Terra Nova and Revolution.

  • Cindy Salt

I like Revolution. It is acted well. Love Billy Burke.
And maybe people should not have such short attention spans. It will unfold and it is a good show.

you guys are so negative, its funny.

  • Cindy Salt

This is a great show. People have a short attention span. let the story unfold. Love Billy Burke and the girl that plays Charlie.
    It is not Science Fiction.

You guys are so negative its funny.

My mid-season NBC fantasy schedule (this is by far the trickiest to do as they have an insane amount of shows yet to premiere):

    Monday (Just let it be)
    The Voice
    The Voice
    Revolution

Tuesday (Do not take the lead-in out of Go On, but use it also for the most promising mid-season comedy they have and try to use Go On for their most promising mid-season drama in a not very competitive timeslot)
    The Voice
    1600 Penn
    Go On
    Infamous

Wednesday (sort of revamp it…In any case, Whithney should be back there during fall already, so if this doesn’t work, just have biggest looser last 3 hours. I think this is a good spot for Hannibal, and a revamped, after a season-break biggest looser should be okayish as lead-in)
    Whitney
    Guys with Kids
    The Biggest Looser
    Hannibal

Thursday (just give up on the 8pm hour for the time being. Fox and CBS really own the hour, so ABC and NBC have to suck it up and put cheap filler there for now. Use the Office to launch your other mid-season comedy as it is likely to pick up on the final episodes)
    The Apprentice
    The Office
    Save Me
    Smash

Friday (Community is quite possibly my favorite comedy on television so I hate it on fridays as much as anyone else, but I dont see where else it should go. An who know, if it does higher than 1 on Friday might be enough to get it renewed… I dont watch Parks, but the same applies)
    Parks and Recreation
    Community
    Grimm
    Dateline

Sunday (its unconventional I know. And probably would end up being SVU rather than Chicago Fire here, but Off their rockers had some steam (for NCB levels) las spring and there are no comedies besides the fox animation on sunday, so new normal might do okayish. I dont think do no harm will work but this seems a good spot as any to try it. Also, they have to avoid premiering hannibal and do no harm on the same night, which is why i moved the current wednesday drama to sunday
    Off Their Rockers
    The New Normal
    Chicago Fire
    Do No Harm

I have canceled Animal Practice and Up All Night. I am also not including SVU. It may seem like crazy but I dont think the show should be extended. I am sure it is crazily expensive by now and if Chicago Fire pulls results that only slighly lower, NBC’s profit is likely higher.

  • Petar Ivanov

Revolution will be ONLY ONE show that hit 3s these season at 10 pm. All season long. Unique record i think. Pretty impressive.

  • Cody

As long as Revolution isn’t too expensive to make, it should make it to a Season 2.

  • luisl

Chicago Fire is a flop. 1.9 got the season premiere.

I hope this can help Revolution.

  • omar

Revolution will renewed bec. it’s not another tera nova revolution cost nothing while tera nova cost more than alot

  • omar

go on will renewed to next 3-4 season it’s new hit sries and funny enough espicialy 30 rock and the office there last season so go on and revoluton &grimm in safe room

  • Leoben Conoy

    Revolution is awful.

Worst show to air on tv since The Event.

I look forward to watching the ratings drop week after week.

And yes, I am still watching it.

I do my own Mystery Sciene Theater 3000 to it when I watch. It makes it vastly more enjoyable.

  • MikeJ

When it comes to Revolution (I’ve only seen the first 3 episodes so far), has anybody else noticed that the main character Charlie is wrong in every. single. decision. Every time she has put her foot down and forced a decision, it’s a miserable failure. If I was her uncle, I wouldn’t even let her open her mouth, as she almost gets them all killed a few times every episode.

  • MikeJ

I like Revolution, the only thing I don’t like is how Charlie is always bitchy, and acts arragont as she almost leads everybody to their deaths, over and over. The girl seriously hasn’t made 1 right call the entire show.

  • MikeJ

Not to keep harping on it, but in Revolution Charlies character is just so annoying. Her uncle Miles is a military and strategic genius basically, building on his back this whole empire as Monroes #2 (and best friend) in only a decade. He’s made out to be this great leader and trainer of men, great at dealing with people, logistics expert, and an expert at laying out a plan and getting it done.

Charlier is a young girl who has never left home, ever. She bitches and throws a fit, refuses to take any advice, and does her own thing no-matter how much she puts everybodys life at risk (which is all the freakin time). She always acts smug and scoffs at her uncle Miles, while she is yet again proven wrong and Miles right, as she yet again almost gets them all killed.

Yet Miles keeps yielding to her, shakes is head, as they almost die (AGAIN)

Plus, Charlies brother is a total twit, he might as well of killed their father himself. Her brother again, is another brat who refuses to do what anybody says, even if those around them must die…

  • STB

Why all the hate on Revolution? I like it? If I wanted to watch something real, or something that close to real I would go outside and do something rather than watch TV. TV Shows are to take you away, not make you look and think, damn that looks real. Personally, I am rooting for Revolution. There aren’t any good Science Fiction shows anymore. And everyone bitch’s that there aren’t any. So someone puts one on, and everyone picks at it. If you don’t like. DON’T WATCH IT, that will fix your problem with.

  • rob60990

Revolution would pull the same rating as Chicago Fire if it were in that timeslot.

  • s0303

up all night and animal practice should be certain cancellation…and yes, revolution is pretty bad…bad acting, bad writing, bad pacing…the only good thing about the show was the concept…i stuck with it for 4 episodes cuz i really wanted to like this show, but it sucks…

  • Lamdog

Good shows start with a good premise. Revolution does not qualify and if one is to believe the comments about the writing, failing on the second requirement for a good show.

NBC: How low can you go?

  • Elijah Clark

Lets be honest. Any sane adult has the realize that Revolution doesn’t make any sense. If you want to like the show, you have to forget about the whole storyline of how it all begins and works. In addition, if you know JJ Abrams works, then you need to also know that the reason for the lights going out will never make sense. He struggles to write good conclusion to his shows. This is just another bridge to nowhere.

  • beauxscott

    Great premise, TERRIBLE writing.
