Country Stars vs. Firefighters: Battle of the 10PM Newbies (Poll)

Updated: Looks like the majority was right! Nashville debuted to a 2.8, while Chicago Fire earned a 1.9.

Tonight, two freshmen dramas will make their debut: One about a pair of dueling country superstars who want to rule the music scene, and the other about a bunch of firefighters with interpersonal issues. Nashville certainly has the edge as far as early reviews are concerned, but as we've seen with The Neighbors, reviews don't always matter, and fans of Law & Order might want to check out Chicago Fire based only on Dick Wolf's involvement.

So who gets your vote for the 10PM champ? Will you be checking out either of these new shows? Cast your vote and tell us why in the comments!

I’ll say 3.3 for Nashville (will probably follow Revenge’s path last year, maybe drop a little quicker), and no more than 2.3 for Chicago Fire

  • Ryan

Nashville so far is really great.I hope it does well.

  • Terry

When ABC announced Nashville would be on Wednesdays, I thought to myself, this show will be DOA, but I decided to give it a shot last night and watched the pilot online, and I was blown away. The writing, ,acting, and drama were superb and have you wanting more.

    Oh Nashville

  • craigcuk

Don’t 29m of Lady Gaga’s followers have to be in bed by 9pm on a School Night?

I actually think both aren’t bad show ideas. With all the cop shows it only seems fair that firefighters have their chance. It doesn’t interest me personally but it’s not bad.
Nashville sounds like it could be really popular, it also has a pretty well known cast on it’s side.
I never watched smash, but isn’t Nashville pretty similar to it in idea?

  • Jonathan

Just look at Chicago Fire’s lead in.

  • Dan

Nashville likely with that Modern Family lead in. The oldest drama on television will likely follow. Followed by Chicago Fire

I’m going big. How about a 4 for Nashville. Liked stars – check. Big lead in – check. Shows with country music tend to have broad appeal – check. The network picked according to its brand – check.

    chicago fire was pretty good!
nashville will have high ratings due to modern family’s lead in

Nashville will likely start strong because of the intense ad campaign ABS had done for it (it’s in the past 5 TV Guides, Walmart has it on their TV’s, Radio, even saw promos on cable networks out the yin yang). But I feel like it will start strong like Revenge, sending CSI to a series low and eventually back to a time period winning procedural. Shows have steadily been declining on a general basis, Law and Order SVU’s last original was a 2.1… leading me to believe Chicago Fire will be lower-in the 1.7 – 2.0 range.

Okay guys this is what I did tonight, since Chicago Fire could easily be seen On Demand my intention was to watch Nashville live so I did that right.

It dragged a little bit so I turned to Chicago Fire and I was like holy crap this is good. So I kept it there and turned back to Nashville maybe like 20-30 minutes later during a commercial break and still didn’t like what I saw and just kept it on Chicago Fire.

So basically I liked Chicago Fire better than Nashville. It felt like a Dick Wolf show and I liked that about it.

What were some of your guys experiences watching the two shows?

Yep that’s Meghann Fahy from One Life to Live on Chicago Fire. She got cast in a later episode. She did look a bit young there but the girl is like 20 years old in real life.

  • Paul

@Kerr, the pilot for Nashville was phenomenal.

  • ABC hater

Nashville will win big tonight. I wonder how it couldn’t. LOL

I’m officially in love with Nashville. I really connected with the characters. I love a very intense drama brought about due to great writing and terrific acting. I also loved the singing performances throughout the show. This is a great role for Connie. I see Emmy in her future.

ABC has top notch intense quality dramas this season with Once Upon A Time, Revenge, Nashville, Scandal and Last Resort.

Nashville was outstanding. Best I’ve seen in a long time. Phenomenal all the way around. Writing, acting, plot…and the music, wow! I’m not even a country music fan and I loved all the songs. Especially the last one which was a duet. I think with Connie Britton and Hayden attached to this project it already has a higher profile than Revenge, Scandal or Last Resort so I would expect it to do better. Especially since it really doesn’t have much competition in Chicago Fire. I switched channels a couple of times during commercials and CF felt like an old, re-hashed story. There was nothing unique or witty or compelling about it and the acting is rather amateurish in comparison to the line-up on Nashville.

I loved Chicago Fire over Nashville. I will definitely be watching as long as its on the air. I was initially going to watch Nashville all the way through but I felt bored and turned to CF and it got me hooked. I wanted more after it was over. It told a pretty good story and I like the use of on location shots in Chicago. It’s great to see a show shot on location that’snot in the typical New York or Los Angeles areas.

If you like a show like Third Watch or Law & order you might end up liking this show. If its out of your realm then you won’t like it.

I can’t believe a few people actually said they were bored watching Nashville, do people really have that little of attention spans? It’s not an action show or suspense show so of course it’s not going to be super face paced. It kept me intrigued the whole time. The acting was really great, I like the drama already and that both of the main characters have emotional problems going on and the duet at the end of the show was haunting and so beautiful. I’m sure the show will get better and better too. Chicago Fire is on demand so I’ll watch it there but it’s so funny that almost every critic has said it’s one of the worst new shows on tv but yet a lot of people are liking it. It’s not really fair to the other shows though that a lot of people tuned into CF just because Lady Gaga’s boyfriend was it in….that’s not really a reason to tune into a show.

I don’t understand why NBC put Chicago Fire on this night at this time. Then next week with American Horror Story, CSI still doing well at 10 and Nashville most likely going to pull Revenge Fall numbers, this night is too busy and CF will get lost in the shuffle.

NBC would be smart to move this show to another night, possibly Thursday @ 10 where Elementary is falling and Scandal already has soft numbers, CF could do well there 1.9-2.1. Not bad for NBC
