Country Stars vs. Firefighters: Battle of the 10PM Newbies (Poll)

Updated: Looks like the majority was right! Nashville debuted to a 2.8, while Chicago Fire earned a 1.9.

Tonight, two freshmen dramas will make their debut: One about a pair of dueling country superstars who want to rule the music scene, and the other about a bunch of firefighters with interpersonal issues. Nashville certainly has the edge as far as early reviews are concerned, but as we've seen with The Neighbors, reviews don't always matter, and fans of Law & Order might want to check out Chicago Fire based only on Dick Wolf's involvement.

So who gets your vote for the 10PM champ? Will you be checking out either of these new shows? Cast your vote and tell us why in the comments!

4.0+ for Nashville, 2.0-2.5 for Chicago Fire. The former will settle in the high 2s/low 3s while the latter will settle in the high 1s/low 2s.

The melodrama of the NBC promos is pretty hysterical.

I FELL INNNNNTOOOOO A BURNING RING OF FIIIIIRRRRREEEEE

  • SarahL

Hate to say, but I found Chicago Fire insanely boring. The Neighbors was funny as hell though.

I’ve got Nashville on my DVR & expecting it won its hour last night by a large margin. CF looks like a retread of Rescue Me & not interested in Dick Wolf shows anyway.

nashville was a really good show last night diffrent and everything was good i watched five minutes of chicago fire and i changed the channel because it was so damn boring.

OMG. arrow got a 3.0 in households! not DOA like all CW stuff.
nashville got a 6.8 (out of an 8.5 for MF)
    CF got a 4.7

Nashville at least looks intriguing and has a great lead-in. Chicago Fire will be the new Made in Jersey, based on the number of people who will simply go, “Oh, Chase is a firefighter now!” and then turn the channel out of disinterest.

Am I insane for missing NYC 22?

Obviously we saw Nashville and Arrow get sampled. Good for CW.

Okay start for Chicago Fire. The bad thing is that 2nd week premiers go down 10-15%.

Nashville was the clear winner though. Especially after the pilot has been available for a week or so and still manages to tie CSI HH. It’s going to win the hour in the demo of course. Also Revenge started at 7.0 in the HH with a stronger MF (9.8).

    Nashville was great!!

I watched 10 minutes or so of Nashville. Couldn’t stand it anymore. Not my cup of tea at all.
10 pm on Wed is going to be when I catch up on my DVR’d shows.

Nashville was a bad show, I was so disappointed. ABC sure spent a lot of money promoting it, and all night during 1 hour of Modern Family lead in (one of the highest rated shows on television) ABC was promoting Nashville with constant commercial advertising.
I predict Nashville premiere will have great ratings due to all the advertising and promotion ABC did, and the fact that ABC used an hour of Modern Family as a lead in.
I think lot of people sampled Nashville and did not like it and will not watch next week. Just another show critics like but the 18 – 49 viewers will not.
next week Nashville the lead in will be Suburgatory, which will cause another big drop in viewers.
I predict Nashville ratings will drop and keep dropping all season.

The Arrow was great; predict it will gain viewers all season.

The very surprising thing is that Chicago Fire built out of SVU. That has some promise.

@Honey Badger I think you’re wrong about Nashville. So far it seems like it is being taken very positive from last night.

  • omabin

I am so eager for last night’s results

I don’t have high expectations for Nashville. The premise is it should have been a mini-series. Too ‘country and women oriented’ drama. Doesnt have a broader appeal.

I think time will prove me right. We will have to check back in a couple of weeks. But so far I have seen a lot of bad reviews from the public, the critics like it and the sheep that follow what critics say like it. But there are a lot of bad reviews from the public on the internet.

Don’t let last night’s Nashville premier ratings fool you. ABC used an hour of Modern Family as a lead in, (one of the highest rated shows on television), and heavy promotion. Next week Nashville the lead in will be Suburgatory. I think lot of people sampled Nashville and did not like it and will not watch next week. Just another show Critics like but the 18 – 49 viewers will not, we have seen this over and over.

I stick to predicting Nashville ratings will drop big time and keep dropping all season

    Via an insider at NeoGAF:

    Nashville – 2.9
    Chicago Fire – 1.9

I agree, Nashville seems to be targeted to a very specific demographic. It is a same old formula soap opera (we have seen this type of storyline numerous times), made to attract the older women demographic. Also it is further limited by its attempt to make it appeal to older country music fans. In fact the storylines are straight out of old country music songs: my spouse is cheating, betrayal, my boss is mean, etc… songs: Stand By Your Man, Take This Job And Shove It, etc

    @Lynn

It sure was, Connie Britton is quite the actress.
