October 11, 2012 (Burbank, CA) – Last night’s premiere of Arrow was right on target for The CW – it drew 4.02 million viewers, the most watched telecast on the network of any show, on any night, in three years (11/12/2009), according to preliminary Live Plus Same Day Nielsen ratings for Wednesday, October 10, 2012.

ARROW was The CW’s most watched premiere since THE Vampire Diaries (9/10/2009). ARROW was also the most watched show in the Wednesday 8PM time period in more than three years (5/13/2009)

The ARROW premiere also gave Supernatural a boost last night; it was Supernatural's most watched episode (2.6M) since 10/15/10, and it had its best adults 18-34 rating (1.0/3) since 3/4/11.

Week to week, Supernatural was up 40% in total viewers, and up two-tenths in both adults 18-34 and adults 18-49 (1.0/3).

Last night was The CW's best Wednesday night in total viewers (3.3M) in more than two years (5/12/10) and in two years in adults 18-34 (1.0/3, 12/1/10) and in adults 18-49 (1.2/3, 10/13/10)

ARROW tied NBC's original comedies in the 8-9PM hour in total viewers (4M) and in adults 18-34 and adults 18-49.

ARROW held or built at the half hour in total viewers and in all key demos.

Compared to Wednesday of the same week last year, last night was up 121% in total viewers (3.3M), up 67% in adults 18-34 (1.0/3) and up 100% in adults 18-49 (1.2/3).

It’s remarkable how steady the CW was last night, both shows kept their ratings in the half-hours!

  • Alan

Don’t be too excited. I think it will drop two or three episodes until it stabilizes.

  • battye

Why would you say “it more than doubled its audience (4M vs. 1.3M)” when you could say you more than tripled it? Strange.

  • gerry

Of course it will drop some, but that’s a good number for both Arrow and CW.

  • EatMorePez

The CW hasn’t had a bona fide hit since the Vampire Diaries went on the air in 2009. They needed this. Let’s see if it can maintain its audience though.

  • Alex

I really liked Arrow, and I really hope that it can help The CW crawl out from the terrible mess that it’s currently in.

  • Matt

@battye I guess cause The CW’s PR dept hasn’t much experiences at writing press releases that actually have something to brag about like their counterparts at ABC

  • DeeAgeaux

I guess the dreamers were right >1.0

  • Hubert R.

those were high 7:30 numbers for the CW compared to the other nets ;p

  • Stan

I think Beauty and the Beast will premiere good.. Maybe it pulls an ANTM against the Debate.. I don’t think so but I hope it will do well. It has at least VD as a lead-in

When the final numbers are in, hope Arrow is adjusted up.

  • Skylar

    I’m thinking:

    VD – 1.2
    B&TB – 0.8

  • a p garcia

I hope BATB numbers are just as good as Arrow.

The CW needs to continue this trend by making more shows that can appeal to both men and women. In other words, get rid of the dead weight that’s bogging the network down — 90210, GG (which is thankfully ending), ANTM, etc. Shows like SPN, Arrow and Nikita (despite it’s low S2 ratings) are the direction in which the network should be headed.

I don’t even get CW anymore. Cablevision in the NY metro area yanked it last month and hasn’t looked back.

  • THE OLD MAN

This is really sweet–been smiling since I found out! Do it again Just a little bit louder tonight w/Vampire Diaries & Beauty

  • Percysowner

    @George

    Well that’s one viewer gone.

  • Jared

I’m really happy Arrow premiered with over 4 million viewers. This goes to show viewers will watch the CW if it has series worth watching outside the female demographic. CW does pretty well in the fantasy/sci fi genre(Smallville..TVD..Supernatural and now Arrow). Curious to see how Beauty & the Beast does tonight. I’m optimistic it will continue the trend and do pretty solid.

  • AJ

Nice to see 18-34 numbers !!!

  • George

Not sure what you mean there Percy. Cablevision has millions of customers, and I for one did not watch anything on there so I could care less. I’m sure there’s some people upset they don’t carry it anymore.
