Could 'Beauty and the Beast' Benefit From the VP Debate Tonight?

Update: Arrow can indeed kiss it! Beauty And The Beast earned a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating last night.

Because all four major networks  have to cram our civic duty down our throats, there won't be much on TV at the 9PM hour. Well, except on The CW, which is premiering Beauty And The Beast:  a reboot of the late 80s drama featuring less cat-faced sewer people and more super-attractive twenty-somethings. But aesthetics aside, if you are looking for something on broadcast tonight that isn't a VP debate (or football, depending on where you live), Beauty And The Beast is all you got. So could this get people to tune in? Guess the premiere ratings below and tell us what you think in the comments!

    0.7 – 0.9

  • TV

    Key word POTENTIAL!

  • George

I think it will draw slightly better than it would have against “regular” programming. That being said, I still don’t think it will do all that great (maybe a .7-.8), and will be .5ish next week.

  • Jeff (Canada)

Yeah I would say 0.8 or 0.9. Still good, but not as good as Arrow’s 1.3.

I was actually thinking that the debate could hurt it not help it, but maybe it could go the other way around? Either way I see it pulling below a 1.0 in the demo; probably a .8.

0.8 tonight, then settling into 0.6s. I think the result tonight (and even later) will come from the vampire diares and not the debate. There are tones of cable TV to watch if people dont want to watch the debate, not necessarily the cw

    critics gave this dreadful reviews

    critics gave this dreadful reviews

Critics also wrote off Chicago Fire and love Nashville (which I thought was a snore, then again I hate musicals) Chicago Fire was 10+ better.

So forgive me if I don’t watch what the critics tell me to ;p

  • Vance

What is more important for Beauty and the Beast tonight is that Grey’s Anatomy isn’t airing.

  • Kevin Somerhalder

Everybody is so negative. I expect a 1.4.

  • EatMorePez

I think a fair number of Vampire Diaries viewers will sample Beauty and The Beast (at least tonight). I’ll go with 0.9.

  • Dillan

    Vampire Diaries: 1.4
    BATB: 1.1

  • Kavyn

Might premiere nicely due to TVD but I expect it to follow TSC.

  • Tony

    1.0 on the dot.

  • JJA

When all is said and done, I think B&TB will get the same numbers as Supernatural (just a bit below Arrow & VD).

Of course, if it’s not good, it will suffer the same sudden drop at the end of the season that Secret Circle did.

  • Freyja

    I voted 0.7-.09 but I could see it get a 1.0-1.2

It looks pretty good from the previews…

  • Percysowner

I went with 1.0-1.2. I don’t think it looks as exciting as Arrow, so I don’t think it will beat it. I’m guessing other viewers don’t share my dislike for KK, so I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt. I’m also thinking that having a distinctly non-beasty Beast will not hurt the show, although in my case, it kind of ruins the whole idea. So I’m voting against my gut on this one.

i dont like cw shows, but if i was forced to watch between cw, or joe biden and paul ryan, cw will get my vote! :)

  • kyle

    1) How can this be called Beauty and the Beast when Beast is still sexier then most normal men?? That doesn’t make any sense.

    2) 1.1

  • Martin

Seriously, your poll for Arrow had its top one as 1.0 or greater and here has a 1.3 or greater option, might be nitpicky but no way this does better than Arrow and if by some miracle it gets close enough to it, it won’t be close in their respective second episodes.

Arrows pilot was so good i’m thinking it is highly possible that its second episode could beat the second episode of The Vampire Diaries 1st season in total viewers, it got 3.78 million and Arrow first episode got just over 4 million, could happen.

It could end up being the highest rated second episode of a new show in the history of the CW, and 90210 doesn’t count as it was 2hr premiere.

Think it will be like this:

The Vampire Diaries – 3.2 million, 1.5 rating
Beauty And The Beast – 2.6 million, 1.1 rating

but BATB will probably drop hard in second episode. Should do decently enough since their is basically nothing on other than Debate and Sports so if it can’t premiere at least okay with everything factored, that is bad.
