Deadline reports that NBC has decided to call it quits on Next Caller after four episodes (out of the six ordered) were filmed.  Apparently NBC didn't like the creative direction of the comedy starring Dane Cook.  According to the report, production has been shut down and the filmed episodes will not air.

@Nick. I think your mostly right about the Primetime schedule WITH a few adjustments and I’ll explain in a moment.

    8-10 The Voice
    10-11 Smash

    8-9 Voice “Results”
    9 Go On
    9:30 New Normal
    10-11 Parenthood

    8-9 Biggest Loser
    9-10 Law and Order: SVU
    10-11 Hannibal

    8 Community
    8:30 1600 Penn
    9 The Office
    9:30 P&R
    10-11 Do No Harm

    8 Whitney
    8:30 GWK
    9-10 Grimm
    10-11 Dateline

    8-9 SVU Repeats
    9-10 Dateline
    10-11 Chicago Fire “Burnoff”

    8-9 Fashion Star
    9-11 Celebrity Apprentice: All Stars

Okay. Notice I left “Revolution” off…Why? Well, don’t worry…it’s NOT cancelled. BUT what I do see instead is for instance, the “Revolution” is like “Smash” whereas…they revolve. I don’t think there is enough time to create more episodes to show for an entire season for that. It’s a heavy drama, and I expect to see it back in the fall.

Also notice I added an hour for CA on Sunday…reason. First off, all of his shows have been 2 hours and to narrow it to an hour…well, won’t please “The Donald” lol. I expect this to remain the norm.

I elimated “Rock Center” for now…but that is because I expect to just be a “Fill-In” for cancelled shows and could ‘revolve’ around many timeslots. It’s too early to say where that will fall.

1600 Penn and Community…this could go either way, but I feel that having Community on BEFORE 1600 Penn might be a better way to go.

Also, Law and Order:SVU is now on at 9PM. I expect it to remain that way, and to have scary “Hannibal” on afterwards.

I hope you enjoyed my madness :)

  • Michael

    Oh.. Save me. Yes.

That could go many places…MANY places lol. It will get on don’t worry.

Best bet right now…Change GWK to Save Me for Friday at 8:30 but I wouldn’t be surprised to see this go on the Tuesday block somewhere but that would mean re-adjusting (i.e. “Go On” to Thursday??)

  • Michael

    Gah! YES…I almost forgot.

“Off their Rockers” that will be on Fridays at 8:30 after Whitney. So yes, “Go On” WILL be moving to Thursday Nights…probably will replace “The Office” actually…when does their season end?? If that’s not possible, than it will go on Tuesdays still and just replace “New Normal”…either way, expect this in the Tuesday Time slot (Which means that “Save Me” Will air on Tuesdays)

So let’s just review Tuesday and Friday with the NEW schedule *sorry for the confusion people* :S

    8-9 Voice Recap
    9 Go ON
    9:30 Save Me
    10 Parenthood

    8 Whitney
    8:30 Off Their Rockers
    9-10 Grimm
    10-11 Dateline

So GWK and the New Normal…well, let me say this…

    One is getting CANCELLED! :O
The other….can be played around with. (Maybe Thursday??) But let’s go with this for now :)

GOOD. dane cook is horrible and not funny at all.

    @ Patrick Gillease

I think a Friends reboot could work really well and could be the jump start NBC needs for their comedy genre. I also agree with Charlie Sheen on them failing to pickup Roseanne and Lady Friends which could’ve easily turned the ratings needle for them and brought back the comedy viewers to the network.

  • Da Truth

    @ Michael

That’s not a good schedule, you just totally dissed GWK, Chicago Fire, and Infamous for no reason. Why is New Normal still scheduled when that’s a bigger failure than Up All Night and Animal Practice.

  • Don

    He is funny. Sorry!

  • Don

Oop! I meant he is NOT funny.

NBC Cancels Mid-Season Comedy ‘Next Caller’ Before It Airs is another embarrassment for NBC. They picked up the series, produced a few episodes, and then NBC canceled the show and stopped production. Didn’t anybody at NBC check to see how this show was being written?

Just viewed promotion material and trailer for “Mockingbird Lane” airing the pilot as a standalone. The show is awful, terrible, it stinks no wonder NBC did not pick it up as a series.
My only question is why $10 million dollars was spent to make the pilot. Didn’t anybody at NBC check to see how this show was being written. This is very embarrassing for NBC.
Bryan Fuller should be embarrassed; this bad show really hurts his reputation. And he still thinks it may be picked up as a series? Is he crazy?
How many of Jerry O’Connell shows have been cancelled? Now his shows do not even get past being a pilot.

NBC downgrading ‘Mockingbird Lane’ to a NBC Halloween Special, after $10 million dollars spent on the pilot and the signing of one year contracts with – Jerry O’Connell as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi as his wife Lily and Eddie Izzard as Grandpa and others.
    a. And after all that “THR reports that the creatives behind the scenes “had different visions” for the $10 million pilot, and the net result was the network did not have the confidence to proceed with “Mockingbird” as a series”.
    b. Shouldn’t they have gotten the creatives different visions ironed out before spending $10 million dollars, signing contracts and producing the pilot?

    I am amazed:
    a) that the quality of pilots (on the big 4) is so poor (even for my favourite programmes like NCIS years ago) that the pilot has only to be reasonable for me to watch. The best pilot I have seen in recent times was Human Target (Season 2 was awful and so different form Season 1).
    b) why the main channels think they have the same values and standards as cable – The Mob Doctor is about five years late (The Sopranos anyone)
    c) why anyone thinks ideas which have been done before will work again Made in Jersey vs Suits. However, lie to me vs the mentalist vs Psych might make this statement look foolish although you could argue that one of these is arguably the biggest show with an Australian lead actor (Chuck does not count here!)
    d) remakes look even more foolish: Knight Rider (with the car not being the star), bionic woman (with a Brit, – I’m British too – sorry about the spelling eg program earlier) and even H5O is struggling.
    e) if a series is popular it reminds oldies of something when they were younger (eg early NCIS is Team Knight Rider without the cars!)

  • ABC hater

They should at least show the Mockingbird Lane pilot on the Halloween night to give it a chance. Anyway…

  • Will

I’m surprised this wasn’t cancelled four letters into the word Dane.

  • groove365

    NBC being NBC.

  • michael in cmh

Anything with Dane Cook would flop. He sucks!

  • michael in cmh

Da Truth. name and spelling tells you all you need to know.

  • Mork & Mindy Killed Last Resort

Like somebody said on here before they should’ve picked up Downwardly Mobile and Lady Friends and they wouldn’t be having this problem right now.

  • a p garcia

Never saw it never knew it even existed so I have no comment on Next Caller. I do know about the Munster remake called Mockingbird Lane. I am glad NBC axed this remake, b/c I don’t think I can somach Munsters as a DRAMA!

  • AcuraT

Wow,made it slightly past the highly hyped NBC show “Wonder Woman” of last year, when they just filmed the pilot and it was canceled. I guess it took four episodes here of filming few laughs to cancel this one.

  • Dean_W

Why NBC did that ? I’m agree Dan Cook is not funny at all but NBC already has four filmed episodes and they will not air them. They can schedule 2 episodes on Saturday at 9/8c (to make at least a little money !) or air it in Summer.
