Fair enough, but it still had falling ratings and was making no use of it’s lead-in!

I don’t get all the bitterness about TSC.

Behaving this way certainly will not bring it back and it’s not like it was a ratings juggernaut.

  • thesnowleopard

You can’t prove that it had a large international audience. At any rate, it’s pretty obvious its international audience (however much it was) was meaningless because it wasn’t *profitable.*

Also, the show’s DVR rating (which is meaningless, too) wasn’t all that hot.

And everything I have said means far more than anything you’ve said, since none of your many imaginative excuses make “The Secret Circle” any less canceled.

  • Flame

Some very strange observations that deviate from the norm:

    1) + 0.3 for TBBT, more than the usual, and while down it closes in to 0.4 on Modern Family

    2) no up for XF, Fox singing contests usually go up

    3) my ex will be delighted that TVD doesn’t go down despite the football game, and I expected more than a -0.1 for BatB, so well done CW

  • tara

Seriously TSC is dead. Why do their fans have to bring down BATB success? Its not the reason the show is gone.

I think BATB was pretty good. I can’t wait to watch more especially after watching the promo.

You don’t think The Secret Circle has any chance of actually coming back? Do you?

I don’t think there is any example of an hour long drama that was cancelled for 6 months and then became “uncancelled”.

  • thesnowleopard

Oh, lordie, *another* whackjob TSC troll. Our collective cup runneth over.

I was a fan of the secret circle (the second part of the season mostly) and was very sad to see it go, but from a ratings standpoint it made sense, so I cannot really complaint here. Besides, between TSC and Nikita I still prefer Nikita, and I think the decision came down to that. You can argue that HoD was also in the game but I don’t think they would have moved Nikita or Secret Circle to Tuesday to pair it with Nikita and on Fridays, Nikita just makes more sense, as it was already established and pulling (taking into account the lead in) better numbers than the secret circle, not to mention closer to syndication.

cw held up much better than i thought…tvd had more viewers in the demo than hod, 90210 and gossip girl COMBINED…that’s really impressive :) wonder how much beauty and the beast will fall next week…i’m guessing 0.7 or 0.8 next week…it was not very good :(

  • forg

    Good ratings for CW!

    Too bad Last Resort :(

TBBT is older skewing now, it can get 4.5 with less viewers 10-12 million viewers before.

    @ KJ Styles
“I had originally picked Partners to be the first show to get the axe, but since it was Made In Jersey, I highly doubt that CBS wants to have the first AND second cancelled shows of the season.

So now I’ll go with Animal Practice. Getting beat by a CW show is NOT a good look.

You are right, a lot of NBC shows are being beat by CW shows, very alarming.

Animal Practice, 30 Rock, Up All Night, Guys With Kids, etc. all beat in ratings by CW

I don’t get what all the commotion is about! If you love TVD, you love TVD. It is a good show, and became better over the years. And many the people that say that it is complex or isn’t complex you are BOTH wrong. It’s in the middle. It’s not to complex to the point where you are confused about everything or normal to the point where it is too stupid to watch. It’s a show where you understand everything that happens and also has its casual moments where somethings you can just relax without you being on your toes.

But the truth is, the show DOES burn off plots easily, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Let’s say they burn off 2 plots per-season and a third as a cliff-hanger season finale. It means they can create more and that they can change the characters background/add a background easily. There are also those plots that you think aren’t important, but become super important in the end or in a few seasons time. Like The Damon & Elena plot. I really didn’t think anything would happen between them. But something did, a spark lit up. Like twice every season they’d have a ‘Delena’ Moment. Then when the third season came along their relationship was one of the most important things in it.

What i’m trying to tell you is that the show can create a million plots a second. And they will (Let’s hope). Also it isn’t a dumb show. Its good!

@SPM Secret Circle wasn’t special with its DVR viewing.

    Last season:
Vampire Diaries gained an average of .5 A18-49 through DVR viewing.
Supernatural and both Heart of Dixie & Secret Circle gained .4
Ringer, 90210 and ANTM gained .3
Gossip Girl & Nikita gained .2

I get it — you really liked TSC — I watched it too, but whatever expectations the CW had for it, didn’t get met and it was cancelled. The new shows don’t have anything to do with that. There’s no point in rooting for them to fail.

Luckily for you the Producers said that they want TVD to have 6 seasons(maybe a 7th but that’s it)

Also i can see the Cw begging them for renewal but i don’t think that Nina will renew her contract past the 6th season! An who can blame her? This September she receieved rave reviews for her performance in the perks of being a wallflower even though she was like 10 min in it.

Rumor has it hat there is a scene that was deleted from the movie that made many casting directos fall in love with her!So her leaving TVD to follow the carrer every actor wants …it’s normal and understandable so i don’t expect TVD to last more than 7 season and not because it has bad ratings or it run out of ideas but because the actors will want to move on!

Personally i can see Ian and Paul in more tv shows.Nina,Joseph and Candice in many movies!I actually think that Nina will join the ranks of actresses such as Jennifer Laswrence,Emma Watson and Emma Stome!

Spm, networks dont cancel shows cause they dont like them, they cancel them cause low viewership means lesd money. If Mark didnt like it, he and Dawn wouldnt picked it up to begin with because Dawn and Mark both did last years programming.

  • Wilson

How fast do episodes make it to air?

I ask because 2 days ago I was walking around Downtown Toronto and they were still filming for Beauty and the Beast.

  • Holly

Pilots are done months in advance, but I think most episodes are filmed 3-4 weeks before they go on air

  • robin

it was probably a later episode

  • Lori B.

I believe many CW naysayers fail to realize that adult fans of genre TV comprise part of their viewership. Fantasy is king right now, so shows like Supernatural and TVD are fun and sate my craving for concept storytelling. They’re the only US broadcast TV shows I watch.

I’ve loved ASoiAF since the publication of Game of Thrones over a decade ago. It’s a thrill to see it adapted by HBO, but the season is quite short. Sherlock is excellent, but that’s just a few hours a year. Downton Abbey is enjoyable period drama. Damian Lewis is wonderful (as always) in Homeland.

Do I wish there were strong sci-fi shows like Babylon 5, Farscape, TNG, BSG… or even quasi-SF shows like Lost on the air? Certainly, but the pendulum will swing back to science fiction after a while as it inevitably does. Genre media is cyclical, so I’ll be watching TVD and Supernatural and checking out the occasional new genre series on the CW in the meantime.

  • Christina

Well to put it in perspective vampirediaries is currently filming or has just completed filming its 8th episode of the season. Although I do not know for sure about beauty and the beast, it should be around there too since they both started filming new episodes around the beginning of July
