    Can’t they also be fans of HBO, SHO, AMC, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.? I doubt most of them only like the CW or ABC Family.

    I’d argue against that premise…the average cw soapy romance fan isn’t going to enjoy homeland, or shameless, or house of lifes, sure they may enjoy true blood, cause it’s just vampire diaries but with a lot more nakedness and ‘less pretty’ people, but will they watch treme – or breaking bad?

    It’s not the network they like it’s the type of show they like – they exist on many networks – the cw and abc family specialize in them.

    i watch super natural, I watch bunheads, I liked the 10 things i hate about you 30 minute show – but i don’t care much either way about them – nor do i get emotional about ratings or take it personally when the shows are up or down.

    Good for TVD, Arrow, BATB and Supernatural

    the rest of the CW is pathetic

    Also, don’t think Animal Practice will be the first NBC show to be removed from the schedule -Up All Night has terrible ratings, at least Animal Practice still has the chance to grow being a new show only a few weeks old, UAN is not going to get any new viewers, it is just going to continue losing them. Wonder how long before NBC averages less than a 1.0 in the Thursday 8pm hour.

    Nice to see TBBT & 2.5M adjusted up!

    TVD ties ABC & beats NBC @ 8:00 & BATB settles @ 1.2, good show!

  • Sid

    TVD still the #1 show on CW :D

    Beauty was decently sampled. Overall a good night for CW. I’m hoping(one can hope) Nikita can somehow return at least to the rating it had in the Fall.

    Completely different cases. First of all, Friends, Cheers and Seinfeld all had weak seasons. Second of all, they were comedies, so they didn’t have to worry about coming up with complex story arcs like TVD does. All they had to worry about was coming up with jokes.
    You’re wrong on many counts

    1. The Vampire Diaries doesn’t have complex story arcs – if it did most of its viewers would be confused
    2. Don’t confuse comedy as not having story lines or arcs they all do
    3. The ‘weakest’ season of Friends or Cheers (or Gilmore Girls if it makes you feel better, of buffy the vampire slayer) will end up better than any season of The Vampire Diaries.

    I used to be a huge kevin williamson fan, but somewhere between season 1 of dawsons creek and the rest of the show he went dreadfully wrong.

    Hill Street Blues wasn’t a procedural any more than NYPD Blue was a procedural.

    Shocked at the lack of adjustment for the CW shows! Good for them though as I said before, I don’t wish them ill will.

    I do wonder about the schedules in other timezones though … someone mentioned in the prelim thread that BBT and Last Resort were preempted in their location for the debate. What cities/markets did both TVD and BatB have no competition other than the debate and was that why they had more than enough extra eyeballs to weather the NFL preemption in Pittsburgh?

    Also, just curious, how often, if ever, has Nielsen come out after the finals with an “our bad” correction note?

    TVD still the #1 show on CW

    That’s like being the best Pauly Shore movie right?

  • Eridapo

    Looking at the NFL game ratings, I’m more shocked at those numbers than I’m with the CW.

    I guess people, even in Pittsburgh, do care about the future of the nation and watch the debates instead….

    @Sid

    Really glad TVD did so well, i’ve watched a few episodes of Nikita it looks pretty good so might buy season 1 on DVD in the near future, but I just bought Supernatural seasons 1-6. I hope Nikita does well tonight perhaps 0.6-0.7?

  • Hugo Manso

    Wow! Congratulations to CW

    NBC should wrap up “Up All Night” really soon.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Robert Seidman

    @Eradipo: yep, those #s are correct. Also, Yankees/O’s game averaged a 1.7 A18-49 over nearly 5 hours (7:30p-12:16a).

  • Christina

    Haha great for tvd! I’d like to think that it caused x factor to go below 3.0 even thought its probably not true lol

  • Skylar

    @John_M: I think Kevin has little imput on TDV since season 2. Its more of a Julie Plec show now, and it reeked last season.

  • rob60990

    @Eridapo, I think more than 2.65 million watched the game. I don’t even think a 2.5 demo with that many viewers is possible. ;)

    Or just went to a bar to watch the game in High Def on NFL Network and get drunk with other steeler fans as big ben chokes away another game?

    There’s not a whole lot to look forward to in pittsburgh aside from the steelers (disclaimer – I am from philadlephia)

  • CrimTV

    @John_M

    How can you compare Friends to The Vampire Diaries? And yes TVD does have complex storylines, which fans who have seen the series since season 1 would understand. Complex storylines don’t have to be confusing to everyone!

  • Skylar

    And is it me or does B&TB skew really young? TVD too. Nice demo numbers considering the viewers

  • Rachel

    @John_M

    Wow, ok. All I did was post an excited comment regarding a show I love. I had no idea my intelligence was going to be insulted because of it. I’m not here to argue with a stranger on the Internet – I have better things to do with my life, which judging by how much time you seem to spend on this site, you don’t. I’m curious as to how old you think I am – my comment being about TVD, my spelling error, that comment regarding my intelligence and your condescending tone leads me to believe you think I’m a lot younger than I am, and probably less educated than I am too. Everyone makes spelling errors, including you, and I’m not sure why you feel the need to insult someone you’ve never met on the Internet over it.

    Anyway… I’m not here for any of this. I’m here to celebrate TVD’s best ratings in over a year =)

  • Vance

    I have to agree with John_M. Vampire Diaries most definitely does not have complex story arcs. What it does do is burn off plots very quickly, which is not the same as being a show that is confusing/difficult to follow.
