@Skylar
My understanding is that The Vampire Diaries started out as books, so all Williamson was doing was cobbling someone elses work and hoping to hope on the awful vampire trend (i call it awful since there are no vampires in twilight)
He’s been bad for a long time, the vampire diaries is just the bottom (i hope) in my opinion
I had no idea my intelligence was going to be insulted because of it. I’m not here to argue with a stranger on the Internet
Then you shouldn’t be on the internet – arguing with strangers is where the fun is
And yes, some people will judge you based on liking an awful soap opera – sorry that’s the way the world works – you are judged by your taste and I judge your taste to be atrocious
@Vance
Not if Last Resort had more 18-49 viewers. The 1.6 is just the rounded number.
@Greg
If Vampires Diaries is what passed to you as complex story arcs then you never watched a good show.
I have liked vampire diaries since it aired, never missed an episode. It never gets old for me! Beauty and the beast was like a 6.5 out of a 10 rating for me. It’ll probably be a little better next week though. ARROW was a solid 8 out of 10 for me! And I hope emily owens, m.d. will have atleast a 0.8 and keep a 0.6 or more for the season.
@Christina
_Haha great for tvd! I’d like to think that it caused x factor to go below 3.0 even thought its probably not true lol_
It’s always possible, they both attract the younger crowd, perhaps fans of TVD were watching TXF while waiting for it to premiere?
@Crim_TV
Lost had complex storylines
The Vampire Diaries doesn’t have complex story lines – It has True Blood story lines (True Blood doesn’t have complex storylines) would be my guess, I admit I’ve never watched the show but I feel comfortable that complexity and vampire diaries go together like carrot top and talent.
As for comparing friends and the vampire diaries – look at the original comment to understand the context – context is important
good for tvd, the premiere was lackluster, hope episode 2 lives up to the online hype
lol Beauty and the flop
TVD still slaying all these new shows. I wonder what kind of ratings it would get if it was on a “real” network.
@Skylar
TVD skews younger than B&TB (2.78 million, 1.2 vs. 3.18 million, 1.6)
Loving the meltdowns!
*Grabs popcorn*
“I’d argue against that premise…the average cw soapy romance fan isn’t going to enjoy homeland, or shameless, or house of lifes, sure they may enjoy true blood, cause it’s just vampire diaries but with a lot more nakedness and ‘less pretty’ people, but will they watch treme – or breaking bad?
It’s not the network they like it’s the type of show they like – they exist on many networks – the cw and abc family specialize in them.
i watch super natural, I watch bunheads, I liked the 10 things i hate about you 30 minute show – but i don’t care much either way about them – nor do i get emotional about ratings or take it personally when the shows are up or down.”
You are talking about the overly emotional fans because I also loved 10 things I hate about you. I wanted to like Bunheads because I was a fan of Gilmore Girls, but it wasn’t good and I never liked Supernatural. But, I watch Arrow, PLL, Nikita, TVD, SAB (behind a lot of eps though), TLG, and Melissa and Joey. This does not stop The Wire for being my all time favorite or Breaking Bad from being my current favorite. I also love Game of Thrones, Homeland, Treme (behind a season), and a lot of other great shows.
I expect quality from the latter and just enjoyment from the former, but some people are just emotional about everything regardless of the network.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I watch Arrow, SPN, Vampire Diaries, BatB, Nikita AND Breaking Bad, Homeland, Damages, Game Of Thrones, Walking Dead AND Bones, Castle, CSI, Criminal Minds, Revenge, OUAT, Grimm, Fringe AND even Glee and The Voice.
So quit stereotyping people. Geez.

If real network had wanted Vampire Diaries it would have been on a real network
At least we are admitting that CW isn’t a real network – that’s a good first step
So quit stereotyping people. Geez.
No
@SPM
How is B&TB a flop, when it premiered just a tenth below Arrow which everyone was saying was a roaring success?
How do you make text italic when quoting a previous comment?
@ John M
Well I’m from Pittsburgh but I’ll answer you anyway
Hill St Blues ran from Jan 81-May 87
St Elsewhere Oct 82 thru Aug 88
@John_M. How can you say a show has complex stories but you’ve never watched it?
Surprise Secret Circle fans arent here. It must have had no fanbase after all.

Now see – I have a problem with this sentence, you segregate quality and enjoyment as though they are separate things that can’t go together. If people believed things like that we’d never have reesee’s peanut butter cups, or twix, or fluffernutter.
As for BunHeads, I started enjoying it when I just accepted it was still gilmore girls but rory was broken down into four different characters each representing one aspect of her personality.
