    1. It does have. They have to plant the seeds of every twist and every storyline so that it doesn’t feel random. So that makes it complex.

    2. Obviously they have arcs, but they are incredibly simple and require little planning. The biggest arc of Friends is about a guy who cheated on his girlfriend but they still love each other only they won’t admit that. And Seinfeld has almost no arcs whatsoever. Nothing we see in the episode before is mentioned in the next episode (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

    3. I didn’t realize I was talking to a hater. That’s disappointing. And you’re wrong. And I’m a fan of all these shows.

    @CrimTV, SPM is a bitter Secret Circle fan, ya know the show that pulled a .5-.6 after TVD’s 1.1-1.2.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Robert Seidman

    @Vance: Not if Last Resort had more 18-49 viewers. The 1.6 is just the rounded number.

    As far as the sorting goes, it’s nitpicky, but probably valid since as a general rule, shows with higher rounded share in the national ratings also have more 18-49 viewers. Sadly, in the daily finals data we get, we don’t usually see # of 18-49 viewers, only the rating.

    ohhhhh x factor nooooo, the show is good…..

  • John_M

    @John_M. How can you say a show has complex stories but you’ve never watched it?

    Same way I can be sure a Carrot Top movie is going to suck without having ever seen one, or that anything that allows David Spade a main role is going to make me ill, or that twilight is festering garbage.

    Years of experience have taught me you can learn a lot about something in the entertainment world but examining the make up of the obsessive fans.

    @suzie
    More likely, TVD will go six seasons and go out gracefully, since that is generally what happens to genre shows with large casts, rising costs and decent-but-not-stellar ratings (Eureka being a case in point). I doubt its ratings will be high enough to justify its continued existence past then. Basically, it would have to have Smallville-level ratings to justify resigning the cast and it already doesn’t have those, even allowing for Gunsmoke-rule adjustments.

    But that’s a few years down the road, so there’s no reason for TVD fans to get excited about it. Obviously, it’s not going anywhere right now.

    @ John A

    Go look at facebooks CW page and see how much of a fanbase TSC has

    @ CrimTv

    Its a flop as it adjusted which for a premiere of a new show is terrible especially with a big lead in. It will be at 0.4/0.5 soon enough anyway.

  • CrimTV

    @rob60990

    Okay, thanks for the heads-up :D

    I was a fan of TSC but I got over it’s cancellation within a week!

  • Freyja

    Not bad for the CW

    B&TB wasn’t all that bad and it was miles better than TSC, but it wasn’t fantastic either.

    Glad they have two stable nights at least something is working for them..

  • MoHasanie

    That’s good that TBBT rose. I was surprised that it had fallen a massive 7 tenths in one week. Still, I wonder why MF and TBBT have fallen so much? MF has had more severe falls year to year than TBBT. Its a little worrying that they are in the 4’s in the fall. They will probably fall more in the spring. Looking at MF and TBBT’s ratings, make 2BG, TAAHM, and HIMYM’s ratings not look as bad as previously thought despite the big falls.

    Good night for CW. Arrow and Beauty and the Beast proves that CW can still get great sampling for their new shows. They should have ended Gossip Girl and 90210 last year.

  • SPM

    @ rob60990

    TSC pulled in more 0.7s and 0.8s than 0.6s or 0.5s so please get a new line as that one is BORING.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Robert Seidman

    @John_M: you can also be absolutely sure your opinion about the show’s quality have no bearing on the ratings (just like any other critic!).

  • John A

    Yeah Facebook page matters LMAO.

    Crimtv,Nikita dosent premiere tonight,next week.SPM is a troll,a bitter SC fan who calls all CW flops/roots for them fail and get cancelled to punish CW for canceling SC.

  • CrimTV

    @SPM

    If you really are a retention enthusiast (which we know most of the time doesn’t make any difference to renewal *cough* *cough* Happy Endings), but B&TB had around a 75% retention which isn’t bad

  • Jinjeon

    CW should become a genre network. Only the genre shows are working for them. Stick to that and you’ll be fine.

  • John_M

    @Greg

    It does have. They have to plant the seeds of every twist and every storyline so that it doesn’t feel random. So that makes it complex.

    No it doesn’t. You don’t understand what ‘complex’ is for a story line if you think that makes it complex. That’s just standard writing techniques. If you don’t want deus ex machina you have to ‘plant the seeds’ for everything that happens earlier. That’s not complexity – that’s called ‘plotting’

    Again, I’m not using Seinfeld, because by definition it was a show about nothing, but if you think that Friends didn’t have arcs you didn’t pay attention…btw – most actors will also admit that comedy is much harder than drama (do a little research about how De Niro had to be persuaded heavily into doing analyze this cause he thought he’d suck). Friends had arcs – you don’t understand what an arc is it seems.

    3. I didn’t realize I was talking to a hater. That’s disappointing. And you’re wrong. And I’m a fan of all these shows.

    Sigh, not sure why children have to resort to this term ‘hater’. I hate very few things, hate is a strong emotoin. It IS an emotion. Emotions are feelings. I have no feelings for Vampire Diaries. if it vanished tomorrow I wouldn’t be happy or upset, I wouldn’t notice. This comment is just your way of not having to admit you haven’t proven a point yet

  • CrimTV

    @Brandy

    Oh yeah, just remembered Nikita premieres next week, lol

    Could you also tell me the color of the sky, is water wet, and other obvious things?
