@nick also, t=numbers for pair of kings on disney xd @ 7:30
*in the coming weeks
Also the points made are valid and are easily sourcable. Universal Cable Productions is actively involved in this shows production. Just like with Eureka and many others.
And like with Eureka, the money to produce said show never materialised as NBC Universal didn’t want this show renewed.
Ratings aside, I know I’m not saying what you want to hear but I am being entirely honest with you.
Kelly,
Sorry, but you’re wrong. PLL still routinely pulls in 2 million + viewers and is in its 3rd season. PLL is the only hit the network has left. S@B is doing OK for now but if it dips further, and I’m talking 1.4 or under viewers and a 0.5 demo, and does so routinely, it will not be renewed for a 3rd season. ABC Family will not renew it with numbers like that seeing as it’s cancelled numerous other shows with similar ratings.
Don’t even try to compare Switched At Birth to Pretty Little Liars. Pretty Little Liars was and still is a HUGE hit for ABCF. Switched At Birth was a hit when it first premiered but isn’t anymore. Pretty Little Liars still gets 2.5-3 million viewers on a weekly basis. Switched At Birth struggles just to get half of that, usually averaging 1.5 million. The only show not in danger of cancellation anytime soon on ABCF is Pretty Little Liars.
PLLfan- We are saying the almost same thing, so I don’t think I’m so wrong.
Agree, PLL is the only “hit” the network has left, and it is far from the hit it was before. It’s not such an old lady season three isn’t season five.
I’m just saying when every other show the network launches is doing 1 – 1.5, it’s not going to cancel the one show that premieres over two, stablizes at 1.5, will be 3/4 on it’s way to syndication after season two, and has won huge huge awards and acclaim. That’s S@B. It’s probably safe for a third unless it dips below 1 (it’s not come close) or if the next three shows are big hits. And looking at those pilots, I do not see that happening. I see those shows all doing somewhere between Jane By Design numbers and Bunheads numbers.
Carrie, I agree but let’s be honest. PLL doesnt do 2.5 – 3 every week. It does something like 2.1-2.3, outside of premieres and finales. Which is still far and away the best ABCF has. But it’s not the huge hit it was.
S@B is nowhere near in that category. But right now, it’s doing “the best of the rest” and it is the only show that has given ABCF any critical acclaim. It won the very impressive Critics award, with shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men. ABCF has never been in that company. With 30 something episodes in it’s first season and 20 in its second, it’s one good season away from syndication. It gets a lot of attention and awards from deaf and latino communities. And as long as every other show they launch does less than that, and so far for two years they have, S@B is safe.
Kelly,
That’s pretty much what I was trying to say, but you said it better. Obviously we all know how integral PLL is to the network, not trying to compare it to SAB at all, but the bottom line is you can’t just have one top show and have it be that. SAB has done incredibly well with awards lately (and I know some feel awards are neither hinders nor helpers, but I think they help, especially a Critics award) and it garners a lot of attention. Besides, Bunheads was promoted like crazy, has Sutton Foster, and it definitely didn’t meet the hype that ABCF expected it to, so I don’t see any of the new shows doing that well, even if J. Lo is producing one. And yes, after season 2, S@B will have 50 episodes, therefore, it is close to syndication. That matters. Obviously if it starts to bomb, I’d say yes, a problem, but it’s doing well enough and is the network’s number 2.
Alphas could have been a good show, but it’s just a lackluster mishmash of ideas ripped off from better properties. It’s a shame when a good genre show gets an opportunity and just squanders it with bad writing and unoriginal ideas.
@ Kelly i completely agree with the last half of your comment. Switched pulls decent numbers, its done great for the 1st half of the season but then it dipped. But its won awards, its set some records.. it gets a lot of attention. Thats a good sign for a 3rd season. The only way i see switched getting cancelled after season 2 is if the ratings dip really low im talking 0.2 0.3 thats low even for ABCFamily. Also since Secret life is done at the end of its season, it will give the other decent shows on the network more of a chance to shine. Promos for the last 3 or so years have been about Secret life and PLL.. dont get me wrong i love PLL and i watched Secret Life for a while till it go so bad it was more of a comedy lol. But i think some of the other shows are way better, and just need a chance. ABCFamily is pretty much the only channel i watch for tv shows.. that and NBC, USA, and this year CBS. But i watch 1 show on each of those networks and 4 on ABCFamily.
Sucks, next week’s Alphas finale looks amazing. Wish a 3rd Season was coming.
If ‘Switched’ starts getting anything below 0.6 on a regular basis it will get cancelled. Mark my words. As long as it can stay at at least a 0.6 on a regular basis it’ll be fine for another season or two, but if it starts doing 0.5 or lower it’s done, regardless of any awards or acclaim.
Royally bad news for Alphas.
Sometimes I get the feeling people follow shows based on the bandwagon effect. They want to be able to relate to all their cool friends so they watch the popular shows like the walking dead.
Their friends dont watch alphas (or havent even heard of it) so why should the average joe even bother to watch it ?
Kelly,

Where are these 2.1-2.3 on a regular basis like you claim?
AMC FEARFEST has Jason on all week so that’s what I’ll be watching just got done watching Part 3 with those hot Jason girls including Dana Kimmell.
@Kelly
KYLE XY won the same Critics Award as SAB- so ABC Family has been in esteemed company before.
Major Crimes nearly 1 mln up this week, not surprisingly for a season finale, but great anyway.
There were both wise and unwise moves this season, hope they do better in season 2. Will be waiting for it.
Glad to see the new Adventure Time episode doing so well. POOR SIMON! SO MANY FEELS!
