“Katie” National Ratings – Week 4

Based on National ratings for the week of October 1, 2012, “Katie” delivered the No. 1 position among all freshman and sophomore syndicated talk shows for the 4th straight week with Households (1.7 rating), Total Viewers (2.3 million) and Women 25-54 (1.0 rating).  During the week, “Katie” topped freshman “Steve Harvey” (1.3 HH rating, 1.8 million viewers and 0.9 W25-54 rating), “Jeff Probst” (0.8 HH rating, 990,000 viewers and 0.4 W25-54 rating),  “Ricki Lake” (0.7 HH rating,  949,000 viewers and 0.5 W25-54 rating) and “Trisha” (0.4 HH rating and 581,000 viewers and 0.3 W25-54 rating), as well as besting sophomore “Anderson Live” (1.0 HH rating, 1.3 million viewers and 0.6 W25-54 rating).

 

  • Holding steady, “Katie” retained its week-earlier performance in Total Viewers (2.3 million) and key Women (W25-54/W18-49).

 

  • Out of 17 total shows in the market, “Katie” once again finished among the top-ranked syndicated talk shows for the week in Homes (No. 6), Total Viewers (No. 6) and Women 25-54 (No. 6).

“Katie” is executive-produced by Katie Couric and Jeff Zucker and is distributed by Disney-ABC Domestic Television. Co-executive producers are Kathy Samuels and Michael Bass and the program is directed by Joseph Terry.

    This is the first real time ABC has issued this type of press release for Katie as the ratings have been less than stellar. But the ratings are consistent. It is usually in the top 10 of talk shows but has not broke the top 25 syndicated shows yet. But it has been the #1 new syndicated talk show since it’s debut. The only one that has even gotten close is Steve Harvey.

    I’m sure ABC wishes for better but I’m sure they are not disappointed so far.

    As long as the ratings stay consistent, I’m sure ABC World will be happy with this.

    They aren’t losing tons of viewers as so many predicted when Katie debuted high. They have tapered off very nicely with a very consistent audience.

    Katie Couric is doing well but she is very expensive but she has been consistant. IMO GH is proving its a good lead-in for Katie. Isn’t the Chew kind of delivering near same ratings as Katie on a cheaper budget.

    Steve Harvey IMO is really doing well. His Family Feud is highest rated in 20 years and his talk show has been a hit.

    The biggest dissapointment is Ricki Lake. Her show is absolutely dull and boring nothing like her old fun talk show was. I understand she wanted different but this is a really boring show that needs retooling.

    But from what you read online Katie has not ended up airing behind GH in many areas of the country.

    On several sites I have even read that Katie airs on a lot of NBC affiliates.

    Anderson airs after GH here with Katie following.

    And yes you are right about The Chew and Katie getting relatively the same ratings. The biggest difference is The Chew is paid for fully by ABC and Katie is paid for by ABC World who licenses it to ABC affiliates and other network affiliates. So much of the production costs is set off by those licensing fees.

    Wow ABC!! GH had over 2.7 Million Viewers the same week & 2.0 Household. Face it, GH is really kicking Katie & Chew’s Butts and Tying The View! GH IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE WITH THESE RATINGS!

    Sean, The thing is GH is not in competition with Katie to stay on the air. Katie is syndicated and works off a whole different ballgame. It gets licensing fees not just from ABC affiliates but NBC, CBS and other network affiliates that can air it. ABC is not responsible for all the production costs and doesn’t just have to depend on advertising to make the money. They get part of it from licensing fees.

    As far as The Chew and GH yes they are in competition to stay on the air, but The Chew has one big advantage production costs are cheaper which means it doesn’t have to get as high of ratings to make a profit. It can also be easily sold to ABC’s syndication company and syndicated.

    GH is wholly responsible for its own survival on ABC. It will survive only if its ratings are high enough to offset production costs for the show. Who knows what that is now and what rating they have to get in order to survive. The big thing is they have to get the 18-49 rating up and keep it up. The back and forth up one week and down the next 2 won’t get it.

    Just for perspective, Katie’s household ratings are slightly under what the lowest rated soap, “Days of Our Lives,” gets. Her demo rating is slightly better. So “DAYS” attracts more viewers than Steve Harvey, Jeff Probst, Ricki Lake, or Anderson Cooper.

    Dr. Phil: 3.0,
    Live With Kelly & Michael: 2.6,
    Dr. Oz and Ellen DeGeneres: 2.3 each,
    and Maury: 2.2

    These are the top 5 syndicated daytime talk shows (Katie is #6).

    All 5 get higher household ratings than both GH and Days.
