NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES RAIN DELAY

PUSHES CONCLUSION OF “The X Factor” ‘JUDGES HOMES’ ROUND

TO TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23

Due to tonight’s rain delay of Game #3 of the National League Championship Series, the highly anticipated conclusion of the “Judges’ Homes” round of The X Factor will air in its entirety on Tuesday, Oct. 23 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The competition kicks into high gear on Tuesday, when the judges reveal which four acts in each of the four categories – Teens, Young Adults, Groups and Over 25s – continue and which two acts are eliminated.

Tonight on the West Coast (8:00-10:00 PM PT), an encore broadcast of last Wednesday night’s The X Factor will air. The remainder of The X Factor schedule remains intact, with the first live episodes airing Thursday, Nov. 1 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) and Sunday, Nov. 4 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live-PT tape-delayed).

    Tuesday is the 23rd not 24th.

  • lethargic

    What an epic fail.

    Breaking news: Sports game runs over allotted time for the first time ever! “We had no idea what to do but panic and push buttons!!!!” says TV executive.

  • Colin

    Now the comedy blocked is messed up… -.-

  • J.G.

    If FOX knew there was a rain delay that had the possibility of breaking into the show, why didn’t they put a repeat on? They only have themselves to blame for this.

  • Baqinardo

    That means another The Voice vs Xfactor?
    That’s gonna be awesome. LOL

  • DenverDean

    XF will draw better than comedies, so FOX does not lose here. Simon needs to stop whining. It happened last year – an extra inning game that push start time later. Big deal. FOX also gets to save on repeats for the comedies.

  • Leondre

    I’m just glad FOX isn’t preempting the Sunday comedies

  • Mark

    The Sunday comedies might be preempted by baseball anyway. Game 6 of the NLCS will air on FOX in primetime unless the ALCS goes to Game 7 that night.

    @J.G.
    If FOX knew there was a rain delay that had the possibility of breaking into the show, why didn’t they put a repeat on?

    Because The X Factor was already being preempted for four or five nights due to primetime games.

    The networks deal with sports overruns every year and they aren’t going to throw in the towel and not schedule primetime programming just because they have daytime sports.

    @Colin
    Now the comedy blocked is messed up

    Nonsense. They will just air originals instead of repeats for a week later in the season. It’s not like all of the comedies were airing episodes in production order before this anyways.

    They win the next two weeks. This week (especially if they have to bump Sundays comedies for NLCS game 6) they are going to have some brutal numbers.

    @Leondre

    They might have to. I’m not sure if FOX simply has the option of moving the NLCS game to primetime or if its an automatic thing. I’m sure they would prefer to air baseball from 4:30p-8p and then Animation Domination, if given the choice.

  • Anthony

    No! 2 weeks without New Girl?? I gotta see New Girl!

    “Tuesday is the 23rd not 24th.”

    Fixed.

  • DryedMangoez

    Well Simon’s not happy about what happened tonight. And apparently neither is one of the guys from Simon’s proteges One Direction and their fangirls.

  • Blake

    And then, after being preempted by the X-Factor next Tuesday and airing new episodes the day before Halloween, FOX Tuesday comedies will be preempted again on November 6 for election coverage. Frequent interruptions early in the run don’t usually bode too well for one’s momentum.

    Since the delayed episode of “The X-Factor” already aired in Canada, the candidates who made it have already been revealed on the Internet (including X-Factor’s Wiki page), which – along with going head to head with “The Voice” next Tuesday – might affect the ratings of the episode.

    I knew I should have overridden the voting and put “Blame Canada” on the Fan Excuse Bingo page!

  • Kavyn

    Canada didn’t get the last 15 minutes (CTV chickened out and decided to air the episode where the chick went crazy throwing chairs everywhere during auditions), so we don’t know which two out of Sister C, Lylas and (the boyband) made it. They showed what happened to everyone else.

  • Blake

    @Bill Gorman

    I’m personally more interested in playing Non-Fan Bad Wishes Bingo.

    @Kavyn

    Interrupting a broadcast of a new episode (15 minutes before the end!) to air a portion of a repeat? Did CTV not already have a full episode prior to the broadcast and used a feed that FOX supplied and then cut off? Or did FOX order CTV to stop the broadcast?

    Television in North America is very fascinating to me because of weird situations like these.

  • Kavyn

    Considering we saw a good portion of what the US didn’t see I’m going to say CTV had the full episode and got told by Fox to stop.

  • Ryan

    It seems like a contingency such as shifting the game to FX by 8 PM ET would have been in order, although my guess is that Fox’s contract with MLB doesn’t allow for that. Maybe in the new contract it will, because these baseball numbers are just not that good anymore (especially relative to what something like THE X FACTOR delivers).

  • bart

    Weird decision by FOX/CTV. BTW we all know sister c is going home and the other 2 are staying. Is next wednesday the first liveshow?

  • SJ

    What a mess… you’d think that a network which has to deal with this every year would have some sort of contingency plan for f-in’ rain delays.

    Considering that the chosen contestants are already on Wikipedia and that a portion of the broadcast already aired yesterday, not to mention the fact that hour 1 is going up against The Voice, I expect The X Factor to hit a series low. High 1s in the first hour and mid 2s in the second.

    Also, why do they always preempt the comedies?

    @Ultima

    I’m pretty sure Animation Sunday has already been preempted seeing how Fox aired the Treehouse of Horror episode of The Simpsons two weeks ago. That’s code for no new episodes until after Halloween.
