Which New Broadcast TV Show Will Be Canceled Fourth? (Poll)

10/19 Update: While Private Practice has now been canceled, it wasn't in the poll because it wasn't a rookie show. Proceed as usual!

While it was a distant second in our latest "Who'll be canceled next?" poll, Animal Practice was caught by the cancellation bear today and was the third show of the broadcast season to be canceled.

Which show will be next on the menu of the Cancellation Bear?

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

Because comment thread lawyers are everywhere, let's be clear that for the purposes of this poll "canceled" means removed from its initially scheduled timeslot, either off the air entirely or rescheduled to a burn off timeslot, even if the network *claims* the show will return later (two seasons ago those who answered The Whole Truth in the "next to be canceled" poll ended up being correct, it was removed first among the shows noted and never returned, despite initial ABC claims to the contrary).

What's your guess?

While this poll allows just one answer per person, feel free to expand your choices in the comments.

    Gotta be The Mob Doctor.

ABC’s first will be The Neighbors. Their Wednesday numbers are down significantly, and I believe it’s partly due to TN doing so poorly at 8:30pm – it completely breaks the flow that the night had going for it last season. It’ll be replaced with repeats of MF, and in January, something from ABC’s ample mid-season cupboard. 666 and Last Resort will ride out their 13 before disappearing – they’re doing poorly, but they’re not taking anything else down with them.

Well, CBS and NBC has already cancelled new series this season. I think it might be time for ABC to pull the trigger. 666 Park Avenue is really not performing well out of Revenge. Will they really allow these low numbers during sweeps? ABC knows they could do better. Even Pan Am was doing somewhat better at this time last year.

What were the first 2 to be cancelled?

  • Morgan Wick

If the next show is cancelled before the World Series and isn’t Mob Doctor, maybe you should say “who’ll be fifth to be cancelled, other than Mob Doctor?”

I’m voting 666 is next goner for the new kids, but I’m thinking UAN will be the next meal for the bear. Stuff the peacock w/ UAN & serve with a chilled Moose Head Lager & the bear will have a nice meal.

Lots of people pick Partners but I wonder if maybe CBS will let that one go on for a little while longer or move it to another timeslot. CBS has consistently gotten a failing grade (for 4 years in a row) from GLAAD for their lack of Gay characters/series. This is their one show that’s got some gay content that they can point to.

I’m going to say Mob Doctor (again) and something else will get axed first (again)

I think if they started promoting The Following now

There was a commercial for The Following during Mob Doctor’s pilot, and one last night during American Horror Story: Asylum (on demand, anyway).

“Well, CBS and NBC has already cancelled new series this season. I think it might be time for ABC to pull the trigger.”

Interesting theory. Perhaps an enterprising commenter would like to look at recent history and see if making multiple cancellation announcements before the competitors made even one was something that did or didn’t happen. My memory is so terrible I can’t recall.

I hear from a couple of reviews that The Following is too gory for it’s 9pm (I assume) timeslot.

Would that prevent it from being a hit, ratings wise like Revolution?

  • MattM

Really, did they give a premier date. Last I checked there was still no premier date given.

  • Phil

NBC could cancel more, faster. New scheduling team with no attachment to these shows. Sure, the top brass is the ultimate say (but all these new shows suck) but new schedulers bring new strategies.

  • Doug

666 is probably safe for now. It’s in an isolated timeslot, and ABC demonstrated last year that they were willing to let Pan Am ride out the timeslot even with low 1s. Besides, what would they replace it with? It’s not worth replacing right now – not until January when they can throw some promotional muscle behind a new show.

The Neighbors is next – mark my words.

  • Phil

Just January, MattM. Probably would wait for the Monday after an NFL Playoff game to promote and away from the Golden Globes on NBC.

  • MattM

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.

  • Kyle

I would say ABC is next. The Neighbors and 666 are a coin flip for me.

  • Jon23812

FOX will probably just let Mob Doctor run it’s course and not renew it for a second season, and they don’t have a show to replace Ben & Kate.

So my next guess is Emily Owens.

  • GeekinTexas

So, you’re saying that Animal Practice was the fourth to be canceled, and your poll is asking what the fourth show to be canceled will be?

Hmmm. The obvious Animal Practice choice isn’t there.

  • Mike

First, the reason the Revolution and Go On are still on the “which show will be cancelled next poll” is because Bill puts ALL of the new shows on the poll. You will also notice that Malibu Country is on the poll and it hasn’t premiered yet.

I don’t think Mob Doctor will get cancelled until after the 11/5 episode (the last episode before sweeps).

I think ABC will follow the same pattern with 666 as they did with Pan Am, just air the 13 episodes and be done with it.

My guess as the the next cancelled show is Partners.

  • Dan

If no cancellations are made between now and November 6 than Mob Doctor will be cancelled fourth. Thats a simple explanation.

My guess is Last Resort or 666 Park Avenue but I think ABC may let those two ride into the season.
