Which New Broadcast TV Show Will Be Canceled Fourth? (Poll)

10/19 Update: While Private Practice has now been canceled, it wasn't in the poll because it wasn't a rookie show. Proceed as usual!

While it was a distant second in our latest "Who'll be canceled next?" poll, Animal Practice was caught by the Cancellation Bear today and was the third show of the broadcast season to be canceled.

Which show will be next on the menu of the Cancellation Bear?

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

Because comment thread lawyers are everywhere, let's be clear that for the purposes of this poll "canceled" means removed from its initially scheduled timeslot, either off the air entirely or rescheduled to a burn off timeslot, even if the network *claims* the show will return later (two seasons ago those who answered The Whole Truth in the "next to be canceled" poll ended up being correct, it was removed first among the shows noted and never returned, despite initial ABC claims to the contrary).

What's your guess?

While this poll allows just one answer per person, feel free to expand your choices in the comments.

    “Since sweeps start next week…when do you think the Bear will feast on the next show?”

    It’s *got* to be either Partners or Mob Doctor, and I’d have thought that if they were getting yanked prior to Oct 25, the news would have to be out already, and yet, nothing.

    Perhaps a coming headline “Is 13 and done, the new yank it off the schedule mantra?”

  • Michael

    Hurry Up FOC and cancel The Mob Doctor!!!

    @Bill
    “Interesting theory. Perhaps an enterprising commenter would like to look at recent history and see if making multiple cancellation announcements before the competitors made even one was something that did or didn’t happen. My memory is so terrible I can’t recall.”

    Taking a quick flick back through your archives the early cancellation order in recent years seems to be:
    2009: CW (TBL); NBC (Southland); NBC (Trauma); ABC*2 (Eastwick & Let’s Dance)
    2010: Fox (Lone Star); NBC (Outlaw); Fox (Undercovers)
    2011: NBC (Playboy Club); NBC (Free Agents); CW (H8R); CBS (How To Be A Gentlemen); ABC (Charlie’s Angels)

    Though I can’t be sure that I haven’t missed any

    @hammard, interesting. That seems to say there’s no particular “wait for the other guy” pattern at work in any given year.

    what shows have been canceled?

  • ezduzit

    @Bill–

    Regarding Partners, you seem to keep making excuses for your poor predictions (now it’s 13 & done). Let me ask you this one question. In all your expertise, is it typical for a network to cancel a show whose ratings are going UP?

    Didn’t think so. See you on the back nine.

  • Honey Badger

    I say in 3 weeks the Cancellation Bear and his friends Disney’s Country Bear jamboree, will feast on Nashville on ABC

  • Jon

    @ezduzit

    It’s cuz of the following reasons:

    1) Partners is currently the lowest rated sitcom CBS.

    2) It’s doing horribly demo wise compared to last year ( when two broke girls took that time slot)

    3) a 2.1 on CBS on a Monday is not up to CBS standards…especially when their avg is closer to a 3.0.

    4) and finally the most funny part: Made in Jersey… a Friday show had more viewers than this. And where is made in Jersey now?

    But please…keep playing Fan Excuse Bingo buddy.

  • Jon

    @ezduzit

    btw, plateauing on what was already soft ratings=/= ratings going up.

  • jcc

    noboby on this site seems to hear me !!! fox likes the mob dr – they want to nourish the show because its good ! i hate to ruin it for all you numbers guys out there but the show isnt gonna cancel !!!! either you watch it or talk about another show that will get eating by that cute bear yoggie that you guys love – now lets all omit you were wrong including bill who said it was 100% cancelled

    Partners and Mob Doctor seem the most likely options given their ratings, but do CBS and FOX have shows ready to replace them right away?

  • Jon

    @Honey Badger

    Thank you the reasons why Bill’s prediction haven’t been up to par was because networks this yr have been somewhat unpredictable. The only show that got cancelled outright has been Made in Jersey. All the other shows have been cancelled way later than they should have and we have one show that if it was two years ago wouldve got cancelled 5 min after it aired ( The Mob Doctor). But at the end of the day, these shows mentioned on the Renew/Cancel section week by week will get cancelled, unless a 30 Rock like miracle happens.

  • Jon

    @ Holly

    Partners = Rules of Engagement

    The Mob Doctor= Touch ironically… though I doubt they will do that.

  • Carmen

    By the ratings it would seem that Mob Doctor would be the best guess and that is what I based my vote upon.

    However, – with that said – It would also seem that if the Mob Doctor was going to be cancelled before sweeps that it would already have been announced, and Fox would be promoting the replacement show during the baseball playoffs and world series.

    The next best candidate would seem to be Partners.
    As one commentator mentioned earlier, though, CBS may have political reasons for holding out a little longer on that show.

    Emily Owens is terrible, but its on CW so it will stay awhile regardless of how bad it – and its ratings become.

    So my vote at this time will be Guys With Kids
    – if Fox doesn’t surprise at this late date after somebody wakes up at that network and notices the MD ratings,

    @JJA

    “I guess what I’m asking is why wait to cancel 666 Park Avenue? Or Last Resort? I realize the CW may not have a choice, but ABC has options.”

    Such as? Neither show is dragging anything with it and neither shows’ ratings are THAT terrible to merit being pulled immediately. ABC has to fill these time slots with something. Seems like they’re better off just letting these shows play out their 13 episode orders and then reorganizing in January.

    My predictions are always which shows will be canceled or renewed before the end of the season. I place no significance on my guesses on the *order* of the cancellations.

    Partners will be gone well before the end of the season, and like other crazy fans of doomed shows before you, you will be too.

    We hear you. You’re just not making any sense.

  • Kenny

    Neighbors…..It`s beyond awlful and 2nd choice is Partners please get this off the air…PLEASE!!!!!!!

  • jon

    @Kenny

    as much as i agree with you…with that timeslot and its ratings…its not doing bad. Its beating everything except Survivor and Xfactor in its slot. Sadly unless it goes below 1.5 ( its been steady between 1.9-2.1 the lsst 3 eps) it might last a season…unless any of the rest of ABC new comedies do better.
