10/19 Update: While Private Practice has now been canceled, it wasn't in the poll because it wasn't a rookie show. Proceed as usual!
While it was a distant second in our latest "Who'll be canceled next?" poll, Animal Practice was caught by the Cancellation Bear today and was the third show of the broadcast season to be canceled.
Which show will be next on the menu of the Cancellation Bear?
Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.
Because comment thread lawyers are everywhere, let's be clear that for the purposes of this poll "canceled" means removed from its initially scheduled timeslot, either off the air entirely or rescheduled to a burn off timeslot, even if the network *claims* the show will return later (two seasons ago those who answered The Whole Truth in the "next to be canceled" poll ended up being correct, it was removed first among the shows noted and never returned, despite initial ABC claims to the contrary).
What's your guess?
While this poll allows just one answer per person, feel free to expand your choices in the comments.

As cliche as it sounds… the mob doctor. I mean, i dont understand how it can still be airing. It has a replacement (although touch wouldn’t pull significantly higher ratings), the perfect opportunity and time to promote said replacement, abismal ratings… It’s just bizarre.
Other options include 666, neighbours, partners and guys with kids. I think last resort will air all 13.
The biggest surprise this season is how The Neighbors manages to keep an audience despite horrible reviews. I don’t think that it is going to get axed anytime soon. In the meantime, Nashville’s drop in ratings doesn;t mean it’s gone but it does suggest that The Neighbors is going to last a lot longer because it pretty much had the same ratings.
With all the new ABC shows performing bad-to-average ratings, I think two (the shows mentioned above) are going to get full seasons and renewals just so that the network saves face.
I bet right on Animal Practice, so maybe I can go on a little bit more:
#4 – Mod Doc
#5 – Guys With Kids
#6 – Partners
#7 – 666 Park Avenue
#8 – Last Resort
#9 – Chicago Fire
Yay! I got the second cancellation right.
Cancellation Calendar-
Pre-November Sweeps (Now-Oct 24): Partners
November: The Mob Doctor
December (no midseason return): The Neighbors, Guys With Kids
Jan-Apr: 666 Park, Vegas, Chicago Fire, Emily Owens, MD
May: Beauty & The Beast, Ben & Kate, either Nashville or Last Resort, The Mindy Project
@Nick
You;re too optimistic about Last Resort, I;m not surprised if it is the first show that gets pulled for ABC.
I agree with most of your predictions except I;ll switch The Neighbors with Last Resort and add The New Normal for May.
It will be Mob Doctor for sure. It’s the lowest rated new show on a major network. The Following will debut after the World Series.
my wishful thinking keeps me picking the neighbors
@KJ Styles
The Following will debut after the World Series.
There’s absolutely no chance of that happening. FOX is already running promos for a January premiere of The Following.
@Holly
Partners and Mob Doctor seem the most likely options given their ratings, but do CBS and FOX have shows ready to replace them right away?
FOX has Touch ready to go (or so you would think given that it was originally scheduled to premeire next week).
CBS has Rules of Engagement ready to go (it’s been filming this month).
I’m very surprised that CBS hasn’t pulled Partners yet. There’s no new episode next week, so it was a good time to switch shows.
I doubt FOX will use Touch on Monday though. Maybe they’ll run double episodes of Bones (either two originals or one repeat) for two or three weeks during sweeps?
@Carmen
Emily Owens is terrible, but its on CW so it will stay awhile regardless of how bad it – and its ratings become.
The CW has shown a willingness to pull shows with horrid ratings early in the fall and just fill the space with repeats before. If Emily Owens falls to a 0.3 next week, I don’t see it airing a fourth episode.
So my vote at this time will be Guys With Kids
I think it is unlikely that NBC will pull the show before seeing how it performs with Whitney.
To al you know it alls:
FACT. Partners is a NEW episode this Monday.
FACT. It was not performing worse than Made in Jersey. Not even close.
FACT. It can’t be compared to 2BG’s demo #s from last year’s time slot. It’s irrelevant. In case you haven’t noticed, numbers are down this season across the board.
FACT. Its ratings are going up. Number 2 in its time slot this week.
FACT. It’s not going anywhere and neither am I.
I honestly think that ABC should cancel Last Resort now and move Nashville to its place. Nashville fits well with Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal with female leads.
Bill – can you be specific on what makes no sence on my statements – also can you again confirm that you said mob dr is 100% cancelled ! – thanks !
@Ezduzit,
FACT: CBS has two comedies waiting in the wings for replacements/midseason
FACT: Partners is by far the lowest rated comedy on CBS.
FACT: CBS always cancels their lowest rated sitcom.
FACT: Winning a time slot has yet to stop CBS from canceling anything.
CBS either dumps a show, pushes the replacements to Saturday burn-off, or adds an hour of comedy. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that they aren’t going to keep Partners over a more successful comedy. It’s numbers are certainly not high enough to convince them to push their other shows to burn-off. And it is incredibly unlikely that CBS will expand their comedy since the only weak spots are Sundays or 10 pm, neither of which are optimal for a new block (and Partners is just barely beating those hours).
You can blather on about that little bump all you want, but until Partners starts beating at least one of the other comedies, it’s bear chow.
@Ultima,
Thanks. I’ve lost track of who has what shows and am apparently too lazy to look them up.
666 is actually a really interesting show. I am surprised that it is struggling. The Mob Doctor gets my vote for the third time running.

For all The Neighbors haters out there, trust me it is going to get a full season pickup this week or the next!!!!
I’m man enough to admit when I was wrong. I was misinformed. Partners is a repeat Monday due to the debates. Ratings will tick up the following Monday. You’ll see.
@Holly
You definitely validate your ‘it doesn’t take a genius’ remark… Of course, it’s CBS’s lowest rated comedy. It’s also its only new comedy on the fall schedule. Did anyone expect it to surpass the ratings of established hits like HIMYM, 2BG, TBBT, 21/2M or even M&M. By your logic, being that it’s the only new comedy and since CBS always cancels its lowest rated comedy, it would have to topple one of the aforementioned behemoths to stay on the air. That makes zero sense. Why even air it at all since there is little chance of any new comedy doing that? If you can’t judge it by how it does in its time slot than what can you judge it by?
Of the 2 comedies waiting in the wings, you have the untested, unknown Friend Me, with even less established lead talent than Partners, and time slot spackle, RofE, which we all know will not get more than a 2.5 in that slot. Hell, if it were in that much demand it would be on the fall schedule. You guys all sound like hysterical football fans calling for the back up quarterback, ignoring the fact that there is a reason why he is the back up.

You’re off to a bad start.
FACT. Its ratings are going up. Number 2 in its time slot this week.
2.4, 2.1, 1.9, 2.1 isn’t really going up. Also, it was #3 in its timeslot (Voice, MNF) – not that it is relevant in any way.
It can’t be compared to 2BG’s demo #s from last year’s time slot. It’s irrelevant. In case you haven’t noticed, numbers are down this season across the board.
Right, the comparison isn’t to 2 Broke Girls last season, the comparison is to the performance of CBS’ other comedies this season. CBS’ next lowest comedy is performing ~40% better than Partners over the past three weeks.
FACT. It’s not going anywhere and neither am I.
Partners will definitely be canceled, the only question is if it happens before airing all 13 episodes.
I’m glad you’re sticking around, I enjoy mocking the delusional.
