ABC has opted not to pick up the back nine episodes of Private Practice. Episode 613 will be the series finale. Star Kate Walsh announced last spring that she would be leaving the show after this season's thirteenth episode. According to Deadline, ABC and showrunner Shonda Rhimes came to a mutual decision to end this show. The show has struggled in the ratings since moving to Tuesday at 10PM. The most recent episode on October 9 garnered a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating and ranked last in the time period. Rhimes tweeted a note to fans that reads in part, "I’m sad to say that Private Practice’s run will end after episode 613 this season. There was a lot of discussion and debate but, in the end, the guys at the network and the studio and I all decided that Private Practice was reaching its finish line." You can read the rest here.

    It started making me crazy with Kate trying to have a baby, and then Addison gets the baby and Sam gets all pissy about it. Then Addison is trying to move on, even though she still loves Sam.Blah blah.
    Needless to say that Addison was the most depressing to me. Find a man already and move on in your life.
    I guess Grey’s will be next. They also are running out of stories. It’s another blah, blah, blah moment.
    Hope something good comes on for 2013. And that they networks all start having REALITY SHOWS! Gosh I hate them!

    Six seasons and a movie?

  • ABC hater

    This should’ve been done a long time ago. This show clearly showed by its second season that it couldn’t walking with its own legs, always relying on Grey’s to get good ratings. Anyway…

  • Leandro

    Does any character from PP goes to Grey’s Anatomy?

  • Bob Jones

    @Squinty – Private Practice has the Six Seasons . . .

    So, I guess we need the movie! [with special guest star Archer Montgomery and Preston Burke]

  • Justin121

    If any show gets a movie, it’s gonna be REVENGE, Scandal, or Castle.

    Can’t wait to see a Revenge movie :D

    I am a HUGE fan of PP and I have to say I am relieved for two reasons: there is no way the show would have worked without Kate Walsh and to be frank the show was struggling for storylines especially in season 4 which was a complete MESS!

    No surprise here. Shonda killed this show when she decided to put Scandal behind Greys. PPP never recovered from the move. My guess is that Kate was not happy and she decided to leave. She has plenty of things going on with her perfume business anyways. But I would not have her back on Greys at all. Even though she says she would be open to the idea. I do hope they send Amelia to Greys. SGMW needs a neuro attending now that Derek is out of commission. Ooo, she can be the love interest for Karev. They have both find through a lot of crap and have survived. This season is shaping up to be the best in a long time. They are going cable-dark with the storylines. Shonda is going all out and its working.

    This was expected. Its ratings were really bad, but then to be fair, its lead in is horrible as well.
    If Scandal gets cancelled too, than maybe Shonda can just concentrate on making Grey’s better again to what it once was, instead of the bad writing she’s given us in the past few seasons.

    Excellent news, that we will get more episodes of Modern Family and The Middle. This is great :)

    @Justin121

    No, Desperate Housewives would make the most awesome movie, although a Revenge movie would be awesome as well :)

    this was expected. i have loved this show since the beggining. it had its ups and highs, of course, as any other show, but at some points, i even felt it was better than greys. I always felt that it was very underrated. This being said, I was hoping they would end it after the 13 episodes, as it would not make sense to continue with the show without addison, and also because the ratings were already tanking too much and the only they would achieve would be a cancelation instead of a proper ending to all characters, which is what they will get this way. I hope they send Amelia, who has turned into my favorite PP character during her amazing season 5 storyline to Seattle Grace. She would fit there just fine and I agree with what someone said, she could be a love interest to Karev.

    I don’t watch this one, but I guess this is good news for either Castle or Scandal. Will Body of Proof replace it in February or they will try one of the new dramas, I wonder…

    As for “killing the show”, for several years many complained the GA lead in was wasted on it instead of using it to launch a new one. Then again before PP moved there, that wasn’t helping Big Shots or Life On Mars either.

    2 People saying the same thing by other words about Amelia? Amelia, that barely has fans on twitter? Wonder if this is the return of the PR people passing themselves has fans trying to whip-up some kind of fan response.

    All ABC has for midseason is Zero Hour, Body of Proof and Red Widow. They’ll definitely need something for Sundays at 10 and now this. So my guess is:

    ZERO HOUR: Tuesdays at 10.
    BODY OF PROOF: Fridays at 10 (maybe at 9, if the comedy block doesn’t work).
    RED WIDOW: Sundays at 10.

    Scandal should earn a back 9 now, they’ll want to give Shonda some treat after this.

  • were123

    So this was, indeed, the final season. Luckily Shonda knows and can make a good finale for the fans

  • Jarrod

    I’m not sure why articles (even yours) can say that Private Practice was canceled when ALL of the articles I’ve read have stated: “ABC and showrunner Shonda Rhimes came to a mutual decision to end this show”. Obviously both parties decided to end it and it wasn’t a choice made by ABC themselves.

  • danny94

    good news for fans. we can have a proper end

  • Dan S

    It’s been widely assumed BOP would replace PP after the 1st of the year. I’m hoping that ABC tries out Last Resort out on Tues at 10pm before pulling the plug. With a lot of their other new fall shows bombing LR might get lucky & get a back 9 & hopefully get a shot at a more appropriate 10pm slot.

    Greg,

    Scandal’s fate depends on whether Nashville holds or not, or it’s back 9 would have been announced now. ABC also announced that they gave 2 new episode order to 666PA and Last Resort, and ordered extra episodes for GA, MF and Castle. They were cleaning house this week, and no news on Scandal is not necessarily good news.

    It means that they still will not keep it if Nashville doesn’t slide anymore and are totally prepared to ax it if Nashville holds from now on.

  • Jere

    Well hey 6 seasons and still enough time to finish right. If only CBS would take a page from abc and do that with shows that have been on for 8 plus years. Cold case without a trace and csi Miami just to name a few. I think that’s part of the reason why CBS raitings are down. Why try a new show on CBS that might not get a real ending. Props to abc for at least making the choice before it ended. I know bro and sis didn’t get the ending I wanted and prob another reason y sun at 10 suck for them.

    @Greg

    “Scandal should earn a back 9 now, they’ll want to give Shonda some treat after this.”

    Maybe its just PR spin and they’ll change if the show is more successful, but I believe the plan with Scandal is to have just 13 episodes seasons.
