ABC has opted not to pick up the back nine episodes of Private Practice. Episode 613 will be the series finale. Star Kate Walsh announced last spring that she would be leaving the show after this season's thirteenth episode. According to Deadline, ABC and showrunner Shonda Rhimes came to a mutual decision to end this show. The show has struggled in the ratings since moving to Tuesday at 10PM. The most recent episode on October 9 garnered a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating and ranked last in the time period. Rhimes tweeted a note to fans that reads in part, "I’m sad to say that Private Practice’s run will end after episode 613 this season. There was a lot of discussion and debate but, in the end, the guys at the network and the studio and I all decided that Private Practice was reaching its finish line." You can read the rest here.

@Babygate Some people are not able to understand there is a difference between reality and fiction, some even spend their lives on twitter LOL

Maybe Shonda can have a day off now she won’t have 3 shows

I will miss this show :(

It was its time. There is no show without Kate Walsh anyway.

    Next up, Scandal!

I don’t think a main character leaving necessarily would mean the end of the spinoff. A Different World anyone? :) Granted, Lisa Bonet went back to Cosby, but, still.

I was never a weekly viewer of the show- caught it at times, but not at all this season.

PP was cancelled. There was talk of a full season before season 6 started and it wasnt offically the final season. So yeah its cancelled.

But still i hate ABC for sacrificing this for Scandal. PP was in mid 2.s behind Greys. Scandal would be at mid 1.s without Greys.

ABC should air the series finale after Grey’s. Wishful thinking I know. ;)

    In answering to you:

    1) ABC has already announced that Primetime Nightline will be on Fri@9 in March. Do you want LMS and MC to move to 8 pm after Shark Tank airs all its (22) episodes? That’s entirely possible, because it started earlier and there’s no debate or awards interruputions on Friday.

Yeah, I think the comedies could move to 8 after they had been launched in the fall with the confortable shark tank lead in. They would likely do worse than at 9pm but overall ABC would be better of.

    2) What’s going to be on while DWTS: Results is between cycles?

Yeah, well, that’s a problem. I suppose they could put Zero Hour there. The thing is, ideally, I would move the happy endings/apartment 23 block to 8. I think it would work soo much better there. The Voice has a higher audience overall, that’s true, but the cross audience with New Girl and Mindy is higher I think, especially new girl. And when new girl launched its season it did equally well on the 8pm splot so I actually think its doable. If that was the case, then a compatible drama could go to 9pm following the comedies. I would even say Last Resort, but the problem is that NCSI La is too strong for a male skewing show there. The truth is that ABC just does not have another drama that is strong enough to anchor a 9pm hour which is sort of attrocious. Anyway, as ABC will insist on having the DWTS show at 8, I think what will just happen is that they will give neighbours a full season and just put the comedies there at 8 as they had planned. they will bomb for sure, yeah, but i dont see what else they have at this point.

A case could be made to put the TGIF comedies there, at tuesday at 8, since fridays are doing just fine on their own, but i dont see it happening, neither i think its such a good idea.

@ JR – i see your point, but lisa bonet moved to a different world and only stayed for the season. also, the full show wasn’t built around her. this show was built around addison’s journey.

meaning i didn’t see or even really want a future without kate walsh. though i really grew to love charlotte and cooper. they’re what i’ll miss about this show the most. but it was time. plain and simple.

I’m happy to hear that ABC learned their lesson from “AfterS*C*R*U*B*S.”

Another show down. Still want Men in Trees back…am I alone in this? Hmmm.
I haven’t loved the show this season but still have had hope for a better future for these characters.
