On what's likely to be a slow news Friday (unless Partners or The Mob Doctor get canceled at 7pm Eastern today), frequent commenter Julia tipped us to this video which I think will interest many of our readers.

Enjoy.

Didn’t Fox already make Dinosaur Detective and name it Terra Nova?

    @Voltron.
If fantasy and nudity are the only things you noticed about Game of Thrones, then you aren’t really watching. Plus, the idea that male nudity is somehow worse is very shallow. Equal opportunity, right?

LOTR and GoT are not similar. LOTR had a strong moral compass of good vs. evil that drove literally the entire plot. GoT is more character driven. No single character is moral. They’re human. Fantasy is more of a jumping off point for GoT as a character drama. If anything GoT is more of a white-people-problems mixed with evil-but-likeable-protagonist, except there isn’t really a main protagonist. There’s several. Maybe you just hate fantasy/future/non-real-life-based shows. Nothing wrong with that.

Was it strange that when they were inventing the Wire I was thinking of Lost?

@Voltron re “Game of Thrones is LOTR the series, if everyone was constantly banging each other in Middle Earth and walking around naked.”

Y’know, i think i would have enjoyed that version of LoTR WAY more than the original.

But that analogy is like saying that STRIKEBACK is PLATOON the series, if everyone was constantly banging each other between firefights and walking around naked.

I still don’t understand why Friends always gets railed as the white people show. There have been shows with larger white casts with more shallow characters than that. Friends was very white, I’ll grant you, but Seinfeld, Cheers, and MASH were just as white. Look how white The Brady Bunch was. They had one black kid on throughout the entire run, and that was the show trying to launch a pilot episode of another show.

Personally, I just don’t find Friends funny. Way overrated, imo…

I’m not fond of the trend of putting internet articles up as videos without a text version for those who would rather read.

This was actually very funny, with a surprising amount of character development for just a seemingly low budget internet video. I still feel like it’s easy to play play devil’s advocate here, because, in the end, they weren’t able to come up with a viable, original pilot idea either. Also, Heroes was on NBC, not Fox. Overall, I agree with mostly everything they said and especially loved the CBS and NBC quips.

Where does a show like Fringe or Lost or Revolution fit into this? (Yes they are all essentially the same show… I get it… but they didn’t list that type of show…

  • Adam3648

    Loved it!

  • Melanie

‘I’m just gonna run to my car and get some figurines.’ LOL

I think the point was that “Friends” was still the “white show” because they lived in a bubble where you didn’t see non-whites in the background of an “urban” city, and this was post 2000 A.D.. Every U.S. city in the Top 10 of population has a large non-white consituancy, yet the cast never seems to encounter anyone of color darker than pink.

ross had a black gf in the last season, granted she was a collegue at the museum or a fellow paleontologist(so high education profile)

First off, if those people are so smart, where is their high rated show on a big network showing their names in the opening?

And about the white people show, if u watch in the backround there are alot of non whites. And there used to be a lot of tv shows with all black characters, which were really good and funny, now there is always that one black guy in a bunch of white people. I don’t have any problem with it, if it fits the show and story, but if they are just in the show so that people can’t complain and call it white people show it’s just no good.

  • KevinUSA USAforever

Why can only shows that are “complicated”, also known as shows that get 6 season and don’t have a single plot, be called good.

A show can be good wether it’s an easy to understand procedural or a show that makes us think about it for the rest of the night. What matters is if it’s well written and well acted for what it’s supposed to be. A lot of show try to be something they’re not.

And that video above is just a load of crap, they should be tv critics, since they complain but can’t come up with anything on their own.
And NBC comedies aren’t that funny. If they would be really that good, more people would watch them, not just liberal college kids.

But what’s with all the new tv shows and the B***** words in the title, i mean the shows really on air, not just the ones in the video. Probably to get younger viewers.
