    There is no proof that’s publicly available to either bolster or discredit the “Show X is doing well in international syndication” argument. Such numbers are simply not made public. People try to guess based on the number of countries that airs “Show X.” They assume that shows airing at 6 p.m. are doing better than are programs airing at 3 a.m.

    All that said, the U.S. syndication market is the one that will determine any American show’s fate. Other countries don’t pay enough money to keep a U.S. program going that would otherwise be canceled.

    Nikita is one of the only shows that can reach those demos because of how much money it makes.

    @PinoyTVCritic

    That’s a great NBC schedule!

    @Pappy

    How do we know it makes a lot of money?

  • Grimman

    Is Crossbones set to air midseason, or are they just starting filming? I thought I read it was going to debut early next year. With Neil Cross writing (BBC1 Luther) it has to be good!

    @Sid

    Their refusal meant nothing, I guess. Pedowitz has ordered 23 episodes for both SPN and VD. All other returning shows has 22.

    I’m a little surprised CW hasn’t announced Nikita’s renewal. :D It is after all, CW’s monster hit. :D :D :D :D :D

    @PinoyTVCritic, regarding your proposed midseason lineup the 1 problem I see is on Sat. I can’t imagine NBC airing SNL in primetime or moving Dateline to Sat. On Sun they’ll likely standby their original schedule of Dateline at 7pm, FS at 8pm, CA at 9pm & DNH at 10pm. The rest of the week looks plausible but they’ll likely stick with Dateline on Fri at 10pm.

    The only reason Nikita got a 3rd season over Ringer and Secret Circle was purely because of syndication and international sales. If Nikita were in it’s first season with ratings like last year, it would have been scrapped and TSC would have made it. Plain and simple.

    When they made the decision to renew, they likely already were in the mind set of giving it a fourth and final season for syndication, otherwise they would LOSE MONEY! Just because Nikita isn’t making money in the US (shock horror, the US isn’t the be all and end all) doesn’t mean it’s not performing BETTER in international markets. It consistently lands in the top 3 of the ratings in the UK for Sky Living (a subsidiary of the biggest cable network in Europe) meaning, it’s pulling in the big bucks in the largest international market. Netflix also bought the show and likely signed a deal with CW meaning they get more money, the longer the show survives.

    To conclude, CW are likely making money from Nikita, irrespective of it’s ratings in the US. They will make even more with the syndication deal. Brace yourself for it’s renewal announcement, because I know a lot of you are going to have multiple heart attacks when it happens.

    @Dan S

    The question if SNL would rate higher on primetime or on its current latenight timeslot?

    I would rather air Dateline on Saturdays as it is now in 3rd Place on fridays. L&O: SVU, though an aging show, could help boost Fridays, with the multi-cam sitcoms on 8-9.

    Nikita’s ratings have gave me thought lately. i’m not a optimist, but i’m wondering why CW renewed it for a 3rd season, the ratings were horrible last year, and everyone knew that, it’s kinda like a miracle.

    so the CW couldn’t be renewed it for the ratings, there gotta be other factors that CW looked into, whether it’s the oversea market(people kept saying that nikita has big overseas, well, i didnt saw any solid proof or data, so…) or syndiction,or any other reasons, i dont know. but we can be sure that the show is still profitable for CW. and it has nothing to do with the ratings, no matter how horrible the ratings are, it wont affect the profit. What i’m trying to say is ratings kinda become an irrelevant factor in this case.

    well, i’m not sure of my asspution, i’m just really curious why CW renewed it in the first place. i think it’ll go either way, it only aired the 1st episode.

    wish the show luck :)

    people actually watch shark tank really, wow the decline of our civilization is in a tail spin !!!

    Nikita is fine. I love the ohmaigawd 0.3 end of the world people. Considering that other than 2 shows (tvd and arrow), every single cw show gets about 1/4-1/5 of the rating and viewers of the major networks, Nikita is actually within target. Even the highest rated show for the timeslot only got 1.5 and 5 mil viewers ffs. So having 1/5 of that doesn’t seem so bad at all. Personally, I think all broadcast networks should just give up Friday to sports and reruns because the ratings will always be dismal.

    AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW I’m really disappointed Nikita got a low viewer rating ;( I freaking love that show so much! I hope the next episodes get higher! D:

    SNL in prime. That’s ridiculous.
    They used to air some live on the west coast and they did badly.

  • River

    Still waiting for someone to mention a show doing this badly in the third season that needs more eps for syndication and internationally.

    At some point, they are going to have to pull Nikita off and burn off originals in the summer.

    I am from Puerto Rico and Nikita is aired over here in a local channel, and it’s actually the only CW show that has been a hit over here. Vampire Diaries failed in ratings over here, only season 1 was aired. With Nikita however they already started airing season 2, and its on the second place in the ratings.
