Both New Girl and Raising Hope have gotten orders for two additional episodes, bringing both veteran comedies up to 24 episodes according to Deadline. No announcement has been made about freshman comedy Ben & Kate, which is currently lagging behind with only 19 episodes

They’re not really “veteran” comedies, in my opinion. Once you get to syndication I would consider you a veteran comedy.

But still, good for them! I like both of those shows. Is this (shows getting more episodes) more telling of networks not having anything good for midseason?

  • Nope

Raising Hope is the best comedy on TV

  • marcos

Raising hope is the most underrated sitcom. it’s so freaking hilarious. last wekk episode made me cracked up

  • ChuckieChk

CW gave Beauty & the Beast and Emily Owens, MD 3 additional episodes to

  • Kate

Yay New Girl! 24 episodes this season and an almost certain renewal for next. I wonder how long it’s going to take FOX to renew the show. When do networks usually start early renewals? After sweeps?

  • The End

As much as I like Raising Hope, it’d be nice to see more episodes focusing on Jimmy being a Dad to Hope. Many of the episodes shown thus far have had the child as a background character and not much interaction between Jimmy/the family and Hope. For a show about life raising a baby, it doesn’t work well in that regard. Also, I’m assuming the child is mute as she hasn’t spoken yet(As 3 years of age no less). lol

Less crazy Maw Maw stuff, more Jimmy + Hope stuff.

    @ ChuckieChk

The CW has ordered three more SCRIPTS of “Beauty & The Beast” and “Emily Owens, M.D.”. That’s not an order for more episodes – at least not yet. The network wants to check where the shows are headed to make a decision on ordering more episodes or canceling it.

  • Dan

So I guess Raising Hope will get 90 eps for syndication.

This just means there will be less comedy repeats through May. With 24 for Mindy Project, New Girl, and Raising Hope all 3 comedies will air through May with two less repeats while Ben & Kate will likely air new episodes through February or March until all 19 episodes have aired and it will then be replaced by The Goodwin Games. Its just more episodes for syndication for both New Girl and Raising Hope.

  • Dan S

I like the trend of the networks ordering more episodes beyond the standard 22 for a full season. Less repeats is always good & helps get them to May sweeps. Now can NBC order more Revolution in addition to the overkill given to The Voice ?

  • The End

@Now can NBC order more Revolution in addition to the overkill given to The Voice ?

Not going to happen. Revolution is far more expensive than say 2 half hour episodes of Raising Hope or New Girl.

I don’t think it would do the shows story any good either to be dragged out for a further 2 episodes, should the producers have the series plotted out for 22 episodes for example.

  • Dan

@Lamb Silencer – Thats right and its similar to how 666 and Last Resort got more scripts. Its not new episodes but its to see what the direction the shows will be going in. I expect Beauty and the Beast to get a full season and Emily Owens likely additional episodes. Since CW always cancels a show in the fall its likely Emily could be axed but its also entirely possible that since ANTM wont air a cycle this spring and Gossip Girl will end in December, CW can order more episodes of all 3 new series. They also have Cult and Carrie Diaries for January so I expect Carrie Diaries to replace Gossip Girl on Mondays while CW may move BATB to Fridays paired with Nikita (By March) and then giving Cult a nice lead in from The Vampire Diaries.

    So by January

    8:00 90210
    9:00 Carrie Diaries

    8:00 Hart of Dixie
    9:00 Emily Owens MD

    8:00 Supernatural
    9:00 Arrow

    8:00 Vampire Diaries
    9:00 BATB (Jan-Mar) / Cult (Mar-May)

    8:00 ANTM repeats (Jan – Mar) / BATB (Mar-May)
    9:00 Nikita

This way CW wont have to ax any of their new series and because they started late, they will have less repeats in between new episodes.

  • CrimTV

Once Again, I already thought that these two shows had 24 anyway!

  • ChuckieChk

Lambsilencer, thanks for clarifying what and episode pickup and script pickup means. I just assumed that a script pickup just meant more episodes were a given. Thanks again!

  • Tony ^_^

    Yay! Awesome! :D

  • Ali

What is with networks this season, they all seem to be getting into this fashion of ordering more episodes…not that I mind but it’s strange! Yes, shows used to be 24 episodes before but it has not been the case in years… what changed now? flopping new shows maybe?

  • The Watcher

    @ Ali:
I think you’re right. The nets are doing the same thing I would in their position–more episodes of shows that are a known quantity and cost, fewer ratings-killing reruns, less risk of a new show flopping.

    More Hope is always good.

  • Brandy

Well I know I’m in the minority but all I care about is Raising Hope. New Girl is stank.

  • Nick

I love Raising Hope, even though I’m not caught up. Does anyone know when the season 2 DVD comes out?
(It’s not the most underrated sitcom on TV. That title goes to Ben & Kate [a 1.2? Seriously?])

    Ugh. I hate New Girl.

I can see what they’re doing. They’re spreading RH and NG as much as they can to support both B&K and The Goodwin Games.

    Fox midseason schedule:

    8: Bones
    9: The Following

    8: Raising Hope
    8:30: Ben & Kate (Jan-Apr)/The Goodwin Games (Apr-May)
    9: New Girl
    9:30: The Mindy Project

    8: Idol
9:30: Idol (Jan-Feb)/ The Goodwin Games (Mar-Apr)/ Idol (May)

    8: Idol
    9: Glee

    8: Kitchen Nightmares (Jan-Feb)/Hell’s Kitchen (Mar-May)
    9: Fringe (Jan)/Touch (Feb-May)

    8: Fox Sports Saturday

    7: Cops
    7:30: Animation Domination

Air The Goodwin Games after Idol, then move it to Tues after B&K is done.

  • Brandy

@Nick no news about season two DVDs as far as I know but season two is on netflix.

  • Networkman

This was to be expected. If The Mindy Project received additional episodes, then New Girl and Raising Hope definately deserves that as well. Both are being used to help establish a successful 2 hour comedy night for FOX. In my opinion, this all but ensures that Raising Hope will be back for a 4th season. They must like the direction of the shows and is encouraged by the loyal audience that supports both shows. FOX really believes in building this night.
