The Gloves are Off as THE X FACTOR LIVE Shows Start Thursday, November 1

FOX has ordered a third season of THE X FACTOR, it was announced today by Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“I couldn't be happier about THE X FACTOR already being renewed for another season,” said Simon Cowell. “I am so proud of the show and the team who have made it this season. I want to thank our incredible sponsors for their support and creativity, and FOX for going out of their way to do everything they can to make this show a success. Most importantly, I have to personally thank our amazing fans for the support and enthusiasm they have given to THE X FACTOR. Our main commitment will always be to find great talent, and let's not forget, we are now days away from our first live shows. The gloves are off! Expect fireworks!”

“This season, Simon and the producers of THE X FACTOR took an already strong show and made it absolutely fantastic. The format changes are working, the contestants are unbelievably talented, and Britney and Demi – alongside Simon and L.A – have brought an incredibly fun new chemistry to the judges’ panel that our fans really love,” said Darnell. “We feel great about the show and I’m thrilled to bring it back next year for Season Three.”

“We’re absolutely thrilled that THE X FACTOR will be returning to FOX for a third hit season,” said Trish Kinane, President of Entertainment Programming at FremantleMedia North America. “We’ve seen an incredible range of talent so far and we’re getting set for some truly blockbuster live shows this season that viewers will love. THE X FACTOR has really come into its own this year, finding its unique place and cementing its position as one of the leading talent shows in the entertainment landscape, as well as showing clear potential to build into a brand with true longevity. We’re looking forward to working with the fantastic teams at FOX and Syco, along with our sponsors, to build upon the show’s success.”

Season to date, THE X FACTOR is averaging a 3.9 rating among Adults 18-49 and 10.6 million Total Viewers and is a Top 15 show this fall among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. In addition, THE X FACTOR is a Top 5 entertainment program among Teens this season.

THE X FACTOR continues to break social TV records with the most fan engagement of any series on television and three times the social activity of its genre competitors. Each episode consistently achieves more Twitter trending topics than the competition. The second season premiere of THE X FACTOR shattered the record for a series premiere, garnering 1.4 million social comments, according to Bluefin Labs.

Following schedule changes due to the rain-delayed MLB NLCS game last week, on Tuesday, Oct. 23, the highly anticipated conclusion of the “Judges’ Homes” round of THE X FACTOR will air at a special time from 9:30-10:30 PM ET/PT on FOX. Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato, L.A. Reid and Britney Spears will reveal the 16 acts among the Teens, Young Adults, Groups and Over 25s categories that will continue in the competition.

Next week, the Top 16 acts will perform on a special LIVE two-and-a-half hour show, hosted by Khloé Kardashian Odom and Mario Lopez, on Thursday, Nov. 1 (8:00-10:30 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed).  THE X FACTOR live shows continue on a special night on Sunday, Nov. 4 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) with additional performances and the announcement of the Season Two finalists.

THE X FACTOR was created by Syco Television and is produced by Syco Television and FremantleMedia North America. Rob Wade and Nigel Hall are executive producers for Syco Television. Cool! At least this ensures that The X Factor can bottom out at a 2.0 or something before getting cancelled.

  • Brandon

@Jon23812 It’s all about how you spin it. I think the numbers would be a lot less if Britney was not on it. So in a way, yes, she is helping the ratings. If you had another season with Paula and Nicole, I think the ratings would be really bad right now.

In season 1 they failed to properly promote the reunion of Simon and Paula. Couple that with the fact that Paula is no longer crazy and no one cares about Nicole, you had a so-so season.

The Voice has two big music stars (Levine and Shelton) and two people that are still names in the music industry (Aguilera and Green). All artists. X-Factor should have dropped L.A. Reid and maybe Simon should have transitioned to host. I don’t think people care about his opinion any more.

HATERS are pissed Hahahahaha ! IN YOUR FACE BITCHES aka XTINTA fans !

  • Ian

So happy!! Not surprised at all it’s one of FOX’s highest rated shows! However I doubt Britney will be back next year her pay check is really high and I’d imagine there will be budget cuts.

  • sallu

Give this show one more season. Don’t get these number because so many have switched to The Voice. Final demise will be when Kardashian starts hosting – what a bad move on Simon’s part.

  • MJDB

Very happy, this is a great show. Simon Cowell is America’s judge!

  • RyanCanada

Say what you want about this show, but it is so well done, i love it and the format is so entertaining.

  • Jared

No shock here. Its the highest rated show on FOX. Hopefully they will bring back Britney and Demi as well. I like the fact that there’s no drama between the judges and its actually ALL about the talent.

  • dddddddddddd

Despite some of the cringe-worthy scripted dramas on the show, I enjoy it more than The Voice.

The show isn’t a flop, but it’s also not a hit show either.

I’m glad it’ll be returning though.

  • Chris Brody

Khloé Kardashian guarantees its removal from my dvr schedule.

  • Blake

Can somebody explain to me how the show is averaging a 3.9 in the 18-49 demo this season?

It’s highest rated show was 3.6, the lowest rated show scored 2.9 (and I’m not even counting last week’s botched broadcast with its 2.3 rating).

On Wednesdays it’s averaging 3.4, on Thursdays 3.1. Now where did they get 3.9?

  • Holly

They’re probably using “Most Current” numbers that include the L+7 numbers for the weeks they are available.

  • GoalTV

this show remains unwatchable! I am however excited for THE VOICE tonight! W00t!

  • Blake

Oh, I see. Thanks. I should’ve thought so. After all, it’s a press release.

  • jackson

XFactor renewed during the season. SYTYCD months after its season? Silence. Has it been cancelled?

  • Glue

This show is FANTASTIC and Deserves this. I Like this more than The Voice. I have tried both The Voice and The X Factor and i think The X Factor is the better, more appealing show. Even though it has ‘Fake’ drama (As you haters say) Its still a good show. It makes Kids into stars. Which is what we need. Yes you might complain that they’ll go corrupt because of the media and all but it’s amazing how the show actually makes people.

Rachel Crow got a deal with Nickelodeon for her own SHOW
Marcus Canty Had 2 songs featured in a hit movie and got like #4 or something in the Urban 100.

  • aiden

jajajajaja haters lol jajaja this show is amazing, i can’t wait to watch the premiere here in latin america this thursday….#teambritney……. if the voice has 12 millions of viewers why christina’s single your body is 39 or 40 on itunes ? LOL!

  • Penny

Fox is a mess. And lol at some of u thinking Spears will return next season. :D

  • Zach Helms

Being one of the highest rated shows, this isn’t a surprise. With the crazy amounts of product placement, that has to offset the budget some.

Personally,I find the fake, scripted portions of the show corny and obnoxious, but I still look forward to watching the show every week.

I really like Simon and Demi as judges. L.A. is alright, I think they could do better. Britney does bring in press, but she is absolutely terrible as a judge. I was really excited when I found out she’d be on the show, but she has been a disappointment. She seems so stiff and uncomfortable in front of the camera and she has yet to give any sincere advice. Demi, on the other hand, is doing fantastic and I feel like the show is getting a lot of teen viewers thanks the her.

Each singing show has kind of picked which demographic they are after. X-Factor is obviously young teens, The Voice is 20-30, and American Idol is 30+. Though, with Nicki Minaj as a judge, they may pick up more young viewers.
