Nikita premiered with a "look away" bad 0.3 adults 18-49 rating for its third season. However, when the CW renewed the already poorly rated Nikita for a third season last spring, co-owner Warner Brothers (that produces Nikita) put a stake in the ground that should get it a fourth season to reach 88 episodes for stripped syndication. The other co-owner of the CW, CBS, has done this before with their low rated dramas (most recently, The Good Wife), and I predict will do it again (Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-0).

I'm not going to guarantee Nikita will air during the broadcast season, perhaps the CW will do with it as they have America's Next Top Model and push it off to a mostly or all summer schedule, but those 88 episodes are going to get made, last spring's renewal all but guarantees it.

Emily Owens, MD premiere ratings were woeful too, and it'll probably be in the headline next week.

Because the folks at the CW seem to like short final seasons for their veteran shows, I assume 90210 will be renewed for a 13 episode final season next year, even with its terrible ratings. They could certainly change their tune and cancel it though if schedule time next season gets tight.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Emily Owens already at 0.3 is making Nikita look a bit better (or not as bad as everyone says). It’s just a matter of time before GG and/or 90210 or even HOD fall to 0.3s.

I hope the CW president sees this as a wake-up slap and finally gets some shows that appeal a broad audience. it is clear by now which shows are working and which ones aren’t.

  • Anthony M

I want to spank Maggie Q real bad..

  • Mickey

    @Bill

Could you please find a different Nikita picture to use so we don’t have to read any posts about spanking Maggie Q? Thanks.

  • Jason50

I guess Maggie Q has been naughty. So….so….naughty.

  • Berit

I don’t understand why CW don’t get better ratings. :( I love almost all their shows, Nikita included. And I’m not some teenage girl as most so-called critics seem to think CW viewers are.

  • POI

I think they should cancel B&B, Emily Owns MD and announce this as the final season of 90210, and see if the carries diaries has good ratings then renew it or cancel it but i want them to renew Cult because i think it will be a hit or at least i hope it will be. This leaves many slots for many new shows to come with 90210, GG, B&B, MD, and maybe TCD gone and announce season 4 of nikita to be the last if u renew it. with that there is going to be much improvement for the cw i think and they should bring more shows like Arrow, Supernatural, and TVD because these are the shows that work for them and these kind of shows may keep the network alive and even push the networks ratings up and who know maybe the cw will be a hit in the future, but that will only happen if they commit to making the network a good one and not based on women because to be honest it doesn’t work for them anymore.

I hope Arrow keeps holding strong this year, and if it does, I think the CW should use it to launch a new show that fits the same fanbase, and move SPN to either Monday or Tuesday.
I think SPN’s viewers will go with it no matter which day of the week it’s aired in, and using SPN, the CW could be at least somewhat competitive for another weekday.

  • Scifibookguy

I’ve been watching Arrow since it started, and really enjoy the show. But I just got around today to watching the first two Beauty and the Beast episodes. I was surprised at how much I liked the show :) So I hope they keep B&B!

  • Bizarro

    @Lyreco
I’m not lying I checked wiki and the sources that they posted for the shows I listed. I’m talking about the shows being picked up and shown in countries around the world not DVD sales which only matter on the CW.

  • Clare

Fox should by Warner Bros so they can give Nikita the Dollhouse finale. I can’t believe these low rated shows are passing by because of DVD sales or sydication so the network can make a buck. It makes your network look cheap and to the some of the other networks pathetic! I’m starting to wonder with the CW now accepting 0.3′s for renewal if the network will be here after 2016 probably not.

  • Vance

I would move Supernatural to Thursday during the next season. It’s the only show that hasn’t wasted the lead-in that TVD is supposed to provide. SPN won’t get mauled by Grey’s Anatomy unlike shows like The Secret Circle and Beauty & The Beast.

  • Ariadne

This will be CW’s 2013-2014 listing

    Monday
    America’s next top model
    new show

    Tuesday
    Beauty and the beast
    Embrace

    Wednesday
    Arrow
    The Selection

    Thursday
    The Vampire Diaries
    Sleepy Hollow

    Fridays
    Supernatural
    The Hundred

One stupid tv show i read about which is about a boy band and oxygen won’t even get a pick up!

  • Frank

Have The CW ever made a two year renewal?

I mean after Jeremy Carver said he is ending Supernatural on season 10, that could be a safe way for Supernatural to end, I mean, its not like the show’s at risk, but its not a bad idea.

  • capslocke

I think CW Wednesdays will stay in tact next fall. BATB will keep falling and will be at least likely to be cancelled by January. Nikita will probably be renewed for a summer run, unless it manages to work its way up to at least a 0.5 rating, which looks pretty doubtful. Cult will probably take over for ANTM in the spring and not make any great ratings tide, getting cancelled at the end of the season. 90210 will get a shortened final season, and I’m guessing The Carrie Diaries will be a moderate hit. HOD’s chances will probably be determined by: 1. it’s spring ratings, and 2. CW’s developement season. All in all:
RENEWED FOR FALL: TVD, Arrow, Supernatural, 90210 (13-episode final season), The Carrie Diaries, HOD.
RENEWED FOR SUMMER: ANTM (already happened), Nikita.
    CANCELLED: BATB, EOMD.

  • Jason50

Looking at CW’s developmental shows for next fall it looks like they’re focusing on more on scifi, supernatural, and superhero programs.

COPELAND PREP- High school where students are monsters in disguise. Hopefully it’s based on the Japanese manga/anime High School of the Dead
AMAZON- Wonder Woman prequel. Smallville style?
EMBRACE- About a woman who’s half angel. Trying to hype it up drawing comparison to Buffy. At least they didn’t say Lost.
    ALICE IN WONDERLAND
    SLEEPY HOLLOW
    ABADDONS JOURNAL- Another angel series
    THE HUNDRED- Post apocalyptic series.
BATTLE ROYALE- I think that CW’s style won’t do this series justice. It should go on FX or AMC. CW should just stick with THE SELECTION.
OXYGEN- Alien series, drawing comparisons to District 9.
    MISFITS- American remake

  • Bobby C.

Two weeks in and I’m already hooked on the dramedy Emily Owens MD. I hope it stays on.

  • KindredKian

I think this schedule will be a strong one for the CW. I hope I’m right.

  • agnes

If it was up to me, I’ll cancel Hart of Dixie and 90210, despite me watching both of them.
But I’ll trade Hart of Dixie for Emily Owens even though I think EOMD is really starting to get better.

  • Jason Ryan Celeste

certain to be renewed by May, 2012

    you mean 2013 right?

  • gerry

i understand the thought behind cw renewing 90210 for a final season because their shows get a final, but i still think its early enough THIS season for them to announce it as final and sweep through the spring without having to renew for another.
