    @SJ
    Did The Mentalist air in all time zones on Sunday?

    Yes.

    Are its ratings not available because it aired outside of primetime?

    Right. The same thing happened with American Idol last year when FOX started it extremely late; the only reason we saw the ratings was because they did a press release with them.

    The Mentalist had a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating. It wasn’t in the report that Amanda uses to create this table, but it was in our weekly list of all shows. She’ll add it when she has time.

    For those wondering, its start time was listed as 10:56pm Eastern.

  • Ultima

    See, that’s what happens when I assume things! ;)

    “So what is it with CBS? Is it their normal practice to kick around a perfectly good show like The Mentalist, destroying its ratings so no one else will want to buy it?”

    No, I think it’s more about infuriating crazy fans who don’t understand how their business works.

    Mission accomplished!

  • Chris

    @SJ–so your point is that expectations for LR and 666 (both high-budgeted series with a ton of promotion behind them) are so low that they can’t fail?

    They HAVE failed, and ABC may simply have to let them go on a while, but they are failures. Period.

    Other than OUAT (and maybe Revenge), ABC has failed to create a single successful scripted drama since the period they came out with Desperate Housewives, Lost, and Greys Anatomy within a relatively short time.

    And OUAT will never approach the success of those shows.

    ““Both are getting canned, but luckily for ABC, neither is a Pan Am-type disaster (yet).”

    Unlike both Last Resort and 666, Pan Am didn’t dip below 1.8 until its 7th episode. Its average for its first 4 episodes was 2.35.”

    Correct you are, both LR and 666 are doing slightly worse than Pan Am did, but better than Charlie’s Angels. That’s why I predicted they’d run 13 +/- a few episodes in last week’s prediction post.

  • Patrick Gillease

    I agree. “Pan Am” was far more entertaining and at least watchable at 10pm Sundays. Cancel “666″ pronto, ABC, and either move “Nashville” or “Last Resort” there before killing those, too. Glad “Once Upon a Time” and “Revenge” didn’t drop.

    Pardon me, but wasn’t there a new Mentalist on last night?

  • THE OLD MAN

    It’s official 60 Min beats OUAT @ 8:00, TAR strong 2nd to Revenge & 666PA loses to TGW (that had to hurt) GO CBS!

    On NBC the Steelers crushed NLCS Game 6 even more than they crushed the Bengals
    Go Steelers!

    @WN
    So what is it with CBS? Is it their normal practice to kick around a perfectly good show like The Mentalist, destroying its ratings so no one else will want to buy it?

    It’s complete nonsense that football doubleheaders are destroying The Mentalist’s ratings.

    On nights without a doubleheader, the ratings typically return to normal (only one data point this year, but plenty for CSI:Miami).

    Also, only five or six episodes will air at the 10:30-11:00pm start time all season anyways.

  • Mi

    OUAT and Revenge did great yesterday.
    60 Minutes only beat OUAT because of its lead-in.

    I wish 666 and Last Resort were doing better..

  • Jared

    666 was the new show I was looking forward to the most but after watching the pilot and some of the 2nd episode I just couldn’t get into it. Its ashame because I don’t think ABC knows what type of show to make it. Its not scary enough..and there’s not enough drama to keep me interested which leaves it just being bland.

  • Carrie

    I like 666 as I liked GCB but I no longer want to invest in new shows because they disappear so quickly. My least favorite new show is Elementary and yet it is succeeding. Oh America…

  • Rod

    Yay! Good Wife did ok.

  • OMG

    I think I heard something about ABC selling Monday Night football to ESPN. Is ABC doing better selling it than keeping it?

    I guess it is all in perspectives. For example, NBC might have secured rights to Olympics but the rights may be so expensive that the network might earn more profits with horrible ratings than with stellar ratings with Olympics?

  • LT

    @OMG

    I think ABC and ESPN are business partners.

  • Ultima

    @LT
    I think ABC and ESPN are business partners.

    ABC and ESPN are both subsidiares of Disney.

  • Bad Wolf

    I wonder if The Good Wife not competing against Revenge has anything to do with its uptick ?

    For those angry Mentalist fans, ask Without A Trace fans. The show also aired in this timeslot in its 5th season (2006/2007) and also had a few low-rated episodes because of the late starts.
    While I’m sure starting at almost 11 p.m. is no good for the Mentalist’s ratings, don’t forget that the show has been steadily declining during its 3 years on Thursdays and that its Sunday premiere already set a then series low. And don’t blame The Good Wife too much too : if I really want to watch a show, I absolutely don’t care about what airs before or after (and sorry to say it, but while some people may like both The Good Wife and The Mentalist, I don’t think they are aimed at the same public as The Good Wife is way more challenging and thought provoking than The Mentalist).

    And on a completely unrelated note : I’m currently watching Profiler and can’t believe how good this little show was. I wish :
    1) that the Criminal Minds writers watched it too to learn how to write naturally (opposed to artificially) likeable characters
    2) that the Mentalist writers watched it too to learn how to write a good serial killer story, as Jack-of-All-Trades is much more interesting, fascinating, dangerous and scary than poor Red John, who only does openers, finales and one or two lost episodes a season.

  • DW

    cbs should just get rid of that nfl overun and that 8.2 rating and replace it with the mentalist that does a whopping 1.5 because its sooo good.

  • Brian

    I hope ABC regrets the cancellation of Brothers & Sisters now that they can’t get any show to do as well in that time slot..666 needs to go, as it can’t even reach Pan Am’s numbers…. Pathetic! Over at CBS the Idiots are Killing one of their top shows with this Sunday Night switch… Mentalist is being dragged down fast!
