CBS GIVES FULL SEASON ORDERS TO TELEVISION'S #1 AND #2

NEW SERIES — “VEGAS” AND “Elementary

Freshman Dramas Win Their Time Periods in Viewers and Key Demographics

CBS has given full season “back nine” orders to television's top two freshman series — VEGAS and Elementary.

“VEGAS and Elementary have opened strong, delivering big audiences and winning performances in important time periods,” said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment.  “Each of the shows has rich characters, big stars and a unique visual style that have stood out in the crowd, helping make two of our strongest nights even stronger.”

VEGAS, the #1 new series of the season and ranked sixth overall, wins its Tuesday (10:00-11:00 PM) time period in viewers and key demographics, averaging 14.94 million viewers, 2.7/08 in adults 18-49 and 3.8/09 in adults 25-54.  VEGAS has improved the year-ago time period by +8% in viewers.

Elementary, the #2 new series of the season and ranked ninth overall, also wins its Thursday (10:00-11:00 PM) time period in the key ratings measures, averaging 14.30 million viewers, 3.5/10 in adults 18-49 and 4.6/11 in adults 25-54. Compared to the time period last year, Elementary is up +17% in adults 18-49 and +10% in adults 25-54.

VEGAS stars Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jason O'Mara, Taylor Handley and Sarah Jones.  Greg Walker, Nicholas Pileggi, Cathy Konrad, Arthur Sarkissian and James Mangold are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

ELEMENTARY stars Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu, Aidan Quinn and Jon Michael Hill.  Rob Doherty, Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

Vegas? Man this is a depressing season.

  • Kevin

HOORAY for Elementary. Really want to see PARTNERS get canceled soon.

  • CC

    Both great shows!

  • r0ckmypants

In what way are these the #1 and #2 new shows of the season? Doesn’t Revolution beat both of them in all respects?

I also don’t remember Vegas ever hitting a 2.7, let alone averaging that. Where are these numbers coming from?

  • rob60990

    the meaningless total viewers.

  • Oliver

CBS will be using total viewers. CBS always wins in total viewers, because their median age is 94.5 and old people have their TV dial stuck on “only CBS”.

  • Mark

I’m 36 and watch a number of cbs shows thank you!

  • r0ckmypants

Ok, gotcha, I thought Revolution had more total viewers than it does… those 18-49 demo numbers still seem screwy though.

  • djrox

Is it jealousy or cynicism to think you have to bash a full season order?

  • Michael

Looks like Vegas won’t be getting cancelled…. for now…

  • darius

When the hell did Elementary reach 3.5?It did 3.1, 2.5 and 2.3!Well when your show is produced by cbs studios, garbage ratings mean zero!

    $rob:

I know. It seems like the bar for success has really been lowered. I don’t see it really growing much, either, as it is fairly serialized.

  • John A

A bit early i would think CBS would wait a week for this.

    Viewers.

Where are these numbers coming from?

Nielsen (and the networks) use “most current” ratings to determine season averages – it’s Live+7 when available (Live+SD for more recent episodes), but also includes in timeslot repeat airings.

  • darius

They have an unique visual style??????!No wonder cbs hasn t won the 18.49 segment even in the years with the superbowl with a people like n tassler in charge!

  • Ultima

    @John A

Based on what? If you’re going to make a silly guess, at least provide a reason.

For example, I think this is good timing beacuse the press release is out prior to Elementary airing during sweeps on Thursday as well as before Vegas airs this week.

  • SJ

    No surprise for either.

My guess is Golden Boy either replaces CSI: NY, which only has an 18-episode order for this season, or Undercover Boss (no idea how many episodes, but likely 13 or just above that). Either way, it’s debuting on a Friday and it’s as good as dead.

  • John A

@ULTIMA Calm down. Well neither show is doing that well in the demo is all. Maybe 1 more week to see if both shows have stabiliased is all im saying.

  • SherLOCKED

Hey…as long as I have Elementary for a good while to come I’ll be good!

    Vegas…ehh.

  • MJDB

Great news for Elementary, I don’t really usually like this genre, but I’m really enjoyinh this show. I watched the pilot of Vegas, and I though it was dull and boring, shutting it off a half hour into it.
