FOX is announcing the winter season and series premiere dates for new and returning series, including the returns of American Idol and Touch, and the debut of new thriller THE FOLLOWING.

Featuring host Ryan Seacrest and new judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, along with returning judge Randy Jackson, the 12th season of American Idol begins with the exciting two-night premiere Wednesday, Jan. 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Thursday, Jan. 17 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

THE FOLLOWING, a psychological thriller created by Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” “Scream” franchise) and starring Golden Globe Award-winning actor Kevin Bacon (“X-Men: The Last Stand,” “Frost/Nixon”) and James Purefoy (“Rome”), launches Monday, Jan. 21 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). The intense, spellbinding drama follows RYAN HARDY (Bacon), an ex-FBI agent called out of retirement to track down JOE CARROLL (Purefoy), a devious and diabolical serial killer, and the mastermind behind an ever-growing web of killers.

Season Two of Touch, starring Emmy Award winner Kiefer Sutherland (“24”), kicks into gear Friday, Feb. 1 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). As the action shifts dramatically from New York to Los Angeles, single father MARTIN BOHM (Sutherland) and his gifted son, JAKE (David Mazouz), find themselves at the center of a global conspiracy involving a mother in search of her missing teenage daughter, a mathematical genius and a religious zealot assassinating others with abilities like Jake’s. Joining the cast this season are Maria Bello (“ER”), Lukas Haas (“24”), Said Taghmaoui (“G.I. Joe: The Rise of The Cobra”) and newcomer Saxon Sharbino.

So they are going through with no touch on mondays. sooo strange

  • Glue

Yes Can’t wait for the Following :D

  • Greg

I think they should premiere Touch on Thursday to give it an extra boost and then the show could go to Fridays.

Does anybody know when Fringe is endings? Is the February 1st date official?

  • DamC

I assumed FOX would have used a NFL lead-in to premiere The Following like they used to do with 24. Could have been a great promotional platform. Dammit FOX.

  • don juan

i agree, glue. the following looks awesome

  • Oliver

…so are Fox going to keep airing The Mob Doctor in its timeslot? That sh*t cray.

  • madbengalsfan85

I am interested in The Following…which will finally give me a reason to stick around after Bones

  • johncarter

The Following is the only network show im interested in

  • rob60990

The Following is going to have to self-start but the show has enough buzz that it should be able to premiere decently.

  • THE OLD MAN

Totally agree with “The Following” & “Touch” @ 9-10, AI was a no-brainer.

    Like the strategy here.

  • Sid

The Following will be the first new FOX drama I sample since Lone Star.

I’m a huge fan of Kevin Williamson and his work so I have good feelings about his new series.

  • Cyrax86

So weird they are announcing the midseason schedule this early (yes I know one comedy is missing but still).

  • Mon

Count me in on who’s excited about The Following! James Purefoy was excellent on Rome.

  • Dan

The Following on Mondays and Touch on Fridays was way too predictable, my schedule with Touch paired with Bones would have been better and The Following airing post Idol would give it more sampling.

  • GARebelman

Are they really going to keep the Mob Doctor around this long? Who would have expected this? Everybody said Kitchen Nightmares or Touch would take its place now they have their own time slots elsewhere.

  • were123

So Touch will replace Fringe, but could it live as long? I guess that depends on how much FOX advertise the show and if fans can be as loyal as Fringe’s fans

  • DW

i take it fox has nothing in the can for 10 weeks so lets go with mob doctor?. im still going with mob doctor being dropped next week.

  • j

Yeah, I thought Following would get a post-Idol slot premiere. Cancelled.

  • Dan

@Cyrax- They probably announced it right now because Its Foreshadowing that Mob Doctor wont be on the schedule and maybe Fox wants to set a place for their new shows, also unlike previous years, the changes are very minimal. Bones, FOX’s Sunday and Tuesday comedies and Kitchen Nightmares are expected to stay in their slots until May, with the exception of The Goodwin Games replacing Ben & Kate by March.

  • Dan

Touch will be cancelled in May after it gets Fringe like numbers and The Following will likely get renewed to save face.
