'The Mob Doctor's' Timeslot Taken By 'The Following' In January-- Does That Mean It's Finally Canceled? (Poll)

As you may have noticed, The Mob Doctor's timeslot is currently occupied by The Following in FOX's winter premiere announcement. So does that mean that the show has been canceled? The release doesn't say it outright, but considering The Mob Doctor has been on death watch for quite some time, could this be the announcement we've all been waiting for? Or is The Mob Doctor determined to stay on life support, despite its flagging vital signs? Cast your vote and tell us why in the comments!

    It should be considered a mercy killing, but that may not stop Fox from continuing to air it.

    Mob Doctor may still survive…the amount of coverage it gets here and on other websites might just encourage others to give it a try.

    What is the lowest rated primetime Fox show (after five episodes) to ever get a second season?

    By the way, I watched yesterday a Body of Proof which all but plugged Desperate Housewives! Perhaps this is what Fox needs – to give Mob Doctor plugs in its other shows. (Eg Simon C says you sing like a Mob Doctor or perhaps somethong more subtle) :-)

    Off topic to Bill, regarding NBC*s decision to air Mockingbird Lane*s pilot. Is it absoluty canceled regardless of blockbuster ratings this Friday ( don*t see it rating very high numbers ) ??? I see NBC really hyping it and the stars on talk shows.

    “It’s very convenient to say a show would be cancelled if after their original season order of 13 was not pick upped – that’s common sense ! But that’s not what you said ! – you and others have been saying that it would be cancelled after 2 then 3 then 4 episodes and it wasn’t ! There’s a big difference don’t you think ? – bill – it’s all on record what was said ! just admit it – it’s ok – also I wonder if who ever named a person merrange knew basic grammar ?”

    Are you referring to each week in my predictions where I write: “Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts the network’s decision on renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2012-13 season in May, 2013″

    Or are you just babbling?

    On the internet it’s hard to tell if you’re joking, or have just forgotten to take your medicine today.

    No experience with anything like this in the 5 years we’ve run the site, but I don’t imagine there’s much hope for it.

    Fox will continue to air all the episodes ordered but not give it a back 9 pickup. Its that simple. Fox NEVER believed in this show from the very beginning when it’s really not a bad show. I don’t get all the hate.

    RRROOOAARRR! The Cancelation Bear is STILL chomping at the bits to eat this one up, AND Im not talking about Jordana’s Spiros, if you get my drift! And you BETTER get it, cause Im THE Cancellation Bear, and Im coming to get YOU next!

    just because they put out the November schedule doesn’t mean they cant tweak it. just like they did this past Sunday with game 6 of the playoffs.

  • Jaka

    Maybe they’re saving it for friday nights after the final episode of Fringe.

    I don’t think that this makes it any deader than it was already…even if it had done significantly better ratings-wise, it probably wouldn’t have gotten the back nine (since that slot always belonged to The Following) and would have, like many shows, had a short first season.

    (One notes that the first four episodes showed up as free content for some video game console networks as of yesterday; not sure what that’s about but it’s not something that I can recall happening to doom doom doomed shows in earlier years.)

    @ccemerson

    I think Mockingbird Lane would have to premiere HUGE for NBC to even consider talks of a series pickup for 2013. I’ve been looking forward to this pilot since I first heard about. That being said if it only premieres modestly in the 1.0-1.6 range I would say there’s probably no hope for a pickup. Bryan Fuller did say a decision either way would be by the end of December.

    I believe Fox is just putting on a brave face here. This could yet end up pulled off the schedule early, like I Hate My Teenage Daughter. Fox was going to air all those episodes too, if memory serves. ;)

    I would not be surprised if it gats a back ordder+renewal for next TV season!

    It’s done

    Obviously Mob Doctor will get the axe by January, but if it drops below the 0.9 it drew last week, it’ll get pulled before then and replaced with X Factor recaps and Glee reruns until Jan.

  • River

    They’ll wait until May to announce Mob is not coming back.

    Mockingbird looks awful.

  • CrimTV

    Yes it has been said that NBC will make a decision on Mockingbird Lane based on it’s October 26 ratings.

    @Silvit

    The only reason The Mob Doctor gets good DVR % gains (if it even does, i’m not sure), is because it’s latest 0.9 rating, if it gained 0.45 in the DVR, that would be a high 50% because of the small size of it’s initial rating!

    To be fair to jcc, I too consider “canceled” to be a series that is removed from the schedule before all of the ordered episodes are shown. On the other hand, “not renewed” is a series that is ordered to series, the full episode order is shown, but the show is not picked up for any additional episodes.

    If Mob Doctor manages to complete filming of all 13 episodes, and all 13 are shown, I’d consider that “not renewed” rather than “canceled.” Perhaps I’m arguing in semantics, but that’s a language I’m fluent in. ;) I can understand if you group both categories together under “canceled” though, even though I disagree.

    Fox was still advertising Mob Doctor during baseball and I think football. Why? Who knows. This is a channel that kept Fringe all those seasons.
