i love supernatural. but last nights episode sucked. the whole time i watched i just kept think where the h*** are sam&dean. i know what there were trying to do with that episode, the characters weren’t interesting enough for it to work. i think the whole purpose of that episode was to give the regular actor a small break.

Here’s a confession: I actually would’ve preferred it if they’d done this whole season in purgatory Walking Dead style. Or at least half of it was that way and half was the present day story. Those scenes are fascinating and Dean and Benny look so badass all covered in muck and blood. I’m curious to find out what Cas did once he joined them. The CHCH promo has a quick spoiler that is quite interesting.

Happy for The Neighbors :) for its slow but steady growth in overall viewership!!

    “@ Bill
I don’t agree. I think Hawaii Five-0 will move to Sunday at 9/8c to replace The Good Wife.”

“On Friday i well see a new comedy at 8, Rules of Engagement at 8:30, the final season of CSI: NY at 9 and Blue Bloods at 10. After all CSI: NY is not doing so bad for a nine-years-old show on Friday and a new comedy could hit a 2.0 and thank to that CBS could have a “good” monday night without low rated comedies.”

We don’t disagree, Hawaii Five-0 to Sunday wouldn’t surprise me either.

CSI:NY & Blue Bloods in those same timeslots wouldn’t surprise me, but I seriously doubt CBS puts comedies on Friday. They’ve got comedies on two nights already.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them go three old scripted shows, or two scripted and one reality, or they might try yet again to debut a rookie drama.

@Bee I watched CSI last night. Been a fan over the years although I do not watch it regularly since Grissom left.

Another great episode of Arrow last night and Chicago Fire was good as well!

I still love to watch Law and Order SVU. Last night showing Munch and Olivia old clips reminded me how long this show has been on the air. It is still good quality TV.

    @ Bobby

Welcome! Adjusted up/down is how the final ratings of a show compares to the preliminaries (overnights).

The finals are the numbers that count & go into the record “books.”

  • JR

Nice bounce back for SVU- is it a given that NBC will give it a 15th season, even with declining numbers?

    @ Bobby

Heyo everybody. I’m kinda new here and I was just wondering a few things….like I know about the 18-49 demo and the ratings system but what does it mean when a show is ‘adjusted up’ or ‘adjusted down’?

It’s very simple. The morning reports are “preliminary” and usually are just like a quick count for the meter markets. As such, the report may contain errors such as “actual” start and end times and which shows “actually” did air. The afternoon reports are the “scrubbed” numbers in which Nielsen accounts for reporting errors. The adjustments you see are just Nielsen accounting for the errors in the initial reports.

As to the up a tenth or down a tenth, it is a matter of opinion how valuable the adjustment really is. Since most of the data available to the press is rounded to the nearest tenth, a mere change of a couple of hundredths could cause a show to be adjusted up or down a tenth. For example,

if the preliminary shows a show did a 3.0, it could well be the show did a 3.049. When you round it up to the nearest tenth, it would be a 3.0. Now the afternoon report comes in and it finds the show actually did a 3.05, if you round it up you get 3.1. The adjustment appears to be of a tenth, but it was actually of .001.

I wouldn’t dismiss the adjustments per se, but I myself only pay attention when those adjustments are of 2/10 or greater.

If you really want to get in to detail, there are approx. 25,000 Nielsen household in the country which represent 114,200,000 US households. Each household rating point is accounted by 250 of those households (each tenth is 25 and a hundredth is 2.5).

What baseball needs is to develop new stars and teams, they kind of need a rebuilding stage like the NBA had in the mid 2000s and NHL after the lockout. If the Chicago Cubs ever get in there that would be huge for the league, I think that’s got a potential to reach 40-60 million viewers especially if the series goes deep.

NBC has some promise once Whitney returns I think Whit is going to have a huge season premiere maybe similar to the January premiere if they promote it good. Whit should help out GWK.

NBC might have something special on their hands with Chicago Fire, with this show just getting started it can be at a pretty big area ratings wise in the future.

    @ Bill
    Thanks ! I think you’re right.
I’m still hoping for CSI: NY renewal. After all if it made more money than CSI: Miami it must make more money than The Good Wife this season. On the other hand i’m still convince Criminal Minds should move to another timeslot maybe on Tuesday at 10/9c and be replaced by NCIS: Los Angeles on Wednesday. NCIS at 8 and Criminal Minds at 10 will be the perfect night to premiere a rookie show between them :)

Why should everything in Supernatural final boil down to relationships? In the beginning it used to be Sam and Dean relationship and the mytharc along with a few secondary characters here and there. Sam and Dean relationship was the most noble of them all and I would like see that on screen on any given day, as long as it is realistic and well-written. My next preference on the show would be a good myth arc, not how the brothers individually bond with their respective friends. I wish writers work on myth arc more than exploring relationships(this includes Sam and Dean relationship too, unless they have a very good arc). For instance, can’t they write a better story for purgatory or can’t they make a fascinating place where physics goes insane? I am sure, there is nothing solid that has happened in the purgatory. The only main event was Dean escaping and that requires hardly 20 – 30 minutes.

I am sick of all these permutations and combinations of relations on the show. How Dean bonds with X, how Dean bonds with Y and how Sam bonds with Z, how Dean bonds with Z, how Sam bonds with X and even worse how X bonds with Y. This is what is Supernatural to me these days especially since the last few episodes of season 7. And this season, I feel they have only increased in number, to make the matters worse.

    @Tessa

College kids were just “mini-guest stars” in most MoTW episodes, if at all they were present. Story never revolved around them much nor their life is really explored much. What makes this episode special from “Heart” is that the guys have actually closed the case themselves without a single contact with Sam and Dean, but taking a little help from them. Yeah, you are right. I didn’t watch those movies you mentioned. In fact this was the first time I heard of them.

I agree with you re purgatory. They must have actually made the full season or at least half the season in purgatory. Where there would be a lot of a## kicking and fascinating ways to kill gruesome and ruthless monsters. I think they have missed a very beautiful chance by confining purgatory to flash backs and making it look like nothing but a dense forest. They should have designed purgatory in a better way, most importantly. I really doubt besides Benny, if there is much link between purgatory and what happening on the earth.

Happy Endings did much better in the post-Modern Family slot than Suburgatory is. Maybe ABC should consider moving it back there…

  • Nick

Why are the comments all in italics?

  • thesnowleopard

Ouch for SPN, though it’s still a good number for the CW and the audience remained high. I bet the pre-buzz for the episode hurt. Regardless, the episode itself sucked out loud. I hope they never bring that girl back. She was the worst of the three.

Nice to see Arrow staying above a 1.0, at least for a while.

  • Paul

SVU ratings have been the same for years – low – yet it’s always renewed.
NBC just didn’t have much before The Voice!!

  • Nick

    @Joe

“Happy Endings did much better in the post-Modern Family slot than Suburgatory is. Maybe ABC should consider moving it back there…”

    Suburgatory 2 aired eps: 2.8,2.7
Happy Endings first 2 eps aired last year: 3.1, 2.8

It’s wasn’t “much better”. Just a little bit.
Consider the fact that Modern Family, the lead-in, is down a full ratings point and ABC ratings as a whole are down 12% season-to-season.
If Modern Family had not been down sharply, HE would be at ~2.5. With that, HE would be at ~2.2. So, no, it would not do better, it would much more likely do worse. Did you not see its Tuesday ratings?

  • Nick

    I’m gonna try an experiment

  • Nick

Didn’t work. The comments are broken people!

eridapo didn’t close the italics but the posts on the next page shouldn’t do that.
