"Elementary" Holds Against World Series Competition

PERSON OF INTEREST grew week-to-week in adults 18-49, matching its season high and leading "Grey's Anatomy" for the first time this season, while THE BIG BANG THEORY was Thursday's #1 program in viewers and demos, according to Nielsen preliminary live plus same day ratings for Oct. 25.

PERSON OF INTEREST was #1 in households (8.6/13), viewers (13.97m), adults 25-54 (4.2/10) and adults 18-49 (3.0/08).  PERSON OF INTEREST leads "Grey's Anatomy" in preliminary nationals for the first time this season in both adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 and posted its largest margin of victory in viewers since April 5, 2012.  Compared to last week, PERSON OF INTEREST was up +8% in adults 25-54 (from 3.9/09), +7% in adults 18-49 (from 2.8/07) and added +40,000 viewers (from 13.93m).

THE BIG BANG THEORY swept its time period, finishing first in households (9.2/15), viewers (15.42m), adults 25-54 (6.2/17), adults 18-49 (4.8/15) and adults 18-34 (3.5/12).  THE BIG BANG THEORY was the night's #1 program in households, viewers, adults 25-54, adults 18-49 and adults 18-34.   Compared to last week, THE BIG BANG THEORY was up +9% in adults 18-34 (from 3.2/11) and even in adults 18-49.

At 10:00 PM, ELEMENTARY (6.7/11, 10.16m), opposite the World Series, was on par with last week's deliveries averaging 2.2/06 in adults 18-49 and 3.0/07 in adults 25-54.

TWO AND A HALF MEN, coming off season highs last week, was first in households (8.0/12), viewers (12.90m), adults 25-54 (5.1/11) and adults 18-49 (3.7/11) and continues to out deliver the year ago time period by double digit percentages.

For the night, CBS was first in households (8.0/13), viewers (12.76m), adults 25-54 (4.3/10) and adults 18-49 (3.1/09).   If these ratings/time period rankings hold, CBS won the first night of the November sweep in these measures for the first time since 2008.

Updated Thursday ratings will be available later.

Except that Grey’s will most likely be adjusted up, like it does every week.

I hope it won’t happen. Actually, the drop for Grey’s Anatomy ratings has been so bad for the past 3 weeks that I hope it gets adjusted up. It’s not like POI won’t beat it in the future.

    POI fans, you guys rock.

“Person of Interest” and “Elementary” were really good last night.

“Person of Interest” was easily one of the best of the series, and definitely the best this season (so far). Interesting storyline, excellent acting, good dialogue, some good humor, professionally handled gunfights and fistfights. No surprise why it’s grown so much vs. last year.

“Elementary” is starting to grow on me, but I’m trying to stay detached in case of cancellation (which seems fairly likely). The episode itself was very good. The acting was crisp and the storyline was good (not that it hadn’t been done before, but most crime shows repeat a storyline or two from another show). My only problem is that, after Holmes was kidnapped, the rest seemed like a mess; like they didn’t know what to do so they figured a text message could save the day. Felt rushed.
    Still good, though.
