How Will 'The Walking Dead' Rate Now That AMC Is Back On Dish and Everybody Knows It? (Poll)

Update: the episode drew a 5.4 adults 18-49 rating, up 6% from the previous week and 10.509 million viewers.

Even without Dish, the season three premiere of The Walking Dead was no zombie when it came to the ratings, scoring a series high 5.8 adults 18-49 rating. Last week AMC was back for Dish Network subscribers, but perhaps not in time for all of them to know it.  Even though Dish was back,  the second episode was down 12% to a 5.1 adults 18-49 rating. But considering how common it is for shows to drop 15%-20% from their season premieres, the 12% still seems pretty good.

But last season the drop off between the season premiere and the second episode was down only five percent (a 3.6 A18-49 rating, compared to a 3.8 for the premiere), though the absolute ratings are much bigger this season. Last year the "big" drop  was for the third episode of the season which fell to a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating, down 18% from the season premiere and 14% from the previous week's episode.

What happens tonight?

I think this season will average around mid-5s while its lowest maybe around 4.6-5.0.

It’s pretty tough predicting this week’s ratings. With the hurricane and the introduction of a major character, we won’t know for sure.

Give it a couple weeks for us Dish folks to realize it’s back on then new record. On an unrelated note ROBERT, may you answered this already but I just saw on hulu when I tried to watch Kitchen Nightmares, I now am supposed to log in w/my TV provider. Otherwise I have to wait for 8 days. Whats up with that? Are you aware of any other shows doing this?
    Thanks in advance.

Loads of factors in this one, the introduction of the Governor and the HIGHLY anticipated return of the guy you love to hate….. MERLE! So it would not shock me if it at least goes up a notch, maybe not a series high but a rise at least.

Also, why haven’t AMC renewed this already?! :P

I’m not ROBERT, but you have to wait 8 days to watch any Fox shows online unless you’re a DirectTV customer (It might be Dish, I’m not sure).

    I predict a 4.9 ( = 5.1 + DISH people – Sandy – typical 3rd episdoe drop)

  • TV-Tastic

I gotta ask: who cares? They have a lousy 14 million subscribers. How much is that really impacting TWD’s numbers in actual viewers?

  • Gillian

I predict a drop in the ratings the same as last season. Possibly a higher drop because of taking virtually the entire cast, especially the leads, out of only the 3rd ep for a limited episode series. Bad move – most viewers don’t read the comic and want to see the regular actors, along with any new additions. Lots of viewers probably lost interest 1/2 way through, would have been better to introduce the new storyline combined with the current one all in the same ep. The return of Merle was a huge letdown, it’s been hyped for over a year and he returned with a wimper and not a bang – BAD writing.

Forgot to add that the show HAS already been renewed for a 4th season, to answer Simon’s question, just google it.

    @Gillian
‘Forgot to add that the show HAS already been renewed for a 4th season, to answer Simon’s question, just google it.’

It is planned, but not confirmed by AMC themselves
